Digimon Xros Wars (デジモンクロスウォーズ, Dejimon Kurosu Wōzu, pronounced "Cross Wars") is the sixth season in the Digimon franchise by Akiyoshi Hongo. It debuted on July 6, 2010 on TV Asahi, making it the first Digimon season in the franchise to not air on Fuji Television. For the first 30 episodes, it aired on Tuesday nights. Beginning with episode 31, the second half of the season, The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdoms (悪のデスジェネラルと七人の王国, Aku no Desu Jeneraru to Nanatsu no Ōkoku), began airing on Sunday mornings.

On 9 July 2010, Toei filed a trademark for Digimon Xros Wars with the US Patent and Trademark Office, registering it under the title Digimon Fusion Battles[1] however no further developments about a possible English adaptation of the series have been revealed.

Production

The show was first publicly revealed in the June 2010 issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine, including the name of the season and brief descriptions of the series and several main characters.[2] The series returned to the style of the first four Digimon seasons, returning to the 6-10 year old demographic and marking the return of the traditional goggles worn by the protagonist, while also paying tribute and homages of other Digimon characters from previous seasons. This season is the first one to be broadcast in widescreen 16:9 and in HD 1080i.

Summary

One day, after finishing basketball practice, Taiki, a 7th grade boy, hears a mysterious melody. When he listens carefully to it, he hears a feeble voice crying out for help. Later, Taiki discovers Shoutmon, a small dragon Digimon, near an alley and a mysterious, legendary Digivice called the Xros Loader appears in front of him. Shoutmon's fading melody is absorbed by the Xros Loader and then Taiki, along with his childhood friend, Akari and fellow classmate, Zenjirou, are dragged into the Digital World. Once there, Taiki discovers that he can use his Xros Loader to have Shoutmon combine with Digimon to assume a stronger form through a process called "DigiXros". Soon after, Taiki and his friends find that they are not the only humans in the Digital World. Kiriha, a youth in the same grade as Taiki and a mysterious girl named Nene both have their own Xros Loaders and command their own armies. Taiki and Shoutmon also encounter the powerful Bagra Army, a group of ruthless Digimon who wish to rule the Digital World.

Arc 1 (1 - 30)

Moved by Shoutmon's sincere wish to become the King of the Digital World in order to bring peace to it, Taiki decides to help Shoutmon and their friends and together, they form their own faction, "Team Xros Heart", and depart to travel through the Digital World, collecting the Code Crowns by themselves. During their travels they meet many friendly Digimon who join their cause and they face the evil minions of the Bagra Army, including the three Head Officers, Tactimon, Lilithmon and Blastmon. They also encounter rival armies Blue Flare, led by Kiriha, and Twilight, secretly led by DarkKnightmon with Nene as a tool in his schemes. After Nene is rescued from DarkKnightmon, who created the Darkness Loader to execute Digi Xros without her help, she and her Digimon companions also join Xros Heart.

After all 108 Code Crowns were claimed, Tactimon manages to steal Taiki and Kiriha's Code Crowns. Though Tactimon is defeated by teamwork by the rival groups, Bagramon arrives and takes the Code Crowns for himself before sending Taiki, Akari, Zenjirouu, Shoutmon and Tactimon to the human world. With Xros Heart's core members disposed of, Bagramon is reunited with his brother DarkKnightmon as he begins his reign over the Digital World. In the real world, Tactimon attempts to wreak havoc before his attempts are thwarted by Taiki and Shoutmon, who uses the power of human emotions to digivolve into OmegaShoutmon, defeating Tactimon and returning to the Digital World with Taiki.

Arc 2: The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdoms (31 - ongoing)

Upon returning to the Digital World, Taiki and Shoutmon learn that Bagramon had it reconstructed into a realm surrounding by Seven Kingdoms, each ruled by a Digimon general with their own Darkness Loaders. Reunited with their Xros Heart allies, Taiki and Nene convince Kiriha to join forces with them and they set to travel together through the Kingdoms to challenge the generals and liberate the Digital World from the Bagra Army's oppression.

The members of Xros Heart eventually realise that the Bagra Army is harnessing the negative energy created from the suffering of the inhabitants of the Digital World to Bagramon's Code Crown to invoke "D5", a day of reckoning, and that among their enemies is Yuu Amano, Nene's younger brother who helps DarkKnightmon willingly under the delusion that the Digital World and its conflicts are all a game.

Manga

There was a manga adaption to Digimon Xros Wars. There were some differences from the manga version and the anime version:

  • The Bagra Army's general in the Green Zone was MachLeomon (who looks like MadLeomon, but armed with daggers) who can also absorb Digimon to become another form. He only did this once when combining with some Drimogemon, the deadly Abyss Truffle, and the Green Zone's Code Crown to become Mushed-Up MachLeomon who launches ScudMissimon as an attack. Due to the effect of the Abyss Truffle, it weakened MadLeomon and was sent flying by Shoutmon x3.
  • In the anime, Dorulumon saves Akari and Cutemon from an Earth-swimming Coelamon. Here, he actually saves Akari and Cutemon from a Rhinomon.
  • Unlike the anime, Lillymon travels with Team Xros Heart following MachLeomon's destruction alongside some Sunflowmon. Also, Team Xros Heart was joined by two Mushroomon guards after they were saved from MachLeomon. Lillymon does join Xros Heart in the anime.
  • In the anime, the next zone after the Green Zone was the Island Zone. Here, it was the Snow Zone where Team Xros Heart has their first encounter with Team Blue Flare, Tactimon, and an OchiMusyamon (a subspecies of Musyamon who later joins up with Team Xros Heart) that knew Dorulumon back when he used to work for Tactimon.
  • Taiki DigiXrosses Ballistamon and Mushroomon to create Ballistamon Mush Cottage (バリスタモン マッシュ コテージ), a cottage for rehabilitation.
  • Nene was shown in the Island Zone where Sparrowmon tells her that he defeated Neptunmon and his Mantaraymon fleet.
  • Baromon is shown as a member of Team Blue Flare.
  • Taiki performs several new DigiXrosses to aid him in battle, including Ballistamon Sextet Launcher (バリスタモン シクステッドランチャー), the DigiXros between Ballistamon and Dorulumon, armed with six powerful cannons. Starmon and five Chibickmon can become the Star Wheel (スターホイール, Sutā Hoeiru) for Shoutmon's usage.
  • When fighting in battle, Zenjirou uses the Chibick Sword (チビックソード, Chibikku Sodo), composed of five Chibickmon as the blade and the red Pickmon as the hilt.
  • In the anime, the third area that Xros Heart visits is the Magma Zone. Here, it was the Sweets Zone where they had their encounter with Bagra Empire's General Weddinmon.

Toys and video games

  • Digimon Xros Loader (デジモンクロスローダー, Dejimon Kurosurōdā): Unlike previous virtual pets, this features a 1.44 inch, 8-bit (256-color) LCD screen and can also be used as an MP3 player, being the first to do so.
    • Digimon Mini (デジモンミニ)
    • Digimon X Arena (デジモンクロスアリーナ, Dejimon Kurosu Arīna)
  • error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)
    • error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)
  • Super Digica Battle (超デジカ大戦, Sūpā Dejika Taisen): It was released alongside the anime. The game uses data cards and a drum controller to effectively DigiXros Digimon and attack their opponent.
  • error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)
