==Technical Issues==
Texmaker has a shortcoming (identified in 2010) where it is overwriting files updated externally (e.g. by SVN) due to not monitoring file changes by third party programmes

This major issue identified in 2010 is not fixed (marked as "will not fix" by the maintainer) and still exists in the current Texmaker release 3.2.2 {{release date|2012|1|12}}</ref>

<ref>[http://code.google.com/p/texmaker/issues/detail?id=65 Issue 65 bug on SVN problem] falsely closed as fixed but the issue still remains in current Texmaker release 3.2.2 {{release date|2012|1|12}}</ref>.
The Texmaker maintainers consider this sync issue as minor and hence as "will not fix". However for many in the academic community who work with external versioning tools such as SVN, GIT, CVS this is a major issue.
The [[TeXstudio]] fork has not this limitation.

Texmaker is a cross-platform open source LaTeX editor with interface similar to Kile. While Kile uses the KDE Platform, Texmaker remains entirely a Qt app.

Features

New projects can be started with a wizard, creating letter, article, etc. formats. Texmaker is capable of inline spell checking. As of January 2011, Texmaker cannot add new words to the dictionary (or ignore a word in spell check). For that capability, TexStudio (a Texmaker fork) can be used. The dictionary file used can be specified by the user. Like most other text editors Texmaker is equipped with a unicode editor to write LaTeX source files with syntax highlighting, undo-redo, search-replace. Some of the LaTeX tags and mathematical symbols can be entered with a mouse.

Another feature of Texmaker is creating tables, tabulars, figure environments etc. with quick wizards.

some other features:

  • Document and section templates
  • LaTeX-related programs can be launched
  • BibTeX database management
  • An outline or "structure view"
  • Logfiles during LaTeX compilation and the ability to "step through" source errors that are discovered by the compiler
  • An integrated LaTeX to HTML conversion tool

TeXstudio is a well-known fork of Texmaker with some differences as depicted in the comparison of TeX editors.
