A Game of Thrones

Sansa father Eddard Stark received the arrangement to become Hand of King with Robert Baratheon. She is thrilled to be notified that she will be marrying Prince Joffrey Baratheon because of her long love for him previously. As Joffrey and Sansa are on a walk, the meet Sansa's younger sister Arya who was sword fighting with a peasant Mycah. Joffrey threatened Mycah but Arya steps in to defend him, in result, Arya's direwolf Nymeria jumps in to attack Joffrey leading to a wound. As Arya tells King Robert that Joffrey instigated the conflict, Sansa defends Joffrey, her future husband, by saying that Mycah and Nymeria attacked him. With this information, Joffrey's mother Cersei Lannister calls trial to execute Mycah and Arya's direwolf. In panic, Arya sets Nymeria free and this results in Sansa's dire wolf to take its place. Mycah and Lady are executed.

Sansa's long lasting grudge against Arya strengthens here because of the blame she puts on Arya for the death of Lady. After Eddard discovers the truth of Joffrey's heritage, he tells Sansa that they will be heading back to Winterfell. Sansa tells this to Cersei Lannister, but pleads for her to still marry Joffrey. Cersei begins to plot against Eddard and brand his name as a traitor. He is arrested and Sansa is forced to call him a traitor. Robert Baratheon has been killed by a boar on his hunting journey so Joffrey is now the new king. He executes Eddard Stark putting Sansa in a horrified state. She wants to flee to Winterfell but is forced to marry Joffrey and become queen.

A Clash of Kings

Sansa is still in Kings Landing, she has learned to be loyal to King Joffrey to avoid beatings or sufferings from him. There were some occasions of this, for example the visit to Sansa's fathers head on a stake. Sansa attempts to kill the Joffrey but is stopped by a guard who saw it coming.

At the celebration for Joffrey's name day, a knight named Ser Dontos Hollard was suppose to compete but he was late and too drunk. Joffrey orders him to be executed but Sansa intervenes and pleads to spare his life. In result, Ser Dontos Hollard becomes a fool for the kings entertainment. Tyrion Lannster enters King's Landing and treats Sansa with respect and protects her form the guards that abuse her. Sandor Clegane also called The Hound protects Sansa from being beaten. He saves her life once from a riot in King's Landing.

Stannis Baratheon's army arrives in King's Landing to fight Joffrey for the throne. After the Lannisters victory, Sansa seemed to have "flowered" and is officially a woman. Though Joffrey is now forced to marry Margery Tyrell, he still has the power to sexually act with Sansa. Sansa is informed that she will be marrying the Hand of the King Tyrion Lannister.

A Storm of Swords

Sansa is starting to get close Margaery Tyrell and her grandmother Olenna Redwyne. She often dines with them and Ser Loras who she has affection for. The Tyrells agree to her her go to the Highgarden to marry Willas who is crippled but still very intelligent Tywin Lannister however doesn't want to loose their hostage so he forces Sansa to marry his dwarf son Tyrion Lannister. They quickly get married but have no sexual intercourse because Tyrion is aware that Sansa is mentally hurt from the informing of her brother and mothers deaths at the Red Wedding.

At Margaery and Joffrey's wedding, Joffrey chokes and dies at the feast. Ser Dontos quickly takes Sansa and brings her to Lord Baelish. She is informed that Baelish poisoned Joffrey and killed him with the necklace Ser Dontos had. Lord Baelish has also killed Ser Dontos because he could never be trusted as a drunk. Baelish takes Sansa to the Land of Vale where her aunt Lysa Arryn lives. Sansa is ordered to be called 'Alayne Stone' to keep her cover. Sansa is forced to take care of Robert who she will be marrying when the time comes. Lord Baelish and Sansa share a kiss and because Lysa witnessed it she attempts to murder Sansa. Baelish saves Sansa and pushes Lysa out of the moon door to her death.

A Feast for Crows

Sansa, still hiding as 'Alayne Stone', unofficially takes the place of Lysa as Lady of the Eyrie. She continues her tutelage under Petyr Baelish while the Lords Declarant blockade the Eyrie, who demand that Baelish relinquishes Robert Arryn, and his title of Lord Protector. Lyn Corbray draws his sword during the parlay, and Baelish leverages the breach of etiquette to demand a trial period for his regency. Baelish reveals that Corbray was actually under his service, confirming Sansa's suspicions. Afterwards, Petyr reveals his plans to Sansa of her eventual marriage to the heir to the Vale, Harrold Hardyng, and an eventual plan to reveal her true identity and reclaim Winterfell in her name.
