The article isn't long enough and doesn't have any sections. A simple copy-paste/merge to ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)]]'' under its ''hacks'' section should resolve all controversy. --[[User:DavidHOzAu|DavidHOzAu]] 03:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Robotnik vs. Eggman

Please people can we sort this once and for all? Stop editing Sonic articles and writing Eggman in place of Robotnik. Robotnik is the name by which Eggman was introduced to American and European audiences so that's the name we use on this Wikipedia. Eggman is exclusive to Japan, at least up until Sonic Adventure was released. --Steerpike 19:04, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

But in Sonic Adventure 2 and newer, he is referred to as Eggman almost as often as Tails is called Tails. 68.190.167.252 23:03, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but at the time of the realease of "Sonic the Hedgehog", he was referred to as Robotnik. Therefore, I believe that the article should refer to Robotnik and Robotnik alone, or maybe make only a passing reference to the fact that he was Eggman in Japan and it later became his "nickname" in the US. 168.11.48.175 11:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC) Hobblededee, hobbledehoy[reply]

Sonic "The" Hedgehog

All occurences of "Sonic the Hedgehog" replaced with "Sonic The Hedgehog". Apperantly the "T" in Sonic The Hedgehog is capitalized. It was even registred as Sonic's Middlename by Al Nilsen, Sega's Marketing Guy.
Source: Kent, Steven L.: The Ultimate History of Video Games. From Ponk to Pokémon and Beyond - The Story Behind the Craze That Touched Our Lives and Changed the World. Prima Publishing, Roseville (2001), p. 428.

I don't think "The" should be capitalized. I mean, really, who capitalizes "The" if it's not the start of a sentence/phrase? I certainly don't. --Shadow Hog 15:56, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read my reasoning? It's not a "the" in the sense of a definite article but rather in the sense of Sonic's middlename, as it was apparently meant to be by Sega, since, as I wrote, they registred it as his middle name specifically with the The capitalized, and could only register it becauase that is not common and therefore differentiates it from a "the" as a definite article. I mean, really, who does not capitalize middlenames? I certainly do. ;)
Al Nilsen isn't the definitive source on this, though. Sega themselves are, and they never use it as a middle name. I understand you know what you're talking about, but hardly anyone I know would probably agree that "The" is a valid middle name; that's utterly silly. I think it should be moved back and left as it was. --Shadow Hog 19:16, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
But Sega themselves are still writing the "The" capitalized, e.g. here: http://www.sega.com/games/game_temp.php?game=sonicmegaplus&id=hp_pldwnlst - and I guess Al Nilsen was the definitive source at the time the decision was made because he was speaking for Sega. Why should the Wikipedia entries not follow what has been established by Sega (or someone representing them) and more important is still being used like it today. Even if it is not communicated as Sonic's Middlename (anymore) it apparently is (as it was registered as such and the "The" is still capitalized in Sega's publications). Probably the fact itself should be included in the Wikipedia article.
Regardless of whether the character is called Sonic The Hedgehog or not (he's not), the "the" in the game's title shouldn't be capitalised - it's just convention for titles (see Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones for just one example) and it simply looks wrong compared to the way magazines, comics and books have been doing it for years. On the other hand, there are some idiosyncratic exceptions, so maybe Sega's official statements take priority, no matter how bizarre they seem. :( --Nick R 16:59, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'd just like to point out this Master System cartridge which capitalises "The". It should be capitalised, simply because it's correct. - LeonWhite 07:06, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Move

Somebody moved this article to Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis), despite the above discussion, so I have moved it back again. The 'T' should not be capitalised for the sole reason that most people do not think that it should be. -- Supermorff 20:37, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blast processing

I'm removing the bit about "blast processing" - I believe the term was used to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, not the first Sonic game. [1] --Jtalledo (talk) 16:53, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Box art changed?

Any particular reason why this was changed? Original picture was larger and of higher quality in my opinion. --Steerpike 17:27, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone think this page is ready for a peer review/featured article?

I think this article is really good. If I weren't so lazy I'd probably nominate it for fa or at least to a peer review, I really think it's ready.

Art Deco

Would the graphics in this game be considered Art Deco? --Richy 23:23, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found...

...an odd ROM of this game for the SNES. Cheack it out.

Nothing new really, that's probably the hack of Speedy Gonzales for the SNES. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:00, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some clean up warranted

The level section needs to be trimmed drastically. Nobody is interested in reading about what happens in which act of level X. This has gone well past encyclopedic value. The "Secrets" section confuses me. Is it a section about secrets or about the Beta version? If so, re-arrange the beta version under "Versions" and remove "Secrets" altogether. --Steerpike 19:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic 1 beta page

Hey guys. I made a sonic 1 beta page. Find it here.

It's unnecessary... just include the information on Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)-- SonicAD (talk) 19:10, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will you redirect this thing to this page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sonic_1_beta

Is it posseble to make it redirect here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philip1992 (talkcontribs)

Done. For future reference, instructions on making redirects are at WP:R-- SonicAD (talk) 22:26, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge from Sonic Gaiden

InShaneee suggested that Sonic Gaiden is a "fan-made 'hack', no evidence of notability". To be frank, I sort of agree. The article isn't long enough and doesn't have any sections. A simple copy-paste/merge to Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit) under its hacks section should resolve all controversy. --DavidHOzAu 03:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
