New picture?

I've uploaded a new picture (of my own) that I think might be a better image for the top of this page. I'd like to replace the main picture up front, but I'm not sure if there might be any objections, or if there's a consensus preference for the existing picture. Here's the new one:

No, it definitely does not apply in her case. Norah's part-Indian ethnicity is not relevant to her notability. She rarely mentions her Indian ethnicity in interviews. This exception applies for people like Rosa Parks. Also, it is POV to only mention half of her ethnicity when she is mixed. --musicpvm 16:57, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I agree with musicpvm - her ethnicity has nothing to do with her career. Her relationship to Ravi does bear on her initial success, but that's not an ethnic connection: it's having a friend in the business.

While we're here, can someone explain in what way Norah is a "Yamaha artist"? (Note recent category addition.) - Corporal Tunnel 20:39, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure about that. The Yamaha Artist article states "Yamaha Artist refers to musical instrumentalists (or artists) who choose, officially, to play any of a large group of Yamaha musical instruments". I don't know if that is true in her case though. --musicpvm 03:48, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Anglo-Indian - re: categories

I can not see any mention anywhere of Norah Jones having English or generally British ancestry, American ancestry in itself cannot even in the broader use of the term Anglo-Indian be considered to be equivalent. The term has always referred to those with usually English but sometimes more broadly British ancestry from families either who lived for a number of years in India and/or had ancestry from longstanding Indian groups. The Indian Government defines Anglo-Indian as being those of families that combined Indian and British ancestry and lived in India.--Lord of the Isles 15:55, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Photo

I have added a place holder photo of Norah (her first CD's cover) to replace the one deleted on November 7th. The photo has been sourced from her own publicity site.

This photo is as low res as one can get, so would be good if someone could upload a decent, appropriately licensed photo ASAP.

More updates

Unsure why the {{cleanup|February 2007}} tag is in place, since the article is in a pretty good shape.

Have broken up some lengthy sections with sub-headings, moved a few paragraphs around to make more logical sense.

Also replaced the photo with a higher resolution one (from the same source - Norah's publicity site) to address the "bulging cheek" problem :) that was probably the result of pixelation. She is round-faced, and she is cute - live with it. :)

Anything else that could be done to justify removing the {{cleanup|February 2007}} tag?

Timing

The article states she attended "...the University of North Texas, where she majored in jazz piano, and won Best Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist (twice, in 1996 and 1997) and Best Original Composition (1996)." So, Norah, born March 30 1979 (as the article states), was in University in 1996, when she was 17? I don't know how school works in Texas, but when I was 17 (and I'm only two weeks older than Norah), I was still in high school. --Bentonia School 16:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Encyclopedic?

Is the sentence "Since about that time she has been romantically involved with bassist Lee Alexander" encyclopedic? While it may or may not be true, should it feature in an encyclopedia article that also is a biography and hence should not really have such personal information in it. Derisive Remarks

Under the Trivia heading, someone put: She has been nicknamed "Snorah" to indicate the unbearably slow, lethargic nature of her wanna-be music.

I believe this should be edited to be more polite and assume a neutral point of view. anyone agree? I know she has been called "Snorah" but I think even that should have some kind of citation.

Making derisive comments about a style of music just because the editor has no appreciation for it has no place in an article about an artist who performs in that particular style. Personal opinions and judgments should not be expressed in an encyclopedia article. And the "fact" is irrelevant in any case - boring artists don't make it to #1 on the charts - Norah did. Photo (again)

Someone has deleted the photo "Norah Jones world tour Paris 2003.jpg". I can't find any reference in the deletion logs either on WP or in WP commons, but the end result is that we do not have a decent photo for the article's subject.

Can anyone help with a properly licensed, full-face picture (preferably not an album cover)?

New Orleans Jazz festival

The article says she performed at Jazz Fest both in 2004 and 2005. I saw her perform there in 2007 - and she announced she was very glad to perform there 'finally' for the first time. There are Awards and then there are Grammy Awards

These two sections contain information about the same awards. I love how the Awards sections starts out about how Norah Jones, "has won multiple awards, most notably her Grammy Awards..." and then goes on to list only Grammy Awards. This article states that Norah Jones at the 2003 Grammy Award became only the second artist to win the "Big Four" for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist. However according to the article on the Grammy Awards the Song of the Year award is awarded to the composer, not the performer, in this case Jesse Harris. This information was incorrect. I have already removed it! Thanks for pointing it out! The Song of the Year award is a songwriter's award. It was won by Jesse Harris alone. Christopher Cross remains the only artist to ever win the "Big Four" all at once.

Third album: Not Too Late

On the first page of Norah Jones her place of birth is given three times and each one is different: Brooklyn, New York City, and Atlanta, Georgia! Which is it? I don't know the answer. My wife is doing a radio program on Norah Jones and wanted some more information about her. She found this inconsistency and brought it to my attention. She also thought there were grammatical erros, and generally sloppy writing in this piece, as well as in others I have forwarded to her. But then she is a stickler for grammatical accuracy. Birthplace

The top of the page states that she was born in New York, but the first sentence of the biography section says she was born in Atlanta, Georgia. This discrepancy needs to be resolved. Qball2002 02:44, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Vegetarian
