I still disagree, it’s just a different format, you can end up with the same Sims using the internal Create-A-Sim. The sliders have just been split into varying levels of detail, plus you can edit the lower lip in CAS. [[User:Simsarmy1|Simsarmy1]] 11:30, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Fansites

I think some more "fansites" should be listed.

  • MATY especially, as this place offers critical bugfixes and mods for TS2.
  • Insimenator which hosts one of the most productive modding communities
  • Sims 2 Workshop another productive modding community

Thoughts? -- Jordi· 08:22, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. They add nothing to the article, and we already have the 2 biggest fansites listed, as well as a list to a site which lists pretty much every other fansite. Adding additional sites does not benefit the article in anyway.--Crossmr 14:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Neither do the two listed at the moment. By your logic we should list none. Your resource site (dmoz) does not list more than 20 such fansites by the way, with none of the trhee above even present. -- Jordi· 15:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I'm aware the official site already has a directory for fan sites. --Mig (Talk) 16:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The number of fansites should be limited to one or two per WP:EL. (Though EL's text has changed recently.) If this becomes an issue, then all fansites should be removed and we should link to a third party link aggregation site like DMOZ. --Kunzite 19:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • How can you say that the two listed sites are the biggest? Why not a list of sites that have custom content downloads for the game? That would actually contribute to the article. The one i think of is TheSimsResource (the biggest costom content archive of all) but there are other good custom content sites out there as well -- CJNE 12:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot

I added a screenshot to the article, and removed the request for same on this talk page. Jerry lavoie 20:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the screenshot. Not only was it in a really bad position its extremely old and out of date. The interface doesn't look anything like that anymore. That must be a pre-release promo shot. Its not really informative.--Crossmr 02:22, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I can fetch one for you in a moment! I've got bodyshop screens too, do we want those? Kuronue 14:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a screenshot of a child becoming a teen, do you still want another? I added a bodyshop shot. Kuronue 14:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just look through the article and if you see someplace that is particularly baren of images, add an appropriate one. The article could really use more. — Frecklefoot | Talk 17:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary Information

Removed unesssecary information - stop editing back please. It is blatantly obvious by 74.104.202.163

^ And some anonymous editor keeps removing the completely relevant illustration with information of the homosexual couple. Sims can BE gay and OR straight. Furthermore, this anonymous editor does not realize that my notes underneath the photo is the FIRST mention of this fact in the entire article. Stop removing it please. ResurgamII 16:06, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
^ and someone keeps adding COMPLETELY irrelevant info. THE SIMS 2 is NOT a game about sexuality, please create another TS2 branch if you really want to split heads over TS2 genes and whatnot. We will keep removing it until you add it in a branch off of this article (like a new page specifically for Sims genes FTW) or have some actual info we can use (What sort of cheats can you use? What are these 'recolors'? etc... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.91.50.77 (talk) 16:31, 14 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

^ Irrelevant info? Obviously in your opinion. Sexuality is a major theme in Sims as it tries to reflect real world daily life. And who's "we"? There's only you doing the removing. ResurgamII 22:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that cheats should be included in the game. There are sites for that, perhaps an external link would be more appropriate. And I second the vote that it is important to list sexuality in the game so that people researching the product know that it mirrors real life. Stop removing stuff that makes sense; there are plenty of other articles that need that, but this is not one of them.

Grilled Cheese Aspiration?

Isn't there an aspiration that's like a glitch or an easteregg in the game called grilled cheese aspiration that comes with Nightlife? Let me know! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.142.130.49 (talk) 00:09, 6 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

That aspiration does come with Nightlife. [1]. It is mentioned in the Nightlife article. --Hintha 04:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Its not a glitch. If you stick you head in the renuyu senso orb in green aspiration you get the grilled cheese aspiration.[reply]
Where's the wikipedia page about the asperation? I can't find it in a search. I saw it before, and ive forgotten the basic asperation rewards ect. --Coolspanner 15:07, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It won't be on WP. Look on GameFAQs or something like that for that info. ALTON .ıl 03:36, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

software

Why does the PC game, The Sims 2, has four CD-Rom? Other games has only one CD. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Coffsneeze (talkcontribs) 18:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Because different games require different amounts of Data.--Crossmr 18:47, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not all have one CD, University has two. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.136.41.218 (talk) 23:23, 3 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Wikibooks Gameguides

I've noticed that the Sims related articles tend to get a level of detail in them that goes well beyond that of an encyclopedia article and delves into the realm of game guides. To that end I've created a page over at wikibooks which takes that kind of material. Wikipedia already includes a template: Template:Wikibooks for handling this. If you find any material which reaches this level, feel free to transwiki it there and leave a note for the person who added it that that is where its gone and that that type of material is more appropriate there. Any article that you transwiki material off of, should have a template added to it. I've already added the template to the Seasons article and I'm going to go through and clean out the excessive detail.--Crossmr 21:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone needs help in setting up these templates on various articles feel free to ask, I think I've gotten the hang of it.--Crossmr 21:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've completed transwikiing University, Nightlife and Seasons. Pets and Open for business still need to be done, as well as the base game. Someone may also want to have a look at the article on Sim (Maxis Sim games) as there has been some concern that that article as well is slipping into minutia and trivia.--Crossmr 23:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose Uni has two disc cos it was the first expansion pack--Wwjd333 19:37, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Similarity between Sims 1 and 2 expansions?

Did anybody else notice that the Sims 2 expansion sets mostly mirror those of the predecessor as far as concepts go? There's a downtown, pets, etc.

Does this deserve a special mention? Other games sometimes tend to incorporate the features added in expansion sets for predecessors in sequels, so I was a bit surprised to see that pets were already added in a The Sims expansion before The Sims 2 Pets was conceived.

Regardless, the article seems to fail to mention that the game mechanics introduced in expansion sets are cumulative in newer releases: one expansion adds a mechanic, the next one includes that mechanic and adds more stuff. This can lead to many "disabled features" if one does not purchase the expansions in order, e.g. a disabled "Downtown" and "Campus" button as well as an non-selectable but fully implemented Pleasure aspiration if only OFB and the base game are installed (which, of course, acts as another incentive to buy earlier expansions: get rid of all those placeholders). — Ashmodai (talk · contribs) 12:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be original research to draw a conclusion like that. Unless you can find a reliable source which is speculating on this. I have heard that theory several times, but only in unreliable places like forums and blogs.--Crossmr 17:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)OFB and University are original.[reply]
Nightlife and Pets are the only remakes of Sims 1 EPs so far. University, Open for Business, and Seasons are all new. 24.254.47.90 20:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article has received input with ideas for improvement. Please read it and attend to the issues.

Also, we have a 2 week semi-protection now, which prevents vandalism similar to the type we have been getting the last couple weeks. ALTON .ıl 23:14, 21 March 2007 (UTC) Yea I did Notice this--Wwjd333 19:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Girls Stuff" Overruns Custom content hosts

Should this be added to the article? girls aged about 14 - 15 always adding custom content that really makes it outnumber male creators stuff. i play the game, im male, but girls are always uploading girly sims, i cant find anything on download pages because of it. should we send a warning out to these girls obsessively uploading elves and silky skintones? --Coolspanner 02:34, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but it's unnecessary OR. ALTON .ıl 00:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should upload some more masculine pics--Wwjd333 19:41, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. OR, more neutral pics. --Coolspanner 11:45, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I? Everyone's entitled to contribute. ALTON .ıl 02:36, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy Section

Now, I am no Sims 2 advocate, but, I feel this section is not needed. It is one claim that was immediatly addressed. It's actually quite funny. I'm just saying we might want to remove it.

I dunno. it was actually a hoax, it was blogged... it was entertaining so, keep it. --Coolspanner 21:34, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit

Have edited in plot, where is says that the game "hints that it is set 20 years after the original sim games" as it doesnt hint, but outright says that Pleasantview is Oldtown twenty five years later. Would it be posiible to have a stub article on each neighbourhood perhaps too — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.105.94 (talk) 14:10, April 11, 2007 (UTC)

What? --Coolspanner 23:59, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, yes I remember it says that.
Do not create articles on each neighborhood; that is unnecessary information. ALTON .ıl 04:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, why is it unnecessary? Its still info that people want to know about. --Coolspanner 02:31, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? Commissioned to write a report about The Sims 2, would you go into detail about its gameplay and cultural references? I should hope your assignment would focus much more on the History and Impact of the game. I'm disappointed I can't add my own conjectures about The Sims 2 plot, but it's basically info that doesn't belong here. Look at The Legend of Zelda for example; compare the Gameplay section to History section size. ALTON .ıl 03:34, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning to all editors

Stop adding game guide material. Stop adding expansion pack info to the prose. Stop adding speculation. The next person to do so will be warned. ALTON .ıl 00:07, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately this is a constant issue. The hundreds upon thousands of fan sites out there just don't seem to be enough to satisfy the need to disseminate trivia about The Sims and its gameplay features. As well, the slightest hint of speculation is enough to spur edits on Wikipedia, EP after EP. I honestly don't think it will ever stop, nor do I have a solution for dealing with it unfortunately. Nothing permanent anyway. We can continue to redirect and have articles deleted, but each time it will happen again.--Crossmr 23:25, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A bit futile isn't it, guys? I doesn't take much effort to revert vandalism anyway. --Coolspanner 11:42, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's my own effort, and it's just as easy to warn every single one. ALTON .ıl 00:57, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What about all the people that edit without looking at the talk page first? They won't see the warning. Pnkrockr 01:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I'm aware it's impossible to catch every person vandalizing Wiki at every moment, but I'll have the justification here when someone decides to RfC me. We've already tried protecting it, and they don't think it's "severe enough" to keep even semi-protected. Sometimes that's not the right criteria to judge whether a page should be or not. ALTON .ıl 04:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

School's Out

This suggestion does not cite an appropriate source: the link does not mention "School's Out" at all, but mentions "Castaway", a Sims 2 Stories game. I have marked as citation needed, and will remove if no appropriate link is provided.

Perman17 12:47, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's clearly nonsense. Sillygostly 02:37, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had a dream this was semi-protected again... ALTON .ıl 05:18, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sporty Leasure Stuff?

Hi, today I noticed someone added a Sporty Leasure Stuff add-on to the Stuff pack list, claiming to be released on 31 November 2007. I deleted this as it had no ref. Is this a real pack, and is a source available? Thanks -- Chris as I am Chris 09:10, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Next EP: Bon voyage

this is what i found [2][3]. Just so we can add it as soon as Maxis make the announcement.

So what do we get for the new type of sim Catgirls? Anubiz 21:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Sims 2 H and M

The Sims H and M is a new expansion although I'm not sure if its a global release. http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=RM03202&title=the_sims_2_handm_stuff&ref=HOMEPAGE I think the main page needs to be updated with information on this.

That's just a stuff pack, and there in Info on it. Anubiz 11:58, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Sims 2 A List

Who added this? Since the next expansion pack, Bon Voyage, has just been announced, and there are no sources listed on the page of the article, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that this is a legitimate release. If no one objects, I'm removing this article. --74.116.236.191 14:40, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that guy who started to preaves toplc. Anubiz 14:50, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remove stuff mentioned here that was added in Expansion Packs

Shouldn't suff mentioned here that was not released in the base game be removed such as young adults, Pleasure and Grilled Cheese Aspirations, etc.? Those things can be in the part that mentions what the EPs are, but not listed in other places. And shouldn't that screenshot of the birthday party be changed as well; it shows pieces from University, and this article is about the base game?

New Page for Various Editions

Someone started a page for The Sims 2 Deluxe, and I'm thinking if it would be a good idea to make a new page for the various editions of The Sims 2 released (we can move the existing Holiday Edition content from the Stuff Packs page while leaving the Happy Holiday Stuff, which is an actual Stuff Pack, intact). This page would be similar to the Stuff Packs page wherein it contains information on the numerous editions released (instead of making a new page for each edition). Anyone agree with me on this? --Funnykidrian 04:09, 12 June 2007 (UTC) Im not sure, if the article on sims 2 deluxe is a long enough page to be considered an article in its own right and/or the stuff packs page gets too long, Ω§|Blacksmith2 05:09, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

I think its time that we fully protect the article from unnessisary info. its probably getting annoying for you guys to remove this crap. --Coolspanner 18:13, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its only ever been protected in the past during the build up to a highly anticipated EP. Its also only protected against vandalism. They fail to recognize how some members of the Sims community treat this article.--Crossmr 01:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Body Shop picture has a debateable comment

"The Sims 2 Bodyshop allows more customization of facial features than the Create-A-Sim feature within the game itself." I don't agree with this, and I already made a beginners mistake with the minor edit thing, so I want to see what you think. Simsarmy1 22:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It does, though; it has about twice as many sliders as CAS. Have you compared the two lately? I can't, for instance, edit the size of the lower lip in CAS, but I can in bodyshop. Kuronue 02:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
