also, i believe the music credit is wrong. unlike an impressive number of nintendo games, kondo-san didn't do all the music himself, but had help from a second composer. i could be wrong.

Not the latest anymore

Not sure if this is correct or how to rephrase it, but with the recent release of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, wouldn't SMS no longer be the latest console game in the Mario series?

Enemy pages

I don't think seperate pages for all the enemies is necessary. Can't you just include them in the main article, or make a new page to have them all in? [Ragey]

Criticisms

"It is often stated is that Nintendo missed many opportunities to rectify this; for example, despite the game's tropical theme, they failed to include a water level, which would have been a definite break from the rest of the game."

The term "water level" is pretty ambiguous. From what I remember, there were several "water" levels. In particular the level where there's a bay, and the poluted water level with the cliffside.

Too much criticism

I don't understand the point of such a long "Criticism" section, detailing every problem everyone could ever have had with the game. Very few game articles ever go into such a ridiculous amount of detail about the things people disliked in the game, and that section is just nitpicking - never mind that SMS IS a high quality game and it's unfair to bring up complaints and criticism that stands on pretty weak ground. I get that some people didn't like the large amount of change FLUDD brang, and some people disliked the lack of variety, but a lot of the rest of the criticism is unnecessary. A lot of it can be removed, and the section changed into more of a "Response" or "Reviews" section like many other games get, also citing more of the positive aspects of the game from sites that reviewed it very highly (of which there were a lot). --Impossible 07:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry not to log in, but this is emerald2000. I've changed Il Piantissimo, similar to koopa the Quick of Super Mario 64, you must race II Piantissimo to a flag to achieve your reward. Not considered a boss by some, though he technically fits the definiton. He appears to be a short, dark-skinned, goateed man wearing a vest and purple shorts, shoes, gloves and a Pianta mask. This description also fits the Running Man from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the Postman from Majora's Mask. We all know how popular masks are in Hyrule, don't we...?

Goombas in Sunshine?

The article's enemies-section mentions Goombas, but I do not recall seeing any Goombas in this game. Do you think the writer may have gotten it mixed up with Koopas? Or is there a Goomba somewhere in the game that I've missed? (user:HannuMakinen)

Innuendo in the game

Believe it or not, there is sexual innuendo in the game.

At the end of Pinna Park, episode one, there is a very questionable cutscene. Shadow Mario reveals his real identity: Bowser Jr. And apparently, Bowser made Bowser Jr. believe that Princess Peach was his mother. Even though this seems questionable, Bowser Jr. disproves it at the end of the game.

this makes me laugh a lot, I feel it's imprtant to note, that before bowser jr. mentions bowser, and he calls peach his mommy, peach says "so your bowsers son." Despite the fact that she is terrible at recognising people and teeling people apart. earlier in the game, she mistook shadow Mario for Mario, oblivious to the fact that the real mario, isn't blue and shiney.

Also bowser's face when Bowser Jr. says "I know, she's not really my mommy," It's sort of a "Oh.... yeah! that's what I was going to say! face!"

although I don't think it should be mentioned on the page.

Also--"The only known boss that was used in its first beta versions is a giant walking banana-like enemy that spurts paint out of the top of its "head". When ran up to, it will run into a pit, where its "weak spot", the top of its head, will be exposed. By jumping on it, the banana enemy will shrivel up, then explode." Does this sound suspiciously phallic to anyone else or is it just me?

Ending

There's no details on what happens at the end of the game. I think this would be useful. I haven't played it for a while so I can't remember what happens after you beat the last boss and I don't know what happens after you collect all the shines. Anyone able to write that? Clean is better than dirty!

While it may not be that important, perhaps this article should also discuss that corny "clean is better than dirty" commercial that played often when this game was released.

Don't forget the Nokis!

There's a part of this article dedicated to Piantas but not Nokis. You see Nokis in the game about as much as Piantas, so someone needs to write about them.

There are spoilers in this atricle (including the identity of Shadow Mario) that are not marked as such. They should be. It also says that a prototype version "has not been found" and then that a prototype vesion included other human characters. The whole section about 60 vs 30 frames per second doesn't make sense. Standard televisions are only capable of doing 30 frames per second. I think this is getting confused with FIELDS per second or 60i. Anyway, if this game runs at 30 FRAMES per second, its doing the max.

Gooper Blooper

THis is an extremely minor character whose only major appeareance is in this game as one of the eight obsses. Per WP:FICT, I am suggesting that this should be merged. Hbdragon88 23:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

I guess its true that Gooper really hasnt had a major role in any Mario game except Mario Sunshine and Super Princess Peach, and his role in both games was to be a boss with no dialouge, but maybe in time they will reveal more information on him, just like Petey Piranha who appeared as a simple boss in sunshine but then he was classified as the king of pirahna plants and made more appearances in other games, who knows maybe Gooper is the king of the Bloopers, but if everyone agrees that he doesnt deserve his own article yet then maybe he should be placed in Mario series enemies. 66.50.95.52 01:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree with Giantdevilfish as well. It really doesn't belong in the SMS article, as it has also been in Mario Power Tennis, and it is still possible (though not exactly likely) for it to make further appearances. Blooper (Mario) sounds like the way to go. --LuigiManiac 13:28, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

There's honestly nothing to talk about outside of their respective roles as minor characters (Blooper only appears in about 5 levels in SMB). There is plenty of precedent for merging minor characters into the game of their most major appearance; i.e. Patsy Ramsey redirects to JonBenét Ramsey because her notability is directly correlated into the death of her daughter, nothing more. Arguably, Gooper Blooper is pretty much only notable as a boss in SMS, which is why I was setting up the proposal to here instead of Blooper (Mario). Why were the characters and areas sections removed?

Why were these sections removed? They were perfectly reasonable and hardly "game guide" encyclopedic contenet. If Pianta and Noki aren't covered in this article, then they should have their own pages back, as they have no longer been merged into the article. It appears that the Noki article was merged per Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Noki, but Pianta was incredibly merged by User:Nifboy only 13 minutes after adding a notices.--Bobby D. DS. 05:59, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Second best-selling GameCube game?

In this source it indicates Super Mario Sunshine sold 5.5 million copies and in this other source it states that "Super Smash Bros. Melee is the best selling GameCube title ever, with over 6 million copies sold worldwide..." So there is no source that says Super Mario Sunshine is the second best-selling game on the GameCube and the List of best-selling video games article can't be used as a source as Wikipedia articles can't be used as sources. --Silver Edge (talk) 23:35, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
