Men and Women's Swimming

Gaithersburg High School has had a swimming program since 1970-present. More recently, the team has been known as one of the larger teams amongst other Montgomery County Public Schools. Over the past five years Gaithersburg's Men's swim team has had an overall dual meet record of 17-7 while the Women come in with a record of 12-12. The Men's team has carried out two undefeated dual meet seasons. Of these past five years, the team has been in division III for three years and division II in one.[1] The team has had up to 70 swimmers in the 2007-2008 season. This swim team included all who wanted to swim despite skill level under Coach Jill Milla. Coach Jill Milla advocated strong team spirit and sportsmanship with her athletes at every team practice and competition. However Coach Justin Owen changed this team philosophy and allowed only athletes who were more serious about the sport. Gaithersburg is 1 of 26 high schools in Montgomery County that swim in four different divisions based on how successful a team is. Each division has a number of teams which varies from year to year based on a team's record of the previous season. Gaithersburg's swim season consists of 1 Scrimmage, 6 Dual Meets, 1 Relay Carnival, 1 Divisional Meet, 1 County Meet, and 1 Metro Meet.[2] The only swim meet the team competes in which is not strictly Montgomery County Public Schools is the Metro (Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swim Meet). This meet invites all the Washington Metropolitan area private schools as well as Montgomery County Public Schools.
