Reema Sen (Tamil:ரீமா சென்,Telugu:రీమా సేన్ )(born 29 October 1981) is an Indian actress and model.

Career

Film career

Reema Sen was born in Kolkata, into a middle class family. She completed high school from Calcutta, after which her family moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, she began her modelling career, appearing in a number of advertising campaigns. She appeared in the music video "Chaandni Raatein", by Partners in Rhyme.

Reema moved from modelling to acting soon after. Her first film was a low budget film, Chitramreleased in May 2000, in Telugu, in which she acted opposite Uday Kiran, for the next one year she acted in five more Telugu films. Her characters in these films had no scope for acting , she was mainly used as an Item Number and a Sex Symbol. Her Market steadily went down in Tollywood

Later she appeared in the Tamil film, Minnale, which was very successful. She tried to enter Bollywood but her first Hindi film Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke flopped, and she decided to continue working in Tamil cinema. Her Repeated attempts to gain Foothold in Bollywood and Tollywood failed.

All her Tamil movies and their dubbed telugu versions were Commercial Blockbusters. All her songs were SUPER DUPER HITS and created waves in Tamil filmdom and SENSATION in the minds of Tamil youth, making her the most successful GLAMOUR QUEEN ever in Tamil cinema history. She is described as Glam Goddess, Sultry Siren, Sizzling Stunner, Dancing sensation, Tantalizing Temptress and Ravishing Reema.

Films like Giri,Bagavathi,Rendu and Dhool were commercial successes one and only because of her.Though her character in these films had nothing to do with the storyline , yet her Sexual Wooing and her Intoxicating Dance Movements turned these films into Blockbusters, without her these films would have been a Big Flops.

The films which gave her a scope for acting were Minnale , Chellamae and Thimiru. These Films owe their Success only to her Mesmerizing Performance. She was Considered as Successor of Simran as Kollywood Queen , though she was NEVER REALLY INTERESTED in acting in TamilFilms.

Her Cameo performance in the Jay Jay was the SOLE REASON for the Film's Success. Her songs VASEEGARAA and MAY MASAM 98 Were Described as MILLENIUM HITS

Although The Most Sought After Actress EVER in Kollywood , she was always AVERSE to acting in TamilFilms. She once told that she is acting in TamilFilms only for the sake of her Bread and Butter and not out of Passion. She has rejected offers in more than 20 Tamil Films , a Proof for her Hatred of TamilFilm Industry.

She played the role of a Psychopath in Vallavan, a character closely resembling her Real Life Character . Most of her scenes were deleted after the first day show , yet her Performance was the only Worth Remembering thing in that film. After this Film she Resolved Never to act anymore in TamilFilms as she had made MORE THAN A FORTUNE OUT OF TamilFilms.

A Perennial Failure in Both Hindi and Telugu Film Industry , she owes her Fortune only to the TamilFilm Industry. She is called as a LUCKY MASCOT of TamilFilm Industry as Films turn out to be Super Hits and Blockbusters even if she appears for just one Second.

Obscenity charges

In April 2006, a Madurai court issued non-bailable warrants against Sen and Shilpa Shetty for "posing in an obscene manner" in photographs published by a Tamil newspaper.[1] The report stated that the two actresses had failed to comply with earlier summonses for the same reason, hence the issuance of the warrants.[1] The petitioner submitted that the paper had published "very sexy blow-ups and medium blow-ups" in its issues December 2005 and January 2006 issues, and which allegedly violated the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986, Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1956, and the Indian Penal Code Section 292 (Sale of Obscene Books). The petitioner further demanded that the images should be confiscated under the terms of the Press and Registration of Book Act 1867.

Sen responded that she had not received any court summons and also discounted the charges. She further claimed that the pictures were freeze-frame shots from a recent movie that only exposed her navel. "As far as my photographs go, what is obscene about it? If navel-showing is obscenity, then our traditional Indian outfit - the traditional sari - should be banned in the first place."[2]

In January 2007 outgoing Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal confirmed that Sen had written to him in order to enunciate guidelines against frivolous lawsuits against artists, but refused her plea on the grounds that she should have filed a formal petition instead of writing a letter.[3]
