I don't think so, HoMM series was sort of like a 4x-lite. Doesn't have the complex micromanagement of empires and diplomacy as other 4X games but it definitely has a lot of traits. Research is done through leveling up (such as getting more powerful spells), and all 4 X's are definitely there. |

On the other hand, I've removed Age of Empire games from the list. They are not a 4X at all, they are pure RTS games. |

I don't think so, HoMM series was sort of like a 4x-lite. Doesn't have the complex micromanagement of empires and diplomacy as other 4X games but it definitely has a lot of traits. Research is done through leveling up (such as getting more powerful spells), and all 4 X's are definitely there.
On the other hand, I've removed Age of Empire games from the list. They are not a 4X at all, they are pure RTS games.
