Alicia debuted for Australia at just 15 years old in August 1997 during the Matildas European Tour.[1] Initially she played as a Striker and scored twice against American Samoa in 2008 during the Oceana World Cup Qualifiers. Since then she has gone on to become one of Australia's most solid midfielder's and has been very successful playing for both Queensland Sting and now Brisbane Roar throughout their domination of the Women's NSL and also the new W-League.

Ferguson has participated in several FIFA Women's World Cups in two different capacities. She was a member of the Australia squad in the United States in 1999[2] and again in China in 2007.[3] She was part of a rotation of studio commentators for ESPN's telecasts of the one in 2011.[4]
