The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

    Joint Security Area

Article(s): Joint Security Area, Axe murder incident, Bridge of No Return, Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission

Request: Vectorize. Not complex enough to need a cartographer specifically. Cybercobra (talk) 21:59, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Nevertheless, this is still cartography, so should be requested there. You're more likely to get a response NikNaks93 (talk) 20:26, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary, the Map Workshop is pretty dead. --Cybercobra (talk) 23:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

upload the image to wikipedia please. it comes from 0:24 on this video --92.21.154.109 (talk) 14:38, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Graphist opinion(s):

I doubt this is doable, as Apple does not seem to make its more complex logos available in vector format (for example at http://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/) and manual tracing is pretty much out of the question. —Quibik (talk) 11:08, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Mackensen/Ersatz Yorck line drawings

Article(s): Mackensen class battlecruiser, Ersatz Yorck class battlecruiser, respectively

Request: These are a pair of line drawings I did a few years ago in Paint (I know, I know, but I don't have anything else). Would it be possible to clean them up and svg-ify them? The colors aren't exact or anything, I was just following a textual description, so anything in the ballpark of "dark-ish gray" and "light-ish gray" would be fine. And now that I'm looking at the both of them, I never updated the Ersatz Yorck image with the correct color scheme, so that would need to be done as well. Thanks in advance. Parsecboy (talk) 15:52, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion: You clearly have enough talent, I suggest that you download Inkscape. It is free open-source software, so you don't have any excuse for not having anything but Paint :). --Svgalbertian (talk) 00:22, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Flag Vectorization Request

    Article(s): Samani, Hokkaido

Request: Please vectorize this lossy JPG, this should be pretty simple. Connormah (talk | contribs) 17:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe someone who understands Japanese can find a source which allows to move it to Commons as public domain (applies if the flag was created more than 50 years ago)? Unfortunately most of the text on the Samani website is in image files, so Google translate doesn't do much help Found it, will recreate the flag as public domain from official description --Completefailure (talk) 21:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • I'm concerned about the copyright status, so I'm contacting Dion van Oirschot on Facebook for his POV. Maybe he can supply originals that can be reworked somewhat. --Slashme (talk) 08:50, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dion has kindly allowed them to be used with attribution. I'll get around to it soon. --Slashme (talk) 20:37, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Should be rather trivial to rip them out of the PDF and get his e-mails over to the OTRS guys... Save alot of work recreating them. — raeky (talk | edits) 14:10, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, but is there any chance you could match up the curves at the ends of the letters a bit (e.g. the end of the tail of the 'd')? Thanks! Connormah (talk | contribs) 22:31, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way you can do a version with the original icon? The visibility is way better, I think with the brighter colored icon. Thanks. Connormah (talk | contribs) 22:30, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    Nevermind, I'll do it. Thanks! Connormah (talk | contribs) 22:36, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I found that one too, now, however that is under the LGPL, whereas the globe is trademarked, so I'd rather brighten the current icon up a bit. --Completefailure (talk) 22:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, just saw your last reply, so forget what I just said. --Completefailure (talk) 22:42, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually don't completely forget what I just said, copyright issues are important (although the old icon used the kde icon, too), so I think it should be the tango project icon brightened up. --Completefailure (talk) 23:00, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): Quake (series) and related articles.

Request: It appears that the Quake font is free. That means we can use it to make free Quake logos! So could someone use it to create the logos of the quake series?

I've placed the placeholders. The first bunch is for the quake "Q logos", and the later for the "full logos". It it possible that not all Q logos and all full logos can be made from this font. In which case, just do those that can be made. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 21:15, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
