"Bad Reputation"
Song

"Bad Reputation" is a rock song performed by Joan Jett and first released on her debut album titled Joan Jett in 1980.

Features

It was the theme song for the short-lived yet critically acclaimed television show Freaks and Geeks, as well as hit show American Chopper. It was also featured in the music video games Rock Band 2, Rock Band for iPhone OS, Rock Revolution and Band Hero as a playable track. It has been featured in films such as Shrek, 10 Things I Hate About You, Baby Mama, Bad News Bears and Kick-Ass.

Accolades

In 2009 it was named the 29th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.[1] The highest song by a female on the list.

Video

The video, directed by David Mallet, is a re-enactment of 23 record labels rejecting Joan Jett's first solo album and her subsequent rise to the top of the charts with "I Love Rock 'n Roll". Kenny Laguna, cofounder of Blackheart Records, makes a cameo as the Warner Brothers executive.[2]

Covers

Miley Cyrus covered the song in her 2009-2010 WonderWorld international tour and in several other live performances since then.

The song was covered by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne on her The Best Damn Tour. It is played during a montage video with scenes of Lavigne's previous music videos. She has recorded her cover for her Deluxe Edition of her fourth studio album Goodbye Lullaby.

Surf band Los Straitjackets covered the song on their Play Favourites album, released on 2004.

The band Halfcocked also made their own version of the song, which was featured in the movie Shrek.

It was also covered by post-hardcore band Senses Fail.

The song was also covered by the punk band The Dollyrots, who are currently signed to Jett's record label, Blackheart Records.

Electroclash musician Peaches samples "Bad Reputation" in her song "I don't give a...." from her album Fatherfucker.

The Hit Girls covered this song for the 2010 movie Kick-Ass.

The song can be heard in the 2010 comedy film Easy A when Emma Stone's character started to rip all of her clothes.
