The Kingdom of Tungning was a government that ruled Taiwan between 1661 and 1683. A pro–Ming Dynasty state, it was founded by Koxinga (also known as Zheng Chenggong) after the Ming government in mainland China was overtaken by the Manchu—ruled Qing Dynasty. Koxinga hoped to use the island to train military forces and use it as a base of operations for recapturing the mainland from the Manchus.

The Kingdom of Tungning is also sometimes called the Kingdom of Zheng or the Kingdom of Yanping. Admiral Koxinga called Taiwan Tungtu. It has been called in western histories the Kingdom of Taiwan, and the period of rule is sometimes referred to as the Koxinga dynasty.

History
History of Taiwan

In 1661, Koxinga forced a landing on Luerhmen (), Taiwan. In less than a year, he captured Fort Provintia and besieged Fort Zeelandia; with no external help coming, Frederick Coyett, the Dutch governor negotiated a treaty, where the Dutch surrendered the fortress and left all the goods and property of the Dutch East India Company behind. In return, all Dutch officials, soldiers and civilians left with their personal belongings and supplies back to Batavia (present-day Jakarta, Indonesia), ending the 38 years of Dutch colonial rule on Taiwan. Koxinga proceeded to devote himself to building Taiwan into an effective base for anti–Qing Dynasty activists who wanted to restore the Ming Dynasty to power.

In 1662, at the age of 39, Koxinga died of malaria, although speculations said that he died in a sudden fit of madness upon hearing that his father was executed by the Qing government in Beijing. His son, Zheng Jing, succeeded him as the ruler of Taiwan, with the inherited title of Prince of Yanping.

For the next 19 years, Zheng Jing tried to provide sufficiently for the local inhabitants and reorganize their military forces in Taiwan. Contact with the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty in mainland China through ambassadors was frequent. Under Qing pressure, Zheng Jing struggled to defend Amoy, Quemoy and the Pescadores islands, which he had eventually lost over the years, mainly due to his minuscule forces which were insufficient to defend from Qing forces. When the Revolt of the Three Feudatories broke out between the 1670s and early 1680s, Zheng Jing launched an offensive in Fujian. With the end of the revolt, Zheng suffered a serious defeat. After the defeat, Zheng returned to Taiwan where he indulged in wine and women, dying soon after of illness. Upon his death, his generals and ministers were divided into two factions, each supporting one of his sons as heir. After some internal conflict, Zheng Keshuang, his younger twelve-year-old son, succeeded him as king.

In 1683, after the Battle of Penghu, Zheng Keshuang gave in to the Qing Dynasty's demand of surrender, and his kingdom was incorporated into the Qing Empire as part of Fujian province.

On your request

Hello Yongle the Great/Trương Hoàng Phong. Unfortunately I can't open the file you gave me! And I have never uploaded an image to Wikipedia before, so I'm afraid I can't help you on this one. But you could ask somebody else with a message like this: "Hello. I find this file very interesting [add link], but I don't know how to upload it to Wikimedia. Could you help me, please?" Some users are always happy to help newcomers. I suggest you contact Coppertwig, who has been a great mentor to many Wikipedia editors. Good luck! Madalibi (talk) 02:10, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zhu Gaoxu, Prince of Han

Just a reminder that all articles must be referenced. Thanks, Ironholds (talk) 00:07, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not quite understanding

I received the quest you sent, asking me for help with translation. But where is the site you want me to put the translations at? Since there is already a page about Yongle, why would you want me to translate them? I am confused. You are in control 14:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with the articles created by this editor, but unless a source can be found that a general with this name in English existed I'll have to take it to AfD for a deletion discussion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dougweller (talkcontribs) 06:50, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

November 2009

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Kingdom of Da Zhou. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit. It is also useful when reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Needham and other academic sources use Kingdom of Da Zhou, not Dazhou. As this seems to be the common English name, and you are not using edit summaries, I'll be moving this back and give my sources on the talk page Dougweller (talk) 06:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdom of Da Zhou

When I made the move the first time I gave an explanation in the edit summary. I've made it again and used the talk page to explain why 'Da Zhou' is in accord with our guidelines on naming articles. If you want to move it back, please justify the move on the article talk page.

And please start using edit summaries to explain your edits. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 09:48, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of you at the Administrators' Notice Board (incidents)

As you are continuing to revert my move without discussion and are creating articles such as Factory Guards (factory is normally used to describe a building where things are made, and many of them have guards), and have continued not to use edit summaries or talk pages, I have started a discussion about your actions here. [1]. Or you can click on the link in the notice I'm adding below and scroll down to the section "How do others deal with unresponsive editors".

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Government of the Ming Dynasty. Firstly thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic one which we already have a page - :{article}. Your enthusiasm is fantastic, but unfortunately your article has been nominated for deletion in accordance with our policies. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we'd love for you to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at :{article} - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest this deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article you created (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on Talk:Government of the Ming Dynasty explaining your position, although an administrator may still believe deletion to be necessary. Regardless, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, as doing such often creates unnecessary confusion. If you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Hang in there and try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions.

Unresponsiveness

Further to the above-linked ANI thread, you should be aware that we expect all editors to engage with their peers. This means replying to their concerns, discussing edits when necessary on article- and user-talk pages, using edit-summaries, and generally making it easy for other editors to understand why you've done what you've done. This is absolutely fundamental to the collaborative process of building Wikipedia, and editors who continually fail to communicate in a meaningful way are eventually blocked. EyeSerenetalk 18:03, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your text was a direct copy from the first link. I've improved it and added a reference. Since all the sources seem to call it simply the Zixiao Palace I will be moving it to that title. If you disagree, please discuss it, don't simply revert. I've also turned two articles with virtually no content into redirects to their main articles. Again, I'm asking you either to leave them as they are or ask for an explanation and discuss it. Thanks. (It would also be a good idea for you to create your articles in your user space so that you can add references, it is not a good idea to create unreferenced articles). Dougweller (talk) 12:36, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

Because you haven't responded to the concerns raised above—either here, on the ANI thread, or with individual editors—I've blocked your account for 24 hours in the hopes of getting your attention. This is very much a final chance for you to satisfactorily address the issues other editors have with some of your editing. This revert of a legitimate redirect, again without attempting discussion, indicates you are unwilling to abide by our policies, and the copyright violation pointed out by Dougweller is a very serious matter that could have legal consequences for Wikipedia. As I wrote in my earlier post, building Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, and communication is a non-negotiable foundation of this.

If you would like to contest this block, you can use the unblock template to request an independent review. EyeSerenetalk 18:34, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Increased to indef

Still no response, so in case you simply haven't been online I've increased the block's duration to indefinite to make absolutely sure you can't miss it. EyeSerenetalk 21:55, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:History of the Ming Dynasty has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. daTheisen(talk) 18:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Block evasion

You've been using other accounts to continue editing without addressing the reasons why this one was blocked. Block evasion is a really bad idea if you want to be taken seriously, it's against Wikipedia policy, and needs to stop. All other accounts you create will be blocked on sight and every edit made using them will be removed, unless you start to discuss the issues brought up above. You can use the unblock template or just post to this page. We want to resolve this, but at the moment you are not helping yourself. EyeSerenetalk 12:56, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Prince of Yan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Created by a suspected sockpuppet of blocked User:Yongle the Great

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. _LDS (talk) 05:23, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
