Hales Corners is a village in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,765 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Hales Corners is located at 42°56′29″N 88°3′4″W / 42.94139°N 88.05111°W / 42.94139; -88.05111Invalid arguments have been passed to the {{#coordinates:}} function (42.941264, -88.051211)Template:GR in southwestern Milwaukee County. It is bounded by Greenfield on the north, Greendale on the east, Franklin on the south, and New Berlin and Muskego in Waukesha County on the west.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 7,765 people, 3,260 households, and 2,122 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,424.7 people per square mile (936.9/km²). There were 3,377 housing units at an average density of 1,054.5/sq mi (407.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.15% White, 0.22% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.97% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.09% of the population.

There were 3,260 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the village the population was spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $54,536, and the median income for a family was $66,136. Males had a median income of $42,175 versus $33,237 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,354. About 0.3% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.6% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
