Halo: Reach is an upcoming first-person shooter[2] video game for the Xbox 360. It is part of the Halo series, and it is scheduled for release during Fall 2010. Its world premiere will be held on December 12, 2009 at the Spike Video Game Awards.[3]

Plot

The game is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, taking place during Halo: The Fall of Reach when there are many Spartan-IIs still in action, though it is currently unknown how closely it will tie into the novels.[4] The announcement trailer shows the colony Reach under attack by Covenant battleships orbiting the planet.

Development

Halo: Reach was announced on June 8, 2009, at the Microsoft E3 2009 press conference.[5] A trailer was shown and details were released including setting and timeline. It was announced that an invitation to the open multiplayer beta of the game will be available in Halo 3: ODST.[6] Reach will be the last Halo game developed by original Halo developer Bungie. Future Halo games will be overseen by Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries.[7]

Leak

On November 5, 2009, several video game websites reported that several fuzzy screenshots, supposedly from Reach, were leaked on the Major League Gaming forums. These screenshots allegedly showed a new needle-firing carbine, a 12-round rifle, and a new HUD showing the names and current health of squad mates. Microsoft, owner of the Halo IP, declined to comment.[8]
