Big welcome to the article rescue squadron

Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

Hi, FeydHuxtable, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 19:26, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome! Im impressed with how you guys operate. ARS seems to be the place to be and to be seen at :-) FeydHuxtable (talk) 10:39, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keynes

That would be great. I'ld love to co-nom. I'm going to put in more work into the article to justify the co-nomination. LK (talk) 14:19, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one. Keynes is too big a topic for one person. FeydHuxtable (talk) 14:34, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Care to look in?

I am considering going live with User:MichaelQSchmidt/sandbox/National Fibromyalgia Association. I'm feeling pretty good about 10 hours of work. Please take a look and advise of any concerns. Thank you, MichaelQSchmidt (talk) 07:53, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. The image is exactly what it needed! I am giving in some minor tweaks, but will take it live in a few hours. MichaelQSchmidt (talk) 11:07, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, will look at it next time im on and do any minor edits , im suprised we didnt already have an entry on the org. FeydHuxtable (talk) 11:10, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful to have such valiant wikipedians on wikipedia

The Article Rescue Barnstar
The Rescue Barnstar is awarded to people who rescue articles from deletion.

This Resuce Barnstar is awarded to FeydHuxtable, for his noble and valiant work in saving other editors contributions from deletion.Ikip (talk) 20:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the month I was not editing, I was still watching, and I continued to see your incredible hard work on articles which were threatened for deletion. Thank you.

I am proud to have invited you to WP:ARS. So many of the editors we invite are new editors who get frustrated and leave. I am glad to see someone has remained and become a strong advocate for editors contributions. Ikip (talk) 20:05, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much! FeydHuxtable (talk) 17:32, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keynes

I reviewed the John Maynard Keynes article and placed it on hold. There is some work to be done before it is listed as a good article, but nothing insurmountable. Thanks for the opportunity to read such a compelling article. Protonk (talk) 22:32, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, it was a very thorough review. FeydHuxtable (talk) 17:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I still think that the resurgence section is too skewed toward Keynesians to have neutrality tag removed. However, since I didn't manage to make time to work on issues it has, I feel that it would be unfair towards you and LK to keep insisting on the tag. So if you remove it, I won't reinsert it. -- Vision Thing -- 19:25, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, don't do that just on account of it being at GAN. Like I said in the review, the first paragraph is really well done, but the second is oddly focused. The section itself could do with some more back/forth academic and journalistic sources on Keynes in 2008. I know there are a few papers from (forgive the generalization) treasury view economists who disagree strongly w/ the Keynsian prescription. For my money, the second paragraph could focus less on international coordination and more on discussion of stimulus package vis Keynes. If that can be done without ballooning the article, then it will be a clear improvement. Protonk (talk) 19:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I thank you for your thoughtful comments. The candidate claimed he removed the userbox not because he felt persecuted or because he was renouncing his atheism, but because he realized it was a poor choice to display it. I hope and believe that his claim was sincere. Keepscases (talk) 15:11, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. While we're on the subject, the Dawkins rap is extremely LOLish if you havent watched it yet :-) FeydHuxtable (talk) 19:57, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How are you doing in your wikilife?

Everything okay? Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Or any articles you need help with developing etc. Ikip (talk) 23:55, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all is good thanks, allthough they are making me work to get John Maynard Keynes ranked as a feautured article! If by any chance you know of any relevent public domain images that would be very helpful, but please dont go out of your way to find them. Hope you're well to, and likewise let me know if I can be of any assistance. FeydHuxtable (talk) 19:57, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Keynes. One of my heroes. No wonder we get along so well. ;-}
Off the top of my head, no, I do not know of any public domain images, have you maybe checked archive.org?
Also remember, ever photo every piece of intellectual property before I believe 1921 is public works. So if you find a picture of him before 1921, ANYWHERE, it is public domain. Ikip (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, yep i think its 1923 now, im planning to visit the British Libary at some point. FeydHuxtable (talk) 16:45, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vodafone and commons

What does it say, exactly? I wonder if it has anything to do with this. Protonk (talk) 21:31, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Something like " You are trying to access a site restricted by Vodafone content protection". I guess its as my account is prepay so they dont know im of age and they have commons grey listed for having adult images. Thats not good about a public org kicking up a fuss, Keynes would not be impressed! FeydHuxtable (talk) 21:44, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, Protonk, that is one messed up case. Thanks for letting me know about it. Ikip (talk) 22:20, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for your participation in my recent RfA. I will do my very best not to betray the confidence you have shown me. Short feature for newsletter

Short feature for newsletter? I would love to have something written up. Ikip (talk) 04:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC) Thanks for the AFD and the newsletter update. Ikip (talk) 15:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Article Rescue Squadron/Newsletter/20090901/Feature Maybe you can have a column everytime we have a newsletter :) Ikip (talk) 15:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I pruned your essay. A couple of editors said that they support the idea of a newsletter but they want to avoid controversial subjects which can cause more unwanted drama. You can email me if you would like clarification. feel free to expand your essay. Ikip (talk) 16:19, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, i wasnt sure if it was the sort of thing you were looking for. Its a shame if we have to guard what we say in our own newsletter, but I guess it might be for the best. Im not use how to email you as the "E-mail this user" link doesnt appear on your page, i think it works for me, though i might not be online much to reply over the weekend. Glad you mostly like the essay! :-) FeydHuxtable (talk) 16:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I like all of your essay, the problem is that other editors who are not ARS members will make a huge deal about it. I will fix my email now, and I will email you now too. Ikip (talk) 13:58, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add previous AfD to article talk page?

Can you add a previous AfD "no consensus" to Talk:Argentina–Turkey relations, thanks. Ikip (talk) 05:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image search for J.M. Keynes

Resolved
 – I realized I can do this much more easily than you because I have the book in hand! :) Protonk (talk) 01:07, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey,

I just got a copy of Holroyd's biography of Lytton Strachey, which contains this picure of Grant and Keynes (It's on p 345 of volume 1). Holroyd doesn't claim copyright for the photo (obviously he didn't take it), but the book is published w/ a copyright notice and was printed in England. I don't know if we can prove this was first publication, but if it was, the term extends 50 years from 1967. I think it is still an important image to the article. Would you mind nominating the image for deletion on commons (after downloading it) and either you or I can upload it on wikipedia and offer a fair use rationale? Protonk (talk) 21:13, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for sorting that! FeydHuxtable (talk) 09:29, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the kitten - it was much appreciated even though I found it rather later than you left it. You are one of the people for whom my apology is meant --- Alice (talk) 23:57, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Source needed

Hi FeydHuxtable, I've inquired after your source on Talk:Tactical frivolity#London G2024.22.141.252 (talk) 00:47, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the thanks!

I am glad you were able to double welcome User_talk:WereSpielChequers#Welcome.21 :) I see the squadron not only as a group dedicated to rescuing articles, but rescuing editors too. The more we make wikipedia a hospitable place, the more people will stay and contribute. :)

You maybe interested to know I have closed around 6 AfDs today, working with some of the most unlikely editors. I ask around 12 editors if they wanted to redirect or userfy the pages up for AfD, all but one disagreed thus far :) This is MUCH faster and easier than fighting AfDs. I will leave that to someone else. This is like removing speedy delete tags, except it is a win win for EVERYONE, especially in the case of userfication. In the case of userfication, the creator is happy; the nominator is happy because he feels like he is helping a new user, which he is; and editors have less AFDs to focus on, no matter what the viewpoint; and I am happy :) Ikip (talk) 03:20, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am being discussed at WP:AFD right now, at least I am not being called disruptive again (at least not yet). Can't please everyone I guess :) Ikip (talk) 10:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have always wanted to award this one:

Hello, FeydHuxtable. You have new messages at Nbarth's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Endorsement

Probably best to wait until Ikip has actually written his 'outside view' before endorsing it. Otherwise it could look like you are writing him a blank cheque and intend to endorse whatever he writes.  pablohablo. 12:51, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, good point. FeydHuxtable (talk) 12:58, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You could always add a diff of what you are endorsing. My section will never be done. Example: Endorsing 13:00, 21 September 2009. If you are uncomfortable with this I understand, I just appreciate you taking the time to comment in the RFC. Ikip (talk) 14:03, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ok, I'll likely endorse tommorow. Just going to check out some more of the "evidence" FeydHuxtable (talk) 18:51, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ikip is right, you could endorse it 'as it stands' at any point. However, bearing in mind that this could run for a few weeks, and others are going to come to it and read through, it seems a little unfair to make them trawl through a diff to find out exactly what each endorser is endorsing.  pablohablo. 23:25, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let's hash this out

I'd like to think that you and I are reasonable people. So let's work this out here, not in the glare of the RfC talk page. Protonk (talk) 22:35, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was my impression you're a reasonable person, in fact so much so that up and till yesterday you'd be in my top 5 reasons why im pround to be a wikipedian. Im going to try to send you an email. FeydHuxtable (talk) 22:40, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Whatever venue is most appropriate for you. Protonk (talk) 22:43, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Replied. Protonk (talk) 23:42, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks and false evidence

In this RFC A Nobody is accused of incivility, and the only incivility listed is this edit[1] in which Lar, Protonk, and MBisanz, falsely claim that A Nobody is "Calling other editors ludicrous" these 3 editors dishonestly refuse to fix this mischaracterization.

Whereas the repeated personal attacks and incivility by editors such as Cameron Scott and Edg are much worse. Calling editors shit eaters, etc.

Then there are the personal attacks in the RFC itself. [A Nobody] "doesn't see his opponents as human beings"[2] A Nobody is "paranoid", "dangerous". I am a DICK because I brought up Joe Chill's own sockpuppeting, etc.

As you email with Protonk, keep in mind Protonk's own personal attacks, his false evidence, and his repeated refusal to remove those personal attacks and false evidence. Ikip (talk) 17:28, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

we're not emailing anymore Ikip, we had a brief exchange but not for two days now. I 100% agree the conduct by some of Anobodys foes was much worse. FeydHuxtable (talk) 17:43, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching with Tools

I noticed that you drew up a draft proposal a little while ago about reforming the Rfa process. I have been trying to campaign for a similar reform and am impressed with the depth of your explanatory essay. I also noticed that beyond actually creating the proposal there really has been no real activity on it otherwise. I was wondering whether you would be willing to take it up again and bring it to the pump. I really think it could be a effective way in which to decide whether certain users have what it takes to be trustworthy admins. Go ahead and leave me a message and I will get back to you shortly. - Regards, Gaelen S.Talk Contribs 05:06, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
