Resignation

I resign as administrator and editor of the English Wikipedia. After 18 years, it has become clear to me that there are significant disagreements between where this site is going and where I believe it needs to go. Considering that I need to be spending less time on Wikipedia due to a career and personal life, it seems better to part ways and move on. Got it, and I've read it all. Interesting stuff, and I can see the reasons for the fork. Good luck with that project! I've long thought that more specialized information would lead to a profusion of other wikis. While this has mostly happened with pop-culture topics over at Fandom (ex-Wikia), it's nice to see it start happening for the nitty-gritty details of less trivial topics. Hopefully some of your work over there can still translate into "encyclopedically compressed" improvements over here, too.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  05:29, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Splitting off

Interesting to read about the reasons a number of road editors split from Wikipedia. A number of the most prolific medical editors have also split off to MDWiki. Part of our reason for splitting had to do with EN Wikipedia declining to permit discussions around the costs of medications unless heavily covered in the popular press, ie expensive in the United States plus the unpleasantness of many interactions here. Wondering if you have any use for NC licensed images? We also host NC Commons and are happy to see others use it. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 01:58, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, this is something that we can keep in mind for the future. While AARoads is not run for profit, and there are as of now no ads on the wiki itself, I know that the main AARoads site does run ads to cover costs and I am not sure if that would count as NC. --Rschen7754 05:43, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
