"Naturally"
Song

"Naturally" is a song performed by American band Selena Gomez & the Scene on their debut album, Kiss & Tell. It is written by Antonina Armato, Tim James, and Devrim Karaoglu. The song officially impacted U.S. mainstream radio on January 19, 2010[1] The song is an up-tempo electropop song in which the lead singer sings about a guy who is her perfect fit.

"Naturally" is the band's highest charting song to date, charting as high as eighteen, which was in Canada, and also charting in the top thirty in the United States and New Zealand. It was their debut song to impact radio, and also the first to chart on the U.S Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Background

"Naturally" was written by Antonina Armato, Tim James, and Devrim Karaoglu, who have contributed to additional songs on the band's debut album. The song is an up-tempo electropop song with dance beats, in which the song's protagonist sings about a guy who is her perfect fit.[2]

Gomez and the Scene have performed the song on their House of Blues 2010 Tour. They also performed "Naturally" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show,[3][4] Gomez performed in a Las Vegas segment of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.[5] "Falling Down" and "Naturally" were performed at the 2009 Teletón in Mexico.[6]

Critical reception

Pop Justice selected "Naturally" as its' song of the day on February 5, 2010. The site praised the song saying, "It's a cavalcade of cliche but 'Naturally' seems like a boundary-smashing avant garde curiosity when you put it alongside most other Hollywood Records output (ie it's not a dreadful load of old rubbish)."[7]

Music video

The song's music video was filmed November 14, 2009,[2] and premiered on Disney Channel following the December 11, 2009 airing of Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation. The special effects of the video are more complex than that of the band's first single, "Falling Down". Lead singer Gomez said, "The video is very different from any other video that I've done," and added, "it has a lot more fierce clothes and a lot of fun colors."[2]

Chart performance

After debuting its first week at sixty-five on Billboard U.S. Hot Digital Songs,[8] holiday sales for the single subsequently pushed the song to jump to thirty-four.[8] These digital sales made the song the hot shot debut on the Hot 100, as it debuted at thirty-nine on the week labeled January 09, 2010,[8] eventually rising to twenty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and eighteen on the Canadian Hot 100.[9] The song was the most added song to mainstream radio on the week of its release.[10][11] On the week labeled February 13, 2009, due to radio impact, the song debuted at forty on the Pop Songs chart, and was the hot shot debut at thirty-nine on the Hot Dance/Club Play Songs chart.[9]

"Naturally" debuted at forty-six on the Australian Singles Chart making it the first single from the band to appear on that chart.[12] The song also made its debut at twenty on the New Zealand Singles Chart,[13] making it the band's first appearance on that chart also.
