Jyothika Alias Jothika Sadanah (born October 18, 1978, Mumbai, India) is a South Indian actress who has acted in notable Tamil Movies.

Career

Her first movie was the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna directed by Priyadarshan, opposite Akshaye Khanna. Though the film did not do well at the box office, she was noticed by the Tamil and Telugu industry. She proceeded to act in Kollywood, where she debuted in a guest appearance in Vaali with Ajith and Simran in the lead. Her first Tamil movie as a heroine was Poovellam Kettuppar opposite Surya. A string of successful movies followed, among them Kushi, Dumm Dumm Dumm and Snegithiye. In 2003 she starred in Dhool with Vikram, Kaaka Kaaka with Saravanan Sivakumar and Thirumalai with Vijay, all of which did good business, Kaaka Kaaka in particular being one of the biggest hits of her career. In 2004, she acted in a double role in the critically acclaimed Perazhagan opposite Surya and received the Dinakaran Best Actress Award for the movie. In 2005, she acted in Manmadhan opposite Silambarasan and won accolades for her role. Her most successful movie till date is the Rajinikanth starrer Chandramukhi 2005. Her last films were Gautham Menon's Pachaikili Muthucharam and the critically acclaimed Mozhi, both in 2007. Her roles in these two movies, as a negative character in the former (which she played for the first time) and as a deaf and mute in the latter earned her widespread appreciation. Jyothika was also the brand ambassador for RMKV silk sarees. She appeared in Paragon Slippers ad.

Surya married actress Jyothika on September 11, 2006. They are blessed with a baby girl on August 10, 2007 whose birth star is Punartha.Their daughter was named Diya which means light, Surya and Jyothika also derive their names from light.
