Welcome to Eagle's Archives!

I am messing with my linux distro trying to get my wireless to work, I will not be on for a bit

I respond to all comments here, as it becomes difficult to keep up with the volume otherwise; if I believe immediate notice is necessary, I may copy the response to your talk page.

I am an admin on both the english wikipedia (here) and on the meta wiki.'

Disputes between editors, especially content disputes, belong in formal dispute resolution, not here; if you raise them here, I'm just going to say "I don't get involved" and send you to dispute resolution, so save time and head there now.

I archive obsessively, often several times a day; if you do not see a comment you left here, it has probably been archived, please look in my archives. Users are welcome to bring archived discussions back if they have additional comments.

If you left a comment and didn't get a response from me, ninety-nine times out of one hundred, I was busy and forgot to answer; poke me, and I'll be sure to do it. However, if you left a comment that you expected would elicit an angry response, and instead received no response, then I probably didn't forget, I just didn't respond. I reserve the right to archive personal attacks, incivility, or canvassing separately and immediately. Severe instances may simply be deleted.

Others are encouraged to help out and respond to posts here. Plenty of angry and clueless posts find their way here, and to my email; in the vast majority, I find that the writer has misunderstood some difficult aspect of Wikipedia. Though I may seem to have everything under control, I appreciate having others help out and back me up.

If you came here because I removed a link that you posted onto Wikipedia. Please read and understand this first.

Open proxy blocking

Hey Eagle, since you block most of the open proxies that I come across via CAT:RFU could you please use {{openproxy|host=example-proxy.com}} on the talk pages once you've identified them. Having it clearly spelt out on the talk page that can instantly verify an IP as belonging to an CGI proxy would cut down a lot of frivilous unblocking requests we've been getting from sock-puppeteers thinking they'll get lucky tricking us (e.g. User_talk:66.90.101.240). --  Netsnipe  ►  19:08, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additions to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciudad_Guayana reverted by Shadowbot

I added the founders names and foundation dates of the two town that merged into Ciudad Guayana and added an External Link to a Page with 200 historical photographs of the development of these towns and the resulting city.

These Photos are on a page created by me at http://groups.msn.com/guayanahistorica, and are all given to the public domain. Most of them I took myself, and the rest all have permission from their owners to be exhibited

I believe they contribute to the information that Wikipedia provides

I also corrected the name of the Orinoco river to Caroní river, as San Félix and Pto. Ordaz are located on both sides of the Caroní and both are south of the Orinoco.

The Edit is at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ciudad_Guayana&diff=140474566&oldid=139272132

Anjouli

Hi. You have apparently just blocked 87.101.244.6 permanently. (Well, until 2012, when I'll be long dead!). This IP is in Saudi Arabia and is a common proxy used by almost the entire area I live in - so effectively much of Saudi is now blocked. I'm a long-standing ed with I hope a good rep (check my log) and would appreciate some help. I pretty much have to use 87.101.244.6 (unless I fork over a huge amount of change per minute to use an alternative, which is what I'm doing now.) I'm used to waiting for short term blocks to expire whenever someone in Saudi misbehaves - which is frequently - but 2012 seems a bit harsh! I would have thought that a technical solution was possible where logged-on users could override the IP and be blocked on an individual basis (I can't see anyone else using the IP knowing my password) but perhaps that's not easily programmed. Any suggestions? I'm going to miss WP after all these years. Anjouli 13:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, fixed, sorry. That was not intended. —— Eagle101Need help? 19:15, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AN archive searcher not updated

Currently, there is a lot of material in the WP:AN archives which the Wikipedia AN searcher doesn't seem to know about. Can you please update the database? Od Mishehu 12:53, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sure I'll look into the problem. Someone may have changed how AN is archived >.<, particurally the bot code. —— Eagle101Need help? 20:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page about Mary Manin Morrissey

I wanted it to be known that the statements made about me on the discussion about Mary Manin Morrissey are entirely untrue and slanderous. I have never had any restraining orders against me and I have never stalked anyone in my life. These lies are being perpetrated against me for retaliation for speaking out against the corruption I witnessed firsthand at Living Enrichment Center. [1][2] It is a rule on Wikipedia that if statements of a slanderous nature are made about a living person then they must be removed. I have therefore removed these untrue statements about me. -- Andrew Parodi 10:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you link me to where this is occuring, thank you. —— Eagle101Need help? 20:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SPAM MISTAKE

Dear Sir or Madam,

we think that you have blacklisted our Domain amojoo.com here on wikipedia on request of a user called Tabercil. We may ask you to remove our domain amojoo.com from blacklist filter.

Reason: None of our employees ever contributed anything to wikipedia. A few months ago we instructed several Online-Marketing & SEO-Companies to promote our site online. It might be the case that one of those companies pursued this unacceptable spamming to wikipedia.

Although we have setup an account "amojoo" on wikipedia we simply can not figure out how to input/edit articles and/or editing any filters or similiar stuff which is why we ask you to remove our domain from your blacklist filter.

Thank you very much.

M.J. Perry Managing Director

amojoo LLC

Taking this on face value, assuming good faith, is there any distinction between the company doing this and their subcontractor doing it? I don't think so. If they were dumb enough to engage "several" SEO companies dumb enough to spam us why on earth should we believe they won't do it again (or a different SEO company won't next time)? --BozMo talk 07:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you have a chance

I think meta may be a bit backlogged, however I've added this. If you have a chance when your over there, have a look I'd appreciate it.--Hu12 22:33, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Python

Hi Eagle. Would you be able to write a program for me in pywikipedia? I need a bot that takes a .txt file and uploads it the same page in the bot's user space. However the bot saves everything to the text file (called output.txt). Since I don't want everything to be kept on the page, do you think you could add something that would remove the edits/logs to the page older then "period of time"? If it would be easier, you could program it in C++ . Thanks! ~ Wikihermit 03:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well... I know a little python, but I don't care much to program in it as some of the language constraints drive me crazy. So if you want a bot please tell me your operating system. Thanks. —— Eagle101Need help? 04:25, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Vista. ~ Wikihermit 21:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then I can't help you, as I can't program a windows compatable C++ program, as I use linux. I don't even have a vista box (and I doubt I'll ever get one). Sorry. —— Eagle101Need help? 21:36, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks! ~ Wikihermit 22:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SPAM Blacklist

Not sure of the protocol but can I ask you to make a few editors ecstatically happy by adding this www.sociopathic.net to the SPAM blacklist? It's a self published site of no real merit, anons are constantly re-adding it no matter how often it gets deleted but I think this last attempt to insinuate it on to the page crossed a line [3]. I feel sure that being blacklisted would solve the problem...thanks. --Zeraeph 18:38, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lets try semi-protecting the page first :) —— Eagle101Need help? 00:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hm...did not think of that...many months of "dripping tap" infuriation must have eroded common sense. :o) --Zeraeph 03:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I was looking at your bot and was wondering if you could help me make one. I wasn't sure what kind. But maybe a bot that cleans the sandbox faster than Uncle G's or something? All I want really is to make one and to go from there. Do you mind responding on my talk page? Thanks! SLSB 13:11, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you wonder why I changed the person who wrote this from Flubber5 to SLSB is because Flubber5 completed a WP:CHU to now be SLSB. Thanks SLSB 14:16, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof problems...

Hello Eagle. I'm having some problems with VandalProof, and Daniel referred me to you. VP is not letting me log in even when I'm logged in in IE; it will accept my login and then do nothing when I click on "Verify Authorization", or just not accept my username at all. Thanks, I'd appreciate your help. Cheers, Neranei T/C 01:14, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use vios

I finished the first batch of fair use images in other namespaces. I also noticed when I was fixing the fair use vios, I discovered some where released under the GFDL, you may want to check on that. — Moe ε 23:31, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

283 citation tags

Even if the entire IRC is recruited to "safeguard" 300 citation tags, it won't change the basic fact that Wikipedia was intended for reading rather than for referencing and that 300 citation tags distract the readers and make going through the page next to impossible. --Ghirla-трёп- 18:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not assume IRC equal bad. Secondly I have no objection to the removal of some of the tags. —— Eagle101Need help? 18:33, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I6 and speedy tags

I'm curious what you are up to. You have tagged a bunch of images inappropriately with the I6 speedy criteria that specifically says which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days. None of these images have been tagged, let alone tagged for 7 days. Is this a case of you accidentally using the wrong template? Because cat:csd is filling up with images, when images have their own subcats. Also, I am confused why, if you think they meet the speedy criteria, you haven't just deleted them yourself (making me again think you simply used the wrong tag). Anyway, just curious what's going on. Thanks.-Andrew c [talk] 00:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For I6, which is missing fair use rationale, we have {{subst:nrd}}. I believe the WP:CSD page lists the proper templates to use. If you come across other images, such as orphaned non-free, or improper copyright, etc there are specific tags for those as well. Good luck.-Andrew c [talk] 00:19, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

about the 2 pics

Hi, I am sorry for releasing the pics into the public domain. I uploaded the same picture again but this time I use the license of screenshot of a copyrighed game.

I hope that is okay, hope to get a reply soon! =)
