.5: The Gray Chapter is the upcoming fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot.[1] Scheduled for release in October 2014, it is the first album by the band in 6 years and the first to not feature bassist Paul Gray and drummer Joey Jordison after the former died in 2010 (the title of the album being a reference to his name), and the latter parted ways in 2013.[1] A standard and deluxe edition of the album be released. The deluxe edition will feature two bonus tracks.

Background

The writing process of the record began in late 2013 when guitarist Jim Root sat out Stone Sour's January tour, later announced he was fired, to write music for the album.[2] Corey Taylor described the sound of the album as a cross between Iowa and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). .[3] On February 27, 2014, all of the band's social media outlets were blacked out with no reason given.[4] On July 15, the band began releasing short teasers for the new album for over a 2 week period which turned out to be clips from the official video along with samples from a song entitled The Negative One.[5][6] The song was released on August 1, 2014 and an accompanying video was released on August 5th, 2014. It was directed by Shawn Crahan however did not feature any of the band members[7]

On August 13, 2014 the band revealed the cover art for their official radio single entitled "The Devil in I".[8] and the single premiered on August 24, 2014. [9] Plans for a music video were revealed on August 4, 2014 by Taylor during an interview for BBC Radio 1.[10]
