Schools

Because it is located in Harford County, the community of Abingdon is served by the Harford County Public Schools. Most students in Abingdon up to and including sixth grade attend William S. James Elementary School or Abingdon Elementary School. Some of these students at James Elementary will attend Edgewood Middle School, and then Edgewood High School, while the remainder will attend Patterson Mill Middle/High School. In addition, all of the students at Abingdon Elementary feed into Edgewood High School, as well. A third elementary school, William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary, is on the border between Abingdon and Edgewood, and those students also attend the Edgewood schools.

History

Abingdon was named after Abingdon, England.[1] The town is the birthplace of William Paca, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the third Governor of Maryland.
