I agree, as much as I like yellow, there is a lot of it on this page. Maybe some greens and blues would be more pleasing to the eyes? (~JEK~)

A society is a group of people who form a distinct society

This needs to be changed, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.193.166.29 (talk) 22:14, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category box reorganized

Visit [John Skelton Associate]link title for all advise?

Also, who defined the word "society" here? Where's the reference? Lucidish 23:54, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The introduction was copied from the society article.--cj | talk 09:16, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. Lucidish 19:30, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep thats true, by Les Freeman

The history portal has a good organization of categories. I agree with the comment above. The table of categories is not well organized and hard to follow. I reorganized it using the style of the history portal and emergent categories -- more could be added. Vir 18:50, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possible improvements & added: Featured article and list of articles boxes

By continual work on improving content and by drawing on the best features of other portals, this could become one of the best organized, most user friendly and attractive portals on Wikipedia.

I made some additions to this page over the last few days. Comments are in the page version comments. In summary: I saw a featured article box on Portal:Culture. That seems very helpful. So, I added a box with some selected society feature articles. The article links pages are also very helpful resources and could be highlighted more, so I added a small box with several list links. Here are some new layout and content options for this page:

New Design and Content Possibilities:

1. The Portal:Mathematics page has a "Where to start" box. It includes just a few links: a main math article, an areas of math article, a lists link, a help desk ref, and a fb more such links. That seems very helpful and I suggest it be added here.

2. It might be interesting to try out a box that combines categories, lists and glossaries (these last not yet linked on page, except one link at top, with info burried down the page) under a box of "Resources", with box subsections for those three kinds of resources. But, that might be too congested.

3. The "Associated Wikimedia" box at the bottom of Portal:History seems helpful. I think society wikimedia links like those could be added at the page bottom.

4. The Portal:People page has specific tasks in the "Things you can do" box. It might be helpful to choose some of those -- but that means maintaining the info regularly.

Comments? Vir 19:18, 10 February 2006 (UTC) Yeah I think its still awesome..Les Freeman[reply]

Good work. Have a look at the featured portals for more ideas.--cj | talk 04:38, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) I'll look at the featured portals. Hope others dive in... Vir 18:26, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, unfortunately, I don't have time to work on this now. Hope someone takes up work on this key portal thats Les Freeman idea. Vir 22:45, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
i'd suggest removing the "things you can do" box until there is any use for it ... it distracts ... (at least it did distract me when looking at the portal) -fin 18:57, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Community

We've started building Portal:Community as a subportal of Portal:Society. What we want to do is provide a topical Community reference about community-related subjects, but some folks think that the effort is somehow redundant to the Wikipedia:Community Portal for Wikipedians.

Community and society are sociologically distinguished as Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft by many academics and the portal system should follow suit in my opinion.

Please vote here to Keep Portal:Community and add it as a subportal or related portal to Portal:Society. Thanks. - CQ 17:02, 13 May 2006 (UTC) By Les Freeman —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lesfreeman (talkcontribs) 11:15, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there!

I don't usually wander to this side of Wikipedia, but thought you might have a use for this BBC Urbanisation Flash "toy" showing population growth worldwide between 1955 and 2005- I'll try and find the right article sometime over the weekend, but won't have time until then as far as I'm aware.

Enjoy!

SOCIETY OF A COUNTRY

I wanna create an article about the society of an specific country for Les Free Man: Perú, but first I need the tittle i'll use on it. Help --Walter Humala |Talk? 17:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)\[reply]

Experts needed

A category for articles that need expert assistance from those with knowledge of Society has been created and articles are being sorted into the category (Category:Pages needing expert attention from the Society Portal). I would like to propose adding a reference to this on the portal page, perhaps in the Things You can Do... section so that those with expertise in Society would be made aware of it and would have a link to it.

Make that Category:Pages needing expert attention from Society experts. --Brad Beattie (talk) 12:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merging

What about merging this portal (or simply move it) to Portal:Sociology? Please tell me what u think. -- Walter Humala Godsave him! (wanna Talk?) 15:17, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

This portal needs alot of fixing/vandal control. Smokizzy 02:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC) Yes that can be a mad idea. Les Freeman —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lesfreeman (talkcontribs) 11:17, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add Stubs and Article Requests to Things You Can Do

One of the things I like about the History portal is that its Things You Can Do section makes it easy to get straight to editing stubs and requests. I am not sure how to set this up for the Society Page. Does anyone know how to do this?

That's a good idea, I'll have a look at changing the format so that stubs and requests are included. --Kaly99 (talk) 19:59, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the articles to a rotation of Featured articles. If anyone has any other Featured society articles they'd like to see on the portal please add them to the portal or post them here so they can be added. --Kaly99 (talk) 21:44, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need for mid market hotels in India

India as a country has huge dearth of Hotel rooms, the recession has hit the industry, however there has been a 70% decline in the new projects which were being constructed in the country. These projects have either been stalled or delayed. One chain of hotels which is still progressing during this phase, happens to be www.lemontreehotels.com. with 10 operating hotels in under 6 years Lemon Tree Hotels have made a mark in the country. The are able to generate 50-60% EBITIDA and the model is b on built to delivering 18% IRR even during a recession. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tarunsathya (talkcontribs) 09:14, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Akhtar Hameed Khan

Hi there. The picture isn't showing up, instead I see part of the code. I clicked edit and removed what looked liked an extra : to the left of the word File. It looked good in Preview, and in the Akhtar Hameed Khan article, but I don't see the picture here on the portal, just the code. I'm now officially in over my head. --Smoggyrob | Talk 20:43, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you're trying to start an article. You should be made aware, however, that Wikipedia does not accept promotional articles. WackyWace talk to me, people 09:32, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WESTERN CULTURE

Today i want to say about western culture influencing our native culture and tradition .
westanisation is important because it brings latest gadgets and also says to live in our own lifestyle without bothering about society —Preceding unsigned comment added by Roopeshrishi (talkcontribs) 08:19, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
