Development

After the huge success of Kaththi, AR Murugadoss announced a project with Mahesh Babu. However, Mahesh Babu was busy in project Brahmotsavam. Hence, Murugadoss directed the Bollywood film Akira, with lead Sonakshi Sinha, an official remake of Tamil film Mouna Guru (2011).

After finishing Brahmotsavam, Mahesh Babu joined hands with AR. Murugadoss in 2016. AR. Murugadoss discussed the script with several producers because it's the most expensive film in Telugu after Baahubali. The film is being produced by NVR Cinema and Reliance Entertainment.[citation needed]

Casting

S. J. Surya was selected as antagonist for Mahesh Babu. S. J. Surya, who directed Naani with Mahesh Babu as the lead actor, marks his second collaboration. AR. Murugadoss was a former assistant of S. J. Surya in the film Vaali and Kushi. Parineeti Chopra was approached for the film, which she declined citing dates issue.[5][6][7] Later, the role went to Rakul Preet Singh citing date problem. Tamil actor Bharath is signed to play a negative role.[8]

Filming

The film's Principal photography commenced in July 2016.[2] The makers have already wrapped up two schedules. The crew will be heading to Gujarat in last week of November to shoot several crucial scenes. As end of the March 2017, 80% of the film's shoot was completed. Mahesh has done the stunts without a body double by himself.[9] Final stage of filming started at Chennai on 16 May 2017.[10]

Soundtrack

Untitled

The music is composed by Harris Jayaraj who has signed a Telugu film after 7 years. With the project, he also marks his fourth collaboration with AR Murugadoss after Ghajini, 7aum Arivu and Thuppakki and his second with Mahesh Babu, 11 years after Sainikudu.[citation needed]

Release

The film is scheduled for a release [11] in September 2017.[12][13]
