I think it's the first ever. If there's a prior game where Zelda is the protagonist write it in the lede.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom[a] is an upcoming action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch.[1] It is the first original 2D Zelda title since Tri Force Heroes in 2015, the first new single player 2D Zelda title since A Link Between Worlds in 2013, and the first mainline Zelda title where Princess Zelda is the protagonist instead of Link.

Plot

While rescuing Zelda from Ganon, Link disappears after being sucked into a mysterious rift, with similar rifts appearing throughout Hyrule and causing others to disappear. With help from the mysterious fairy Tri, who gives her the Tri Rod, Zelda sets out to save Link and Hyrule.[1][2]

Gameplay

In contrast to previous mainline Zelda games, players will play as Princess Zelda, who can use the power of the magical Tri Rod to create and duplicate objects known as "echoes", which are imitations of objects and monsters.[1][2]

Development

The game's art style is similar to that of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019).[1]
