Revision as of 01:11, 1 July 2010

Today's motto...

Welcome!

Start a new section at the bottom of the page.

Be civil!

Sign with four tildes (~~~~).

I will respond here to comments posted here.

I will respond to other comments on the page where they were left.

Beware! This user's talk page is monitored by talk page watchers. Some of them even talk back.

Wikibreak comments

I will be on wikibreak until 6/27.

  • Urgent queries or requests for help should probably be taken elsewhere.
    • If you have questions about WikiProject Homeschooling, the roll call will end soon after I return. Suggestions for work can be found on the project's talk page.
  • If you have any questions for me, or wish to continue an archived discussion, start a new section to do so and I will take care of it when I get back.
  • To my adoptees: Feel free to post questions here; I will deal with them as soon as I come back, but more likely, my talk page stalkers will be able to answer faster.
  • To my talk page stalkers: As always, feel free to talk here while I'm gone, but it comes at a price - watch my adoptees!

PrincessofLlyr royal court 16:01, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Or we don't talk here and don't watch your adoptees!  :) Have a well earned break: we will field any questions and watch your adoptees. Any articles to watch? --Jubileeclipman 17:08, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still around today, and maybe a little tomorrow, but Monday forward I will not be on at all. Articles: Dj black and the author's talk. (I'm thinking it should be moved, but thought I would tell the author about it first as a courtesy. If they don't respond within a day or two, feel free to move). I think that's about it. You could keep an eye on TypewriterGirl too. She requested adoption from me, but still hasn't responded to my message on her talk. If she replies with something general, that's fine, but if she has any urgent questions, feel free to answer those. Thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 17:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I cleaned up DJ Black a little and have requested clarification and sourcing for some claims. TypewriterGirl looks perfect for WikiProject Home schooling... --Jubileeclipman 21:33, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Then give her an invite. AirplaneProRadioChecklist 00:49, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

She is invited. I am now back from my wikibreak and will be slowly jumping back in. Tps help always welcome. An update on news here would be nice too. See y'all around. PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, stalkers! I could use some feedback

If any stalkers are out there waiting for my adopter to return, could you take a quick look at User:OnePt618/Here's the Deal (Book) before I publish it? Any commentary is welcome! Thanks!!-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 07:23, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My stalkers will probably give you plenty of comments. I think it looks like a great start. Some reception info would be good, but it could be published as a stub/start class article right now. The refs could do with some reformatting - I did one as an example. The retrieved date I left blank as I don't know that. This gives a better example. Great start! PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:22, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, using the {{Cite}} template will be way easier. A good tool is REFLINKS, which you can quickly use to fill in bare links. To manually do it, look at your toolbar. See the cite button? Click it, and you'll see the "templates" drop down menu. Choose the appropriate one, fill out as many fields as possible (title required), and insert. I'll take a look at your page and see what I can do. Airplaneman 16:31, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And what is the title of the book? It's unclear right now. Is it "Don't Touch Me" or "Here's the Deal"? I would think it is the former and not the latter because that is what is in big bold letters on the book cover. Airplaneman 16:35, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the way I read, it's both: Here's the Deal: Don't Touch Me. PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:18, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. I'll fix it accordingly on the draft. OnePt, don't forget to move it to the correct titile when moving it to the mainspace! Airplaneman 18:53, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks to everyone... I finally got around to publishing this. Here's the Deal: Don't Touch Me (Book)-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 05:49, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

One more favor... I'm not quite sure what I did wrong, but I received some vicious harassment on my talk page today. I'm not quite sure how to proceed; any advice is appreciated,... -- φ OnePt618Talk φ 02:09, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I've posted this incident on Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts so further discussion of that issue right here is probably unwarranted.-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 05:21, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it got taken care of over there. I don't really have any comments that haven't already been made. Feel free to post any more questions or comments and keep up the good work! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Figures that I would spark a massive controversy while my adopter is gone! =) Needless to say, if you have any comments on how I could have handled that better, I'm all ears. Welcome back!!-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 05:53, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A large amount of text were duplicated in revision 356735609 and the anon edits in later revisions were only trying to help by removing that. Anyway, since you're on a wikibreak I went ahead and rv'd your rvs. --Kakurady (talk) 01:05, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out. Entirely my fault for not actually looking into the article. Thanks! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tracker Task Force

Actually, I've never read it and I'm pretty highly involved with a bunch of other projects at the moment. However, if you want to notify me when you draft the article, I'll be glad to look over it, copy-edit, etc. Good luck! PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hello! I was wondering how you stuck all your userboxes on the side of your user page. Mine are all over the place. Thanks! --Glimmer721 (talk) 15:04, 26 June 2010 (UTC) ...I was also wondering if you can adopt me because I REALLY need help!! --Glimmer721 (talk) 15:22, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well if you don't mind a talk page stalker's advice, put {{Userboxtop|Userboxes}} on the top of your page and put your userboxes below and {{Userboxbottom}} under your last userbox. It makes this:

Derild4921 15:55, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All right, I've got that done. Thanks!! Okay, since I basically created th articles Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, I've been trying to upload a picture. It's the illustrations on the cover of the UK editions...what do I need to type in in terms of licensing? --Glimmer721 (talk) 22:31, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)File:HPBOOK.jpg is basically what you're trying to do right? If so upload, then copy the coding over, replacing the fields with proper information about the photo, and fair use rationale for the article you're using it in. Brambleclawx 22:36, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like that answered your questions! Yes, I would be glad to adopt you. I think you've been doing great work with the articles from that series (Hunger Games, etc. What is it actually?). I'm just trying to catch up right now, so I'll get back to you about the details of the adoption in the next few days. PrincessofLlyr royal court 23:48, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks!! Let me know about the adoption thing--I just sort of discovered that today, so I don't know how it works. And...the picture is sort of copied off the Scolastic UK website, but it's the same as what's on the cover. I'll see if I can upload it. --Glimmer721 (talk) 02:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back

Hope you had a nice relaxing break --Jubileeclipman 23:58, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Funny how I just mentioned the fact that you'd disappeared. Add Oh, and on User:Brambleclawx/newuserpage, I tried to use those navbox things you use don your userpage, but I couldn't get all the userboxes to fit... any idea how to keep the ubx's and CTable inside?Brambleclawx 23:58, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. But I messed with it a little and did manage to get it spaced so that they aren't overlapping. Not quite as aesthetically pleasing, but readable. I can show you if you want. I'm terrible with tables and such. Oh, and Jubilee, thanks for the welcome back! I did have a very refreshing but slightly exhausting break. Owzat? ;) Set Sail For The Seven Seas 265° 14' 30" NET 17:40, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are brilliant! PrincessofLlyr royal court 18:13, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! Thanks! Brambleclawx 22:40, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All it is really is adding tables and most importantly, cellpadding. Generally, the userboxes are all different sizes so they won't align up nicely. Cell padding gives each cell extra space so that they can align up properly. Where there's a will, there's a way! :) Set Sail For The Seven Seas 348° 42' 0" NET 23:14, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. I need to start learning a bit more coding, especially if I hope to create the ref template I one day hope to write. Brambleclawx 23:18, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ref template? Is that {{reflist}} or something similar? Set Sail For The Seven Seas 351° 29' 45" NET 23:25, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My goal is to one day write a template that would do something like this:

Brambleclawx 21:05, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds really interesting. It definitely got my interest. It's nice to have a challenge like that. The only problem is I might beat you to it now. :) Set Sail For The Seven Seas 348° 4' 30" NET 23:12, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How was your wikibreak slightly exhausting? I thought wikibreaks were to let you rest! AirplaneProRadioChecklist 00:08, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe she climbed the Munros? Brambleclawx: your template looks fantastic! I assume it would only add the ref section if it didn't already exist...? The idea of joining quote and ref is great though and I am surprised no one else has created such a template. BTW, to whom it may concern: it is all kicking off again at WP:PED (and on Jimbo's talkpage). It looks like the camps are starting to polarise... Oh dear --Jubileeclipman 00:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The template does sound like a good idea. I feel like I climbed a few mountains on wikibreak (actually, come to think of it, I did)! It was exhausting because I was on vacation and those are never relaxing. I very seldom take wikibreaks to relax, just catch up on crazy real life stuff. PrincessofLlyr royal court 01:26, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. I think one of these days I'll create a template without looking at the guide just to prove to myself I can.AirplaneProRadioChecklist 01:39, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Creating templates is one of the hardest things you can do on WP. There is so much code that goes into them that they can end up almost impossible to understand from the edit window. Have a look at the coding for Template:Infobox Musical artist sometime! (It is fully protected but if you press "source" you will see the coding...) Editors often add too much coding to templates, actually, in the same way as programmers can end up writing too much code for the applications they are developing. OTOH, the simpler templates are not hard to create: my own User:Jubileeclipman/User carer was based on other templates an uses minimal coding. I'd start with something like that. BTW, WP:PED now Policy and the page fully protected; Slimvirgin has proposed a few tweaks to the wording but the page is now essentially binding. The Policy it describes has always been binding, of course --Jubileeclipman 08:28, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What I mean for my template to do, is for both of those refs to generate [1], and link down to the {{|tl|reflist}}, and in the ref list, the page numbers would link to the appropriate reference, ie., 21 would link to sentence one, 55-60 would link to sentence two. It would come in especially handy on pages where we mainly cite one source, such as novel series character lists. Brambleclawx 14:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I made one here (it's for using on userpages) but I probably wrote the code wrong. You're welcome to check it out anyway and tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it. AirplaneProRadioChecklist 22:37, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got everything right now. Where is BCx's template? I'd like to see it. AirplaneProRadioChecklist 00:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sticking my finger in the DYK

Hello friendly adopter! =)

I've put my toe in the crazy waters of DYK to comment on some of the nominations there. Would you mind having a looksee at my comments at T:TDYK and send me any feedback you might have? Many thanks!-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 06:36, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They look good to me. All of your comments address the issues or !issues and in the style that seems to be common there, so that's great. Good job getting involved in a new department! PrincessofLlyr royal court 13:31, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much m'lady!! =)-- φ OnePt618Talk φ 15:07, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

How do I make the image on The Hunger Games trilogy smaller? --Glimmer721 (talk) 21:10, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I made it smaller for you, but in the coding: [[File:Example.jpg]], add |100px, so [[File:Example.jpg|100px]], which would make it 100px. You can change the number to resize the picture. I've reduced the picture you mentioned to 250px, feel free to adjust it as necessary. Brambleclawx 21:25, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it looks great!! --Glimmer721 (talk) 00:11, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
