This is a list of deities, legendary creatures, and other beings of unexplained origin that appear in the anime and manga universe of the Dragon Ball metaseries, including the Dragon Ball films. Following some characters bio are external links that focus on that character.

Deities

Annin

Annin is the Guardian of the Furnace of Eight Divinations at the border between Earth and the afterlife. In the FUNimation anime dub, she is given the alias of Tajaro in order to hide the Furnace Keeper's true identity. When Son Goku and Chichi sought to put out the fire of the furnace, he is stopped by Annin. She tells Goku that if he puts out the fire, all the evil spirits will remain on Earth and total darkness will destroy the planet. It also takes roughly 200 years to reignite the furnace. After seeing that Goku had the Bashō Sen (Bansho Fan), she finds a way and helps Goku enter the furnace and fix the hole causing the fire to leak out. She doesn't appear in the manga.

Dende

Dende (デンデ, Dende) is a Namekian who takes the role of the Earth's guardian after Kami fuses with Piccolo. He is first introduced in the Namek Saga when Son Gohan and Kuririn save him from Dodoria.[1] He gets his power unlocked by their elder, giving him the power to heal. He aids the warriors during the fight with Freeza until he is killed by the tyrant. After being revived by Shenlong, he lives on New Namek until Son Goku can teleport there during the Cell Saga to ask a Namekian to become the new God of Earth and revive the Dragon Balls. Dende accepts, and continues to serve as the Guardian throughout the rest of the series.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Tomiko Suzuki. In the FUNimation dub he is voiced by Laura Bailey as a child, and by Justin Cook as an adult.

Kami

Kami (, Kami) known respectfully in Japanese as Kami-sama as a title meaning "God". Kami was the good half of the Namekian that came to be the God of Earth, with his evil half becoming the Piccolo Daimao. In the anime, he competed with Garlic for the position and won. 300 years later, Garlic's son Garlic Jr., bearing a perpetual grudge, attempted twice to fight for the title and lost. He then watched over the planet for centuries to ensure its safety.

Seeing the spawn of his other half Piccolo threatening the planet, he goes to Earth in secret and competes in the Tenka-ichi Budōkai by possessing a human. After advancing to the semifinals he battles Piccolo, trying to trap him in a bottle using the Mafūba. Piccolo is able to overcome it by reversing the attack, trapping Kami in the bottle himself. He then swallows the bottle for safe keeping before losing Kami in his match with Son Goku. During the Artificial Human Saga, Kami agreed to merge and rejoin Piccolo so they would be a match for the Artificial Humans.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Takeshi Aono.

Mr. Popo

Mr. Popo (ミスター・ポポ, Misutā Popo) is an immortal djinn who lives with Kami in Kami's Lookout and is bound there eternally as the gardener and caretaker. He has served every other Kami (God/Guardian) of the Earth since the beginning of time. He was trained by the recent Kami himself and trained Goku for 3 years in order to fight Piccolo.

To some, Mr. Popo is claimed to be a variant of darky iconography, a racist style of caricature known as blackface. [1] In May of 2000, an article written by children's book author Carole Boston Weatherford claimed that Mr. Popo, along with the Pokémon Jynx, were derogatory stereotypes. [2] In 2004, Viz began to downsize Mr. Popo's large lips digitally in the American re-release of the Dragon Ball manga [3].

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Toku Nishio.

Karin

Karin (カリン, Karin) (English dubs: Korin) is a Senbyō ( immortal cat) who has lived at the top of Karin Tower for more than 800 years. The tower is located right underneath Kami's Lookout, which is a few hundred meters[verification needed] higher than Karin's tower and can be reached by Son Goku's nyoi-bō. Karin is a deity just below the rank of Kami, and plays a large role in Dragon Ball when he trains Goku during the Commander Red Saga to defeat Tao Pai Pai. At later points in the series and in Dragon Ball Z, Karin lends his assistance periodically to Goku and the other characters by growing them Senzu, which only grow in a tree in his tower.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Ichirō Nagai and then later by Naoki Tatsuta.

King Yamma

King Yamma (Enma Daiō) (FUNimation dub: King Yemma) is a giant red oni who judges the dead. Residing in the Other World, it is his job to decide whether dead people go to Heaven or Hell. He is based on the Hindu deity Yama. He is first seen when Son Goku is killed. He was until then the only person who has ever run all the way along Serpent Road, but grants Goku permission to attempt this. He is apparently skilled to some degree in fighting, as he claims he bested Raditz when the latter attempted to fight him while passing through his realm. According to Kami, North Kaio is much stronger than he is.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Daisuke Gōri.

Kaio

The Kaio (Kaiō) are upper-level gods of the fictional Dragon Ball universe. The name Kaio is a conjunction of the word for "kai" for 'World' and "o" for 'King'. There are five per galaxy, with one presiding over each of the four quadrants in a galaxy, and the last (the Dai Kaio or Grand Kai) overseeing them all. The Kaio are responsible for the lower-level gods, who rule over individual planets. The Kaio reside in the heavens (Other World in English adaptations).

Dai Kaio

Dai Kaio (FUNimation dub: Grand Kai) is the ruler of the other Kaios in the Northern galaxy, including Son Goku's trainer North Kaio. He's portrayed as an aged hipster, wearing jeans and a denim jacket and constantly listening to rock music on his boom box. His home is the Dai Kaio's Planet. He's stronger than the other Kaios, but although he never admits it, he is not in the same league as Goku. He is reputed to be the greatest fighter in the universe, but he has been out of training for centuries.

Even though he is the teacher of the greatest warriors in the galaxy, Dai Kaio (much like North Kaio) is more of a sweet and a kind grandfatherly figure than a traditional disciplinarian. Paying no heed to respectful-but-cold formality, he lovingly treats his social-inferiors as equals and dotes on them as if they were his own grandchildren. In the Japanese version, he affectionately addresses younger warriors with suffix of "-chan", a term of endearment usually reserved for young children. (e.g., Goku-chan, Paikuhan-chan)

Although he doesn't appear in the manga, a Dai Kaio is mentioned. His characterization in the anime was suggested to the production staff by Akira Toriyama himself.[2]

East Kaio

East Kaio (FUNimation dub: East Kai) The only female Kaio. This Kaio is a woman with pale lime-green skin and orange-blonde hair at the After-Life Budoukai, though she had one participant from her quadrant that passed the preliminaries. Her quadrant is known for having fast fighters, like Globe. She rides around on a hover bike, and is always looking for a good challenger. She's also very hard on all her pupils. An anime-only character.

She is voiced in the original Japanese version by Keiko Yamamoto.

North Kaio

North Kaio (FUNimation dub: King Kai, North Kai) is the Kaio of the quadrant of the galaxy where the planets Earth and Namek reside. In the English manga, he is also known as Kaiô-sama or Lord of the Worlds. Claiming himself to be very humorous; he will only teach his subordinates if they laugh at his non-comedic jokes (really bad puns in the original Japanese).[3] He can only train those who can reach the end of Snakeway. He trained Goku, who succeeded in doing so and taught him very powerful techniques that have been essential to many of his battles: including the Genkai Dama and the Kaio Ken.[4][5] He has a pet monkey named Bubbles.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Jōji Yanami.

South Kaio

South Kaio (FUNimation dub: South Kai) The only other Kaio to appear in the manga, South Kaio is a rival of North Kaio. He claims his pupil, Papoi, would mop the floor with Son Goku. In the anime filler, South Kaio also makes light of North Kaio for being deceased. His quadrant has the reputation of being a peaceful area of space because all the fighters from this quadrant are comparatively weak.

West Kaio

West Kaio (FUNimation dub: West Kai) A tiny monocle-wearing Kaio with purple skin who acts as North Kaio's adversary during the Ano-Yo-Ichi Budōkai filler, usually mocking North Kaio about being a "dead" Kai. His greatest student is Paikuhan, and he always boasts about how much stronger Paikuhan is than any other Kaio's pupils, particularly those of North Kaio, despite Goku defeating Paikuhan in competition and far surpassing him later, to North Kaio's glee. He doesn't appear in the manga by Akira Toriyama.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Bin Shimada.

Kaioshin

Above the Kaio are the Kaioshin (in the English anime dubbed Supreme Kai), who look after the entire universe. Similar to the regular Kaio; there is one for each cluster of four galaxies in the universe and a Dai Kaioshin to preside over them. Or at least that was the established order, until Majin Buu killed or absorbed most of the Kaioshin, with only the East Kaioshin surviving.

Dai Kaioshin

Dai Kaioshin (FUNimation dub: Grand Supreme Kai) God of all Kaiōshin, Dai Kaioshin was a fat, kind being. In the original fight with the Kaiōshin, Buu attempts to absorb the Dai Kaioshin, after starting to lose the fight. This act usually makes Buu's strength increase in proportion to the strength of whomever he abosorbs. However, the Dai Kaioshin is absorbed by Mega Buu, and because Dai Kaioshin was so good, Buu actually became weaker and slightly more susceptible to control. His losing power is due to Kid Buu being a creature of pure evil, and any good distorts his nature and nullifies that power. Dai Kaioshin is never released by Majin Buu like some other absorptions. Being the highest deity mentioned in Dragon Ball, Dai Kaioshin is the God of the Dragon Ball fictional universe. When Elder Kaioshin is released from the Z Sword, he takes over this role instead.

East Kaioshin

East Kaioshin (東の界王神, Higashi no Kaiōshin) (FUNimation dub: Supreme Kai, East Supreme Kai) is the supreme ruler of the Eastern Quadrant of the Universe along with his best friends, and under his superior, Dai Kaioshin (Grand Supreme Kai). He is short, purple skinned with white hair, dressed in a posh Kaio outfit and always accompanied by his ever-loyal bodyguard and friend, Kibito. East Kaioshin survived Majin Buu's assault on the Kaioshin Kai to become the only surviving Kaioshin, when rescued by his bodyguard. East Kaioshin mentions that he was the weakest of the four kaioshins. Afterwards, he is typically called only Kaioshin, since there are no others to confuse him with. During the Majin Buu saga, he becomes fused with Kibito.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Yūji Mitsuya.

Kibito

Kibito is the greatest ally of East Kaioshin. He, like Dende, has the power of healing, which helps the Z Fighters in many situations. Kibito was to fight Son Gohan in the 25th Budokai but instead asked him to reveal his full power. He was killed by Dabra during reconnaissance on Babidi's ship, but is later brought back to life due to the Dragon Balls. He has the ability to heal and restore strength to other beings and Instant Transmission without the use of an energy signature called Kai Kai. He also has the ability to read people's thoughts. He was able to know Vegeta's thoughts, and surprised Vegeta when he responded to what Vegeta was thinking. This also angered Vegeta as well, feeling that his personal thoughts were invaded.

Kibito ultimately fuses with the East Kaioshin.

Rou Dai Kaioshin

Rou Kaioshin (老界王神, Rō Kaiōshin) (FUNimation dub: Elder Kai) is a Kaioshin who came out of the Z sword, in which he had been trapped and stuck to the ground by an old enemy, according to him a "incredibly strong evil fellow". He resembles the East Kaioshin, but with an older, wrinkled face, and a small mustache. Son Gohan releases him during the Majin Buu Saga when he breaks the Zeta sword, while trying to cut a block made of the strongest material in the universe. After being released, he agreed to help Gohan unlock his full potential so he could defeat Majin Buu, but only in exchange for getting to date an Earth woman.

Centuries ago, he used to be quite handsome by his own standards, but a hideous witch came up to him and stole one of his Potara Fusion Earrings and put it on. Ro Dai Kaioshin was instantly combined with the witch permanently. While he lost his looks, he gained more magical power. In the Majin Buu Saga he sacrifices his life so Son Goku can live, and gives him the Potara earrings to fuse with Gohan on Earth. However, as he was already residing in heaven, his death had little effect aside from producing a halo over his head.

In the Baby Saga of Dragon Ball GT, he helps Goku become much stronger by helping him regrowing his tail, a painful process involving a giant set of pliers.

Demonic creatures

Babidi

Babidi (バビディ, Babidi) was determined to resurrect Majin Buu so that he could continue his father's work, namely conquering the universe, and thus make him proud. Babidi took over the minds of Dabura, Pui Pui, Yakon, and Vegeta to help him in this cause. Babidi's mental abilities are very powerful, surpassing those of various mystical individuals who reside in Other World such as the telepathic North Kaio, and illusionist Princess Snake. After Buu is released, Vegeta nearly kills Babidi when trying to destroy Buu. When Buu is seemingly destroyed, Piccolo bisects Babidi and leaves him for dead. After Buu revives himself, he finds Babidi who then orders Buu to revive him. Babidi orders Buu to kill Dabura, Kaioshin, Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, Vegeta (before his sacrifice) and whoever else stands in his way. As Buu is very disobedient, Babidi can only control him by threatening to seal him up. After an encounter with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Buu learns that he is stronger than Babidi. Realizing this, Buu strangles Babidi (so Babidi can't say the spell to seal him up), and then punches his head off in rebellion. Babidi is seen in hell with Cell and Freeza but wanted the Z fighters to win after having created a grudge against Majin Buu.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Jōji Yanami.

Babidi's henchmen

Dabura

Dabura (ダーブラ, Dābura) (FUNimation dub: Dabura) is the king of a Demon Realm, and Babidi's right-hand man, being placed under his control by a spell. Dabura has the special power of turning his enemies to stone, simply by spitting on them. His name is originally taken from a Japanese pronunciation of the last half of the incantation "Abracadabura". He fights Gohan in both his normal and Super Saiyan forms to gather energy for Buu, but before they can finish, he notices Vegeta has evil within him. During the fight Vegeta shows great frustration which comes from the fact that Gohan has to make an effort to kill Dabura even though Gohan is still more powerful than Dabura. This spawns from the fact Gohan has not trained at all in the past 7 years and is only slightly more than half as strong as he was when he fought Perfect Cell. This allows Babidi to grant him power. When Buu is released, Dabura tries to kill him, but is turned into a cookie and devoured by Buu.

In the anime, upon his death, King Yemma decides that the usual punishment of exile to Hell is what Dabura would actually desire, so he instead sends him to the most peaceful region of Heaven. Dabura is later seen wandering as a "good-spirited" soul overactively consumed with love (creeping out anyone who meets him). He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Ryūzaburō Ōtomo.

Pocus

(FUNimation's dub: Pui-Pui) Pocus is a minion of Babidi, his home planet, Zoon, has a gravity of 10 G's, which he believes is an advantage against other fighters. He is defeated by Vegeta while guarding level 1 of Bobidi's spaceship. Pocus later makes a cameo appearance in the Super Artificial Human 17 Saga of Dragon Ball GT, where he is quickly killed by Goten while shooting a ki blast. His name is considered to be a pun on the phrase "Hocus Pocus".

Pocus(Pui-Pui) is not a playable character in Dragon Ball Z Tenkachi 3 but he does make a cameo appearance as one of babidi's attacks.

Yakon

Yakon is one of Babidi's majin minions. He is from a distant corner of the universe that has no light. He fights Son Goku on the second level of Babidi's spaceship. Yakon has the ability to feed off of energy attacks like the Kamehameha and strong ki auras like on from a Super Saiyan. Goku uses this ability to his advantage by powering up into a Super Saiyan 2 which overloaded Yakon with energy, causing him to explode.

Yakon later makes a cameo appearance in the Super Artificial Human 17 Saga of Dragon Ball GT along with Pocus, but they both are killed by Trunks and Goten.

Yakon is not a playable character in Dragon Ball Z Tenkachi 3 but he does make a cameo appearance as one of babidi's attacks.

Yakon is the character in the Dragon Ball Z series that Goku officially kills.

Bibidi

Bibidi (ビビディ, Bibidi) is a short wizard who brought Majin Buu into existence millions of years ago. Quite likely drunk with the power of commanding such a creature, Bibidi embarked on a quest to dominate the universe. This quest involved the elimination of most of the Kaioshin that ruled the universe at the time. When Buu became disobedient, however, Bibidi prudently sealed Buu within a large purple Egg while going from world to world. He is eventually killed by East Kaioshin after setting Buu's egg on planet Earth. He isn't seen at all in the manga and is only seen in a few flashbacks during the anime of the Buu Saga. His name is part of a word play from the classic Walt Disney motion picture, Cinderella: Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, which in turn was based on European folklore.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Isamu Tanonaka.

Garlic

Garlic is the father of Garlic Jr. He competed with the original Piccolo for the seat of Kami, but was not able to ascend to the throne because the previous Kami saw his evil ambitions. He revolted, but was sealed away in a negative space. His form is never seen clearly, but is suspected to be quite similar, if not identical, to Garlic Jr's transformed state.

Garlic Junior

Garlic Junior (ガーリック・ジュニア, Gārikku Junia) is a demon that appears in Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, and was the main villain during a filler saga in the anime. He was the first villain to be granted immortality by the Dragon Balls. His father was imprisoned by Kami in the realm of darkness, leaving Garlic Jr. with a deep feeling of resentment and desire for revenge. He collects the Dragon Balls and gains immortality. He is defeated when faced with an angry Gohan, who pushes Garlic Jr. into the Dead Zone, an alternate dimension he can freely open. Though defeated, he later reappears in the Garlic Jr. Saga in the gap between the Freeza and Trunks sagas, and battles once more against the combined efforts of Kuririn, Piccolo, and Son Gohan. He uses his power source, the Makyo-sei, to escape the Dead Zone, and uses the Black Water Mist, which causes those who breathed it in to become mindless demon slaves under his rule. He is stopped after Gohan destroys the Makyo-sei, which drains his power, leaving him trapped in the Dead Zone once again.

His resemblance is of a much earlier villain in the series, Pilaf. The two sound and almost look identical to each other, both being cunning villainous dwarves voiced by Chuck Huber and Shigeru Chiba. However, whereas Pilaf is a mere comic relief character, Garlic Jr. is a much more serious and sadistic villain, a clear reflection of the change in the tone of the entire Dragon Ball series as a whole.

He is voiced in the original movie by Akira Kamiya and in the anime series by Shigeru Chiba.

Garlic Junior.'s minions

All of Garlic Jr.'s minions have names that are puns of spices, like Garlic himself. Likewise, all of them share Garlic Jr.'s ability to increase their mass and muscle size, and their power (with this ability and possibly otherwise) seems to be amplified by their proximity to the planet Makyo-sei (literally Devil Star Planet, known as the Makyo Star in the FUNimation dub), though none of them are as strong as he is.

In Dead Zone, Garlic Jr. has three minions known as the Three Patrons of Garlic, who help him gather the Dragon Balls so he can wish for immortality. They also attack Piccolo at the beginning of the movie in an attempt to kill Kami.

  • Ginger, the leader of the Patrons, a short, dark green demon with red eyes who can pull swords out of his arms to fight with. He is killed (along with Nikki) by Goku's Kamehameha. Voiced by: Kōji Totani
  • Nikki, a blue-skinned, white-haired demon with a taste for ripe fruit. Similar to Ginger, he can pull a sword out of his thigh to fight with. He fights against Goku alongside Ginger, and is killed by Goku's Kamehameha that also kills Ginger. Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba
  • Sansho, the biggest and most intimidating of the trio, Sansho is arguably the strongest in terms of raw power but seems less intelligent than the other two. He ends up fighting alone against Piccolo, who easily kills him in revenge for attacking him at the beginning of the movie. Voiced by: Yukitoshi Hori

Following Garlic Jr.'s escape from the Dead Zone, he is assisted by four new minions, the Four Monarchs (called the Spice Boys in the English dubs), in his plan to plunge the world into darkness by pouring a demonic Aqua Mist (called Black Water Mist in the FUNimation dub).

  • Gashyu, the unofficial leader of the four, who has blue skin and white hair. He possesses the ability to grow his hair out very long to ensnare an opponent. His name is Spice in the FUNimation dub.
  • Vinegar, the largest of the four, who has purple skin and long brown hair.
  • Tado, a large, bovine-like being with long red hair and horns. His name is Mustard in the FUNimation dub.
  • Salt, the smallest member of the group, who has red skin and blonde hair.

Salt and Tado fight against Gohan and Kuririn and severely injure the latter. In revenge, Gohan kills both of them, first Salt than Tado. Gashyu and Vinegar last a little while longer. In a later fight, Vinegar gets imbedded into a wall by a punch from Gohan, whilst Gashyu is impaled on a spike. Both of them are seemingly killed here, but are revived by the rays of Makyo-sei, and, like their predecessors in Dead Zone, bulk up to become almost as large as Garlic himself. Despite their increased power, however, they are both still killed again by Gohan, this time for good.

Hirudegaan

Hirudegaan (ヒルデガーン, Hirudegān) (FUNimation dub: Hirudegarn) is the enormous monster and main villain in the Dragon Ball Z movie, Wrath of the Dragon. He was created by a group of black magicians who cast a spell of negative energy on a menacing statue and brought it to life over 1,000 years before the time line of the Dragon Ball series on the planet Konats. Before it could destroy Konats, two brothers, Tapion and Minosha, managed to freeze the monster in his tracks by each playing their divine ocarina. This gave a priest the opportunity to cut the monster in half with a divine sword. Since Hirudegaan couldn't be killed at the time, his upper-half was sealed in Tapion and the other half in Minosha. However, fearing that the monster might reappear someday, the brothers were separated, each sealed in a music box oracle, and were shot into opposite ends of the galaxy far away from each other. He has eventually revived on the planet Earth where Son Goku defeats him for good.

Hirudegaan is able to undergo a metamorphosis of sorts, and emerge a more powerful insect-like creature with the ability of flight. Hirudegaan is only tangible when he's attacking, otherwise, he can instantly teleport away. In the movie, Hirudegaan makes his change over the ruins of a crushed building that looks like Tokyo Tower. This is nod to the classic Japanese movie monster Mothra. He appears in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 though only in his final form.

Hirudegaan's name comes from the film's co-producer, Seichi Hirude. He disliked the first design of the character and demanded a redesign. When he saw the new design, his jaw dropped. The sound effect for a jaw dropping in Japan is "Gaan" (ガーン), so they named the character Hirudegaan.[6]

Janemba

Janemba (ジャネンバ, Janenba) (FUNimation dub: Janemba) is the main villain of Fusion Reborn. He is a being of pure evil created when a teenage ogre named Saike accidentally destroys all of the evil purifying tanks in Hell. The evil forms around him to create a giant, yellow, and childlike being that turns Hell into his own paradise. Son Goku and Paikuhan are sent out to deal with him. Eventually, Janemba is beaten by Goku, but this forces Janemba to transform into a second state, which easily defeats Goku. Vegeta shows up to save him, and the two defeat Janemba by fusing into Gogeta, who purifies Janemba, turning him back into Saike.

His first form is chubby and very large. Janemba's intelligence is limited; the only word he knows how to say is his own name. His attacks involve things such as creating miniature versions of himself and Goku, creating dimensional portals and sending his arms through to punch his enemies, and shooting ki blasts from the 4 holes on his chest. After being defeated, Janemba transformed. In his super form, Janemba is smaller (yet still taller than Gogeta, who is taller than Goku), but is more powerful and unlike his previous form, is deadly serious. This form is able to use a deconstruction/reconstruction teleportation known as the "Bunkai Teleport", his Bunkai Teleport gives him regeneration abilities (as seen when Pikkon yelled at him a piece of him fell off but after he uses Bunkai Teleport he appears as though it never broke off), portals with which he can attack through, stretch his arm at lengths, turn objects into deadly weapons, project his opponents' own ki back at them through portals, and wield a powerful sword capable of shooting ki energy out in strikes. He also has the power to sense any being in the universe as well as raise the dead. His powers also include flight, a very powerful form of telekinesis, the power to infuse others with his evil force, matter control and reality alteration. Time and space are a mere play thing for him. Yet, strangely, he, and the barriers he creates around the entrance to the afterlife, have a weakness against harsh words. When yelled at or insulted, a thin layer of him is broken off like glass. He appears in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with both forms. Once he is defeated in game the stage Hell is also unlocked for fighting in.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Tesshō Genda.

Majin Buu

Majin Buu was the evil demon that Bibidi sealed away, due to his extreme power and ruthless nature, on Earth millions of years before Dragon Ball. Bibidi's son, the wizard Babidi, would search for Buu in an attempt to revive him and continue his father's work.

Piccolo Daimao

(English dubs: King Piccolo)

Piccolo Daimao (ピッコロ大魔王, Pikkoro Daimaō) (lit. The Great Demon King Piccolo) was the evil half of the god of the earth (Kami). In order to become the earth's god, the then unnamed Namek purified himself of all evil thought. This negative energy took on physical form, becoming the villanous Piccolo. Being formed of pure, concentrated evil, he designated himself as the Great Demon King and laid siege to the world. Eventually, the Demon King was imprisoned by Mutaito in an electric rice cooker for centuries by the suicidal Mafuba (lit. Demon Containment Wave).

After being released from his confinement by Emperor Pilaf, Piccolo decides to kill all the current and former finalists of the Tenka'ichi Budôkai, thereby removing all those who might be able to learn the Mafuba attack in which would seal him away again. To aid him in this, he spawns several minions. Many people, including Kuririn, are killed by his minions, making Goku and his friends seek revenge. Goku eventually confronts him, only to easily be beaten.

Piccolo is then able to gather the Dragon Balls to summon Shenlong, allowing Piccolo to wish for the restoration of his youth, becoming more powerful than since he was returned to his physical prime. Piccolo then kills the dragon to prevent anyone else from making a wish that could stop him. With no one left who can properly challenge him, Piccolo overthrows the King of the World and becomes the ruler of the Earth. He institutes several evil policies such as releasing all criminals and a planned system of destruction. Goku ends up facing him, leading to his death. Before dying, he regurgitated one last egg that becomes, reincarnating himself as Piccolo Ma Jr. (lit. Son of the Demon Piccolo) in order to pursue his revenge. However, this new body was that of a naturally born Namekian, rather than a concentration of evil energy. This curbed his cruelty somewhat, and eventually leads to his reform and transformation into an heroic character.

Piccolo Daimao has appeared in several Dragon Ball related video games, including Super Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Takeshi Aono and voiced by Christopher Sabat in the English dub.

Piccolo Daimao's minions

Piccolo Daimao created several offspring after his escape, however there is some inconsistency to them, and the reproduction of regular Nameks. However, it can be assumed that the offsprings demonic appearance can be a result of Daimao being pure evil, and therefore supernatural in nature, although it is hinted that Daimao has some control over what they look like. They are strangely named after instruments.

Piano is Piccolo Daimao's first minion. The longest living member of Piccolo Daimao's mutant spawns. He is a pterodactyl humanoid figure, and is very bright. He is killed by Piccolo Daimao's crushing weight when Goku kicks Piccolo into him, killing him instantly, so we never know how strong he really is, although he is shown to be very powerful compared to a human.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Masato Hirano.

Tambourine is Piccolo Daimao's second minion, He has green, scaly skin, wide yellow eyes, thick green lips, no nose, and a fin running across his head. His orders were to hunt down and assassinate all contenders who participated in the Tenka-ichi Budôkai from the most recent dating back to the past ten and a few years so that Piccolo's hostile takeover is a smooth one. He was also ordered to pick-up up any Dragon Balls he sees along the way if he happened to come across any. Tambourine kills Kuririn by chance, along with five other participants of the past tournaments. He even beat up a young Goku because he was weak from his battle with Tenshinhan and blinded with rage because Tambourine had just killed his best friend. Tambourine also destroyed the Kintoun (Nimbus) cloud for good, until Goku got a new one from Karin later in the series. Tambourine was vaporized to bits by Goku's Kamehameha.

He is a playable character in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii and Playstation 2.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Ryūsei Nakao.

Cymbal is Piccolo Daimao's third minion. He resembles a humanoid plump dragon, most notabally Giran. He is sent by Piccolo to search for the Dragon Balls. He is killed by Yajirobe, who slices him in three with his katana, then roasts him over a fire and eats him.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Daisuke Gōri.

Drum is Piccolo Daimao's fourth minion. He is a wide, green monster, that resembles a massive Tambourine. Even though he is the shortest-lived evil spawn of Piccolo Daimao, up to this point he was the strongest since Piccolo created him when he was in his prime. Piccolo spits him out just as Tenshinhan arrives to try and trap Piccolo in the Mafu-ba. Drum attacks Tenshinhan, and clobbers him quite easily until Son Goku arrives, at which point Goku flies at him and kills him with a single kick to the head.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Daisuke Gōri.

Princess Snake

Princess Snake is, in actuality, a giant snake temptress who lures people into her castle on Serpent Road. She also goes by the name Jadōshin. She became the Snake Princess in 739 B.C. and the only person who she ever tried to capture was Enma Daio about 500 years ago. When Goku comes along, she tries to steal his heart, but his sense of loyalty to his family and friends is of course far too strong (and the fact that he is completely clueless about things like love), so, she just turns into a giant fire-breathing snake and tries to eat him. It is unknown whether Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Yamcha were also captured by her on their way to meet North Kaio, or they simply ignored her castle and moved on. It could be possible that the Serpent Road has more relation to her, rather than to North Kaio. She does not appear in the manga by Akira Toriyama.

Dragons

Black-Star Shenlong

Black-Star Shenlong (FUNimation dub: Black Star Shenron) was made by Kami when he and Piccolo Daimao were still one entity. He can only be summoned by the "Black Star Dragon Balls". This dragon can grant any wish, including killing someone, something neither Porunga nor Shenlong can do. After the wish has been made, the Dragon Balls spread around the galaxy; if the balls aren't brought back to the planet on which the wish was made, in a standard year, the planet will explode. He is also the largest of all the dragons, as his head alone is bigger than Kami's lookout. Unlike the regular Shenlong and Porunga, the Black Star Shenlong is red not green.

Evil Dragons

(FUNimation dub: Shadow Dragons)

The Evil Dragons are a group of characters from Dragon Ball GT. They were born from overusing the Dragon Balls, as every wish creates negative energy that takes many years to dispel. Despite warnings from Rō Dai Kaiōshin, the Z Fighters have used the Dragon Balls much more often than that, and too much negative energy built up. This meant that the Dragon Balls had cracked, and when the Z Fighters tried to summon Shenlong at the end of the Super Jinzōningen #17 Saga, the first Evil Dragon appeared instead, Evil Shenlong informs the Z Fighters about the negative energy, and then split himself into seven more Evil Dragons, one for each Dragon Ball. The Evil Dragons are listed in order of the number of stars of their respective Dragon Balls.

Yi Xing Long

FUNimation dub: Omega Shenron. The strongest of the evil dragons. He fought against Son Goku (Dragon Ball) and Vegeta. But they didn't defeat him until they used the fusion method while in Super Saiyan 4. Now they turned in to SS4 Gogeta. Since they were so strong they only had 10 minutes and to finish him off, but they used up all their time, so they turned back into Son Goku and Vegeta. Son Goku used a spirit bomb from all of the planets of the universe to finish him off.

Liang Xing Long

Liang Xing Long Liǎng Xīng Lóng (二星龍, Rianshinron, lit. "Two-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Haze Shenron) is a dragon-like villain and the first of the seven Evil Dragons to appear. Liang Xing Long came into being when Son Goku used the Dragon Balls to bring Bora back to life after Taopaipai had killed him. When Goku made his wish, Negative Energy increased within the Dragon Balls, particularly within the Èr Xīng Qiú (Kanji: 二星球; katakana: アルシンチュウ, Rōmaji: Arushinchū, English: Two-Star Ball). When the Dragon Balls became completely corrupted by Negative Energy, the Er Xing Qui flew into a lake and transformed into Liang Xing Long.

The Evil Dragon's power was to use his Negative Energy to pollute water and slowly kill all surrounding life. He claimed to be the most powerful of the Evil Dragons but Wu Xing Long claimed to be the strongest as well. Wu Xing Long also said that Liang Xing Long was really the weakest. Another was Qi Xing Long (the strongest was really Yi Xing Long).

San Xing Long

San Xing Long Sān Xīng Lóng (三星龍, Sanshinron, lit. "Three-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Ice Shenron) is the Dragon of Ice and is also Si Xing Long's brother. San Xing Long joins the fight against Son Goku. San Xing Long was born when the Z warriors made the wish to cancel the deeds of Majin Buu from the memories of those who were not involved in the struggle against Buu (Anyone except the Z warriors and their families and friends and possibly anyone who Buu was kind to, eg. the blind boy that Buu gave his eyesight back to). This was done so that Good Buu/Mr Buu could live on Earth in peace. He is much more dishonorable and cowardly than his brother, hiding behind Pan's unconscious body when convenient, and blinding Son Goku in order to make the fight easier. Son Goku eventually proved he didn't need to see in order to beat him, and killed San Xing Long while still blind. He also has the power to manipulate ice and moisture. some of his moves are ice beam, a blast that freezes people, he can change the background to pure ice, he can blind people, and he can shoot a cannon through his hand.

Si Xing Long

Si Xing Long Sì Xīng Lóng (四星龍, Sūshinron, lit. "Four-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Nova Shenron) , the Dragon of Fire, Si Xing Long controls the fire element and is able to both use strong fire attacks and be unaffected by them. Initially his skin is covered by a magma-looking armor that boosts his defense but slows him down, eventually he gets rid of that shell and reveals his orange colored skin. some of his moves are nova star, he can make shield a of fire, nova death ray, a barrage of ki blasts made out of fire, a fire energy wave, a fire meteor and he can increase his temperature to be hotter than the sun.He is also extremely fast, shown to be faster than Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta. He watches his brother (San Xing Long) fight Goku, but is killed by Yi Xing Long before he can fight Goku again. He is temporarily revived when Goku eats the Four-Star Dragon Ball, but is soon killed and absorbed by Yi Xing Long again. Of all the dragons he is the only one which shows compassion towards other beings (this is due to the fact that he has a sense of honour and does not like to fight and win unfairly), this trait would eventually lead to him reforming and befriending Goku during the battle. Even though Goku won the fight in the end he spared Si's life because he spared Pan when he could have killed her. He tries to help Goku and Vegeta but was killed yet again and his dragonball was reabsorbed by Yi Xing Long in the final battle.

Si Xing long, was born when Piccolo Daimao wished for youth when Son Goku was around fifteen years of age.

Wu Xing Long

Wu Xing Long Wǔ Xīng Lóng (五星龍, wushinron, lit. "Five-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Rage Shenron) carries the power of electricity. He creates a slimy substance that draws the energy out of any object that it touches; the energy is then transferred to his body as strength. The more Wu Xing Long absorbs, the larger he gets, which turns out to be his downfall. Just as he is about to kill Son Goku, rain starts to fall. It turns out that he expanded himself too large and had nowhere to hide from the precipitation, which ultimately short-circuited him out. Although Wu survived the short-circuit, Goku killed him as soon as it was apparent that Wu Xing Long still wanted to eliminate Goku, and the Dragon Ball embedded in the dragon was restored. Some of his moves are Dragon Thunderblast and Dragon Thundercloud.

Wu Xing Long was born when Son Goku was wished back to life before Vegeta and Nappa landed on planet Earth.

Liu Xing Long

Liu Xing Long Liù Xīng Lóng (六星龍, Riushinron, lit. "Six-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Oceanus Shenron), The Dragon of Water and Wind, dons the persona of Princess Oto. Because she captures schools of fish and rains them down on the villagers, the fishermen don't have to fish, and the people in this small fishing village worship her as a god. However, a young villager is suspicious of her, since the seagulls had been acting strangely since her arrival. When asked which wish she was born from, Liu Xing Long becomes angry and embarrassed. This is because she was born when Oolong wished for a pair of women's panties. Her powers revolve around hurricanes: She can generate a hurricane as defense, with the wind diverting any attack that hits it, as well as for offense, with the wind causing damage to anything and anyone it touches. some of her moves are air shattering energy ball, mighty hurricane fury, whirlwind spin, and she can deflect moves by saying deflect. Liu Xing Long can also use wind to put up a disguise to make herself appear far more beautiful (in the form of Oto) than her true appearance, which is closer an ogre. Her tornado's weakness was discovered when the seagull that the young villager was nursing flies to the top of the tornado and then goes straight down to Liu Xing Long, attacking her directly. Taking advantage of this newfound weakness, Pan flies also to the top of the tornado and launches an attack at the dragon, giving Goku the distraction he needed to launch a Kamehame wave and kill the dragon.

Qi Xing Long

Qi Xing Long Qī Xīng Lóng (七星龍, Chīshinron, lit. "Seven-Star Dragon") (FUNimation dub: Naturon Shenron) is one of the seven Evil Dragons, and is the dragon of earthquakes. Qi Xing Long was born when Bulma wished for the people killed by Vegeta in the Tenkaichi Budōkai to be revived. When Goku, Pan and Giru were searching for the Dragon Balls, Qi Xing Long was the 4th Dragon they found. Goku easily defeated Qi Xing Long, but then the evil dragon tricked Pan and absorbed her.Due to this Goku was forced to hold back so he wouldn't kill Pan. He gained much power, but due to cockiness (a flaw of many Dragon Ball characters) Goku was able to retrieve Pan, destroy Qi Xing Long and get the Qi Xing Qiu. Some of his moves are acid shot, absorption, and the use other peoples attack's after he absorbs them.

Evil Shenlong

Evil Shenlong (FUNimation dub: Black Smoke Shenron) - In Dragon Ball GT, after the death of Super 17, Son Goku and his friends put together the seven Dragon Balls. Instead of Shenlong, a cigar-smoking black dragon appears, that represents the negative energy that accumulated for many years (because the Dragon Balls use positive energy). This dragon is then divided into seven evil dragons, one for every Dragon Ball and wish that was made in 20-30 years ago in the past.

Porunga

Porunga is Namek's wish granting dragon, summoned when all the Dragon Balls of Namek are gathered. He is more brutal looking than the dragon of Earth, Shenlong, with a heavily muscled upper body and traits that resemble a Namekian, although he acts a bit friendlier(Krillan sayed he was a "dragon with an attitude"). He is 3x larger than Shenlong.[volume & issue needed] He is also somewhat stronger and can grant three wishes instead of one, so long as it doesn’t exceed his creators power, his creator is still alive, and each request is delivered in the Namekian dialect.

Initially, Porunga had the ability to bring only one person back to life at a time (though he could bring people back multiple times), as compared to Shenlong who can bring back an unspecified number of people but can only do so once. Later, Porunga's power is strengthened to bring back as many lives as needed. A powerful god known as Rou Dai Kaioshin criticized this as "a blasphemous act that disrupts the order of nature" but did not seem to mind after that. Rou Dai's warnings proved real when the shadow dragons appeared from the abuse of the dragon balls.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Junpei Takiguchi and Daisuke Gōri.

Shenlong

Shenlong (FUNimation dub: Shenron) (lit. "Dragon God" or "Divine Dragon"), is the wish granting dragon of Earth. The Shenlong of the Black Star Dragon Balls is red, opposed to the Shenlong of Earth who is green.

Shenlong can be summoned by gathering all seven of the Dragon Balls of Earth. Shenlong can bestow any wish as long as it does not exceed the power of his creator, who must be still alive (i.e. Kami or Dende). Multiple times in the Dragon Ball series, Shenlong threatens to kill the summoner if they do not say a wish on time, or if they do not say a wish at all. Shenlong cannot bring back a person from the dead more than once. The Dragon Balls cannot be used for 365 Earth days after a wish is made, as they turn to stone. The Earth Dragon Balls are relatively small, each about the size of a large orange, much smaller than the namekian Dragon Balls, which are the size of beach balls.

The base for Shenlong is a stone statue kept by his creator. If Shenlong is killed, the Dragon Balls turn to stone. The statue also shatters. If the creator or another Namekian wishes to, they can rebuild the statue to give life back to Shenlong and the Dragon Balls. This happened after Shenlong granted Piccolo Daimao's wish for youth.

While Kami and Piccolo weren't merged, Shenlong could only grant one wish. After Dende brought him back to life, he was able to grant two wishes (three if the first does not revive more than one at a time). If the summoner wants, he can only make one wish. This makes the Dragon Balls turn to stone for only six months.

He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Kenji Utsumi (DB, DBZ up to latter part of Freeza Saga, and Video Games) and Masaharu Satō (DBZ end of Freeza Saga and on).
