1963 - 1964 – 28 titles
The Warner Bros. Cartoons studio closed down in 1963 due to holdovers such as Chuck Jones, who violated his exclusive contract with Warner Brothers by working as a storyboard director with his wife Dorothy on the feature film Gay Purr-ee in 1962. They fired him when they soon learned that Jones was violating his exclusive contract with the studio by working with Abe Levitow over at United Productions of America. The Speedy Gonzales cartoon, The Mexican Cat Dance, directed by Friz Freleng, was another reason why Warner Bros. Cartoons closed down as the cartoon was officially canceled out of theaters and television due to the unapproved and derivatived stereotyping content of the cartoon. After the studio closed in 1963, new cartoons continued to debut in theaters until 1964. They were co-produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises.
In 1964, beginning with Señorella and the Glass Huarache, all cartoons use the "Abstract WB" titles. Hawley Pratt and Gerry Chiniquy directed three shorts. Chuck Jones didn't direct any shorts, although he was credited as a director in War And Pieces, because he was working on Tom and Jerry shorts for MGM from 1963 through 1967. That cartoon was originally directed by Phil Monroe. Robert McKimson was primarily the only person to direct the "target" title cartoons.
