Shadnagar is a town and assembly constituency in the Mahabubnagar district in Telangana, India.[1] Recently it turned into municipality. Shadnagar also known as Farooqnagar.

Description

Shadnagar has an average elevation of 431 metres (1,414 ft).[2] It is located 48 kilometres (30 mi) from Hyderabad city. As of the 2001 India census,[3] Shadnagar had a population of 37,529. Males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent. Shadnagar has an average literacy rate of 58 percent, lower than the national average of 59.5 percent: male literacy is 67 percent, while female literacy is 49 percent. Thirteen percent of the population is under 6 years of age. The dominant language in the town is Telugu, with Urdu as a second language.

History

Shadnagar was founded between 1869 and 1911 under the sixth Nizam Mahboo Ali Khan. Maharaja Kishan Pershad, prime minister of Hydeabad state at that time, was also an Urdu poet. His pen name was Shad, and the town was named Shad Nagar in his honor. Neighboring to this place was known as Janampet which is now known as Farruq nagar.

Economy

Good transportation, including a nearby airport (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad), a railway station, and NH-7, there are small-scale industries in the Kothur industrial area. The newly-developing industrial area is near Kondurg.
