The Disney Channel Games were annual Olympic-based special miniseries that aired on Disney Channel from 2006–2008. The 2006 Games were filmed in California and produced by 7ATE9 Entertainment.[1] In 2007 and 2008 the Games were filmed at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, Florida. The 2007 Games were produced by Disney Channel,[2] and the 2008 games were produced by Buena Vista Television and Penn/Bright Entertainment.[3]

The Disney Channel Games 2006 were the first annual competitions. They began airing in the US on June 10, 2006, along with the So Hot Summer! 2006. It was later aired in the UK November 3, 2006, Australia on January 5, 2007, in Latin America on February 26, 2007, and in Canada on Family on June 19, 2007.

Concert Performances

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies did not feature any concert performances at the 2006 Games, but both had additional events during the ceremonies.

The Opening Ceremonies premiered on June 10, 2006, and the 1st event was held.

The Closing Ceremonies aired on August 19, 2006. The top 10 favorite moments from the Games were featured. The Blue Team was the declared Winner of the games and was awarded with a trophy, while the other teams were awarded medals for 2nd place and 3rd place.

Disney Channel Games 2007

The Second Annual Disney Channel Games are over as of 25 August 2007. As advertised, these have proven to be the biggest of them all. Hosted at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, stars from other nations' Disney Channels have joined the teams, making room for the new Yellow Team. In addition, each team is playing for a charity (including Boys & Girls Club, UNICEF, Make-a-Wish Foundation and Starlight Starbright Childrens Foundation. Disney also revealed the games becoming environmentally friendly.

Contestants from the first edition who did not return for the second include Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Kay Panabaker, and Anneliese van der Pol. At the time, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron were on vacation in Hawaii.[citation needed] Several new additions from new Disney Channel Original Series, Disney Channel Original Movies, and across the globe have joined the teams, including Maiara Walsh and Jason Dolley of Cory in the House. Each team member did not receive a nickname, although Brenda Song remained a captain, Dylan Sprouse, Kyle Massey, and Corbin Bleu took over for the other teams. Phill Lewis and Brian Stepanek returned as hosts while Cory in the House's Madison Pettis served as a guest judge on one occasion. Several animated characters are also seen in the audience of the games. They include Nancy Cartwright and Grey DeLisle (Todd and Riley), Dante Basco (Jake Long), John DiMaggio (Fu Dog and Dr. Drakken), Christy Carlson Romano (Kim Possible) and cheerleaders, and J.P. Manoux (Kuzco), among several others.

The Winning Team was the "Green Team", and they won the competition and donated the $25,000 to the The Boys and Girls Club Of America. The other three teams were also awarded with $25,000, resulting in all teams donating equal amounts of money to their charity.

The team MVPs for the red team were Earles (twice) and Tisdale. Earles, Musso, Bailon and Song returned to the red team the following year with Song acting as captain again.

There were no team MVPs for the yellow team however, the yellow team is the newest team to the Disney Channel Games. Massey, Bryan, and Guasch returned to the yellow team the following year but with Massey not acting as Captain.

Concert Performances

The opening ceremonies for the 2007 Games premiered on June 15, 2007 with concert performances by Corbin Bleu and Hannah Montana.

The closing ceremonies aired on August 25, 2007 with concert performances by The Cheetah Girls, The Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus, performing as herself and not as Hannah Montana for the first time.

The 2008 Disney Channel Games took place in Summer 2008. This Dc games also had a sweepstake entry for a trip to the games the winners were John Azo of Washington and Joshua Mcpherson of Newark The games were held July 27 through August 30, 2008. The Disney Channel games had two extra host Cody Linley and Meaghan Jette Martin. Unlike the previous two games, the 2008 edition of the games only featured 5 events and online hosts. Cole & Dylan Sprouse missed the first episode as they "missed" the Bus.

For this edition, thirty-seven Disney Channel stars from around the world convened at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for "Disney Channel Games," featuring relay races, obstacle courses and other events in five special half-hour telecasts, "Disney Channel Games," were presented each week beginning Sunday, July 27 (8:00 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel. and was hosted by Brian Stepanek ("The Suite Life of Zack & Cody"). The special telecasts closed with a post-Games concert featuring performances by Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, the Cheetah Girls, Demi Lovato and Jordan Pruitt.

The event was filmed at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and benefits four children's charities: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, UNICEF and Boys & Girls Club of America.

Each of the five subsequent "Disney Channel Games" 2008 special telecasts were presented Saturdays (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) through August 30. The 27 Disney Channels worldwide aired the five special telecasts thereafter with local Disney Channel stars hosting their country's telecast.

The "Inside Track," exclusively on www.disneychannelgames.com, hosted by Meaghan Jette Martin ("Camp Rock") and Cody Linley ("Hannah Montana"), goes behind the scenes of "Disney Channel Games" 2008. DisneyChannel.com users can vote for their favorite players and dive into the action via online versions of the "Disney Channel Games" seen each week. In The End, with the announcement made by Miley Cyrus during the final closing ceremony, it was Team inferno that won the Disney Channel Games Cup.

Teams

These are the teams for the 2008 Disney Channel Games. The 2008 Disney Channel Games also featured competitors from Disney Channels around the world. Those not from the US Disney Channel have their originating country next to their name.
Each team has a theme song, all of which are used emphatically in the Baby Face-Off.

  • Brenda Song is so far the only Disney Channel star up until this point to have been a captain for the DC Games every single year for the past 3 years. Also she's been the captain for the Red Team two years in a row.
  • Cole Sprouse is the only Disney Channel star to return to the same team all 3 years.
  • Shin Koyamada is the only Disney Channel star to switch teams every year (06 Red, 07 Yellow, 08 Blue).
  • Brenda Song and Jason Earles have been on the same team together every year.
  • The Green Team was the only team that didn't win any competitions this year.
  • This year Phil Lewis was not one of the hosts for this DC Games.
  • The Yellow Team/Comets is the only team to have not won a Disney Channel Games. (Blue 06, Green 07, and Red 08)

2 Hang Tight The Stars lined up in their teams as Dylan and Cole Sprouse arrived and were put into their teams. While linked together, the teams must complete an obstacle course and other challenges. 4 Foos It or Lose It The teams compete in a human foos ball match. A "Tug of Four" competition is held between the Jonas Brothers, The Cheetah Girls and Dylan & Cole Sprouse. This was a sibling rivalry event that took place before the final round of "Foos it or Loose It". This was a four-way tug-of-war challenge in which the Cyclones won. Playing for the Cyclones were Joe Jonas and Dylan Sprouse. Playing for the Comets were captain Kevin Jonas and Sabrina Bryan. Playing for the Inferno were Adrienne Bailon and Nick Jonas. Playing for the Lightning were Cole Sprouse and captain Kiely Williams. The Cyclones won five extra points for their team, a ride in their appropriate chariot (built in the "Chariot of Champions") being pulled by the others and to wear crowns during the ride. Friends for a Change: Project Green

A Disney spokesperson confirmed on February 4, 2009 that the Disney Channel Games will not be held in 2009, but a "new charitable initiative" will be announced soon that will involve the Disney Channel and Disney XD stars. A Disney Channel executive stated earlier that the busy schedule of the stars may make it difficult for the games to be held. Disney Channel stated that the DC Games may return in 2010 but this summer Disney Channel will present Friends for a Change: Project Green More info can be seen at Hal Boedeker's blog. [7]
