Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is an football (soccer) video game in the Pro Evolution Soccer series by Konami, following on from Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.

Demo

A PES 2009 demo is set for release on the Xbox Live Marketplace on September 11th. A date for release on PlayStation Network is yet to be confirmed. The demo should feature various international teams, which you will able to use in a 5-10 minute exhibition with 4 players on the Xbox 360/PC version and 7 players on the PS3 version.

Konami has announced that Argentine forward Lionel Messi will be the face of PES 2009 title. As part of the new agreement, Messi will appear on the box of all versions of PES 2009 when it is released later this year across Europe, and feature in promotional materials for the game.

Wii version

Building on the control system of its predecessor, PES 2009 expands on the basic concept of players controlling both the player with the ball and those around them. PES 2009 will bring the user closer to the game by introducing different control methods which cater for a wide range of play styles.

PES 2009 for Nintendo Wii will feature a number of key additions, with an enhanced shooting system offering more control. The development team has also reworked the defensive elements of the game, with more control over defenders and more ways to close down attacking threats. A new AI system has also been implemented and results in more sophisticated and intuitive movement from team mates according to the player’s commands.

Mobile Version

Konami’s mobile version of PES 2009 will be released alongside the home versions in Autumn. Following the success of the mobile version of PES 2008, the new edition now features multi-player capabilities via Bluetooth. The game also refines the one-button control system of last year’s game and features enhanced goalkeeper AI.

Gameplay

Gameplay has been improved for Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, with key additions such as an improved Teamvision system, with tactics changing according to situation, better off-the-ball movement such as running to receive passes, etc and the AI recognizing strategies that work and it accumulates data on an ongoing basis within Master League and League modes. Another new addition is the readjustments for ball movements, and PES 2009 has new air resistance calculations for the trajectory of the ball. The heaviness of the ground also impacts the gameplay. There will also be new friction routines to affect ball movement in terms of ground conditions, backspin routines are calculated so that ball slows accordingly, and the bounce of the ball can be used more effectively: players can flick the ball up to tee a shot, or to lift it over a defender’s trailing leg. Skills are now integrated more into the game. If a player has the ability, they will be able to perform deft turns. There will also be adjusted controls to make close control more intuitive. All new Manual Passing and there is no slowdown in replays or matches.

Graphics

Visuals are also improved in PES 2009. There will be graphic depictions of weather conditions unique to each stadium, much more detailed lighting effects that mimic the time of day more closely, and all new player models in game. More stadia and animations are added, including distinctive moves (such as Cristiano Ronaldo's open legged stance before a free kick). LED adboards are also set to make its debut on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3 versions. New camera angles are also in PES 2009 and a new, clearer menu system.

National Teams

The licenced national teams in the game are expected to remain the same as PES2008, but with rumours of Germany, Russia, Mexico and Nothern Ireland. The Classic teams are expected to be the same again still including; Classic Netherlands, Classic Germany, Classic England, Classic Italy, Classic France, Classic Argentina and Classic Brazil. The players on each team are the best retired players from each national team and feature players like the legendary Johan Cruijff and Franz Beckenbauer (this time they are rumoured to be already correctly named in the game unlike previous games).
