Poppycock - Anglicized form of the Dutch pappekak,[1] which literally means soft dung or diarrhea (from Dutch pap pap + kak dung) - is an interjection meaning "nonsense" or "balderdash".

Poppycock is also a brand of candied popcorn. Though it is marketed in a variety of combinations, the original mixture consists of clusters of popcorn, almonds, and pecans covered in a candy glaze. Other specialty combinations include mixtures with emphasis on cashews, chocolate, and pecans.[2]

Poppycock was invented by Arnold Rebane, a confectionary master and research scientist working for the Wander Company in Villa Park Illinois. After working for years on the process of attaching sweet and salt -flavored clear coating onto nuts and subsequently popcorn. Originally Arnold Rebane perfected the process for his own company called the Shoggi Nut and Candy Company of Weeling Illinois in the early Sixties. Beernuts were the first to use the sweet salt coating formula or Arnord Rebane and some credit Rebane for the success of Beernuts as well as Poppycock and Fiddle Faddle.

In 1960, Wander, a Swiss company bought the rights to Poppycock and moved production to their Villa Park, Illinois, facility. In 1991 the Lincoln Snacks Company, now a ConAgra Foods subsidiary, acquired Poppycock.[3]
