Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s is an upcoming installment in the popular Guitar Hero music video game series. It is currently set for release in North America during Summer 2007.
Rather than a full sequel in the Guitar Hero series, Encore: Rocks the 80s will be an incremental title featuring music from the 1980s. A separate title, Guitar Hero III, will be developed by Activision's Neversoft division as the next major installment in the series.[1] As such, Rocks the 80s will be the third and final Guitar Hero game to be developed by Harmonix.
Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s was initially announced by EGM in January, 2007[2]. Orange Lounge Radio claimed that Rocks the 80s will be out in June 2007 based on an Activision announcement[3], though no other source has cited this announcement. However in early May 2007, video game vendors, including EBGames[4], Amazon.com[5] and GameFly[6] have posted this game as being available in early to mid-July 2007 with a suggested price of USD $39.99[7].
Activision revealed the first details of the game, and the official name on May 10, 2007[8].
