I'm fairly certain there's a flute solo after the second verse, but in the personnel, it does not show any mention of a flute being played, nor does the article itself. So, is there a flute solo, or is that just a synthesizer. If you play the song and listen carefully during the mid-section of the song when the vocals go away for a few, you'll know what I am talking about. |

South Park Cover - Popular culture reference
I was thinking maybe someone include the references made to this song in the new south park season. Also in the latest episode it featured a member berry cover made for the song, even an entire version which I found here: (Redacted) It could fit under popular culture I suppose.
Anyways if someone thinks they can make something out of that Tal.beelen (talk) 20:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Samples
The main problem with this section is editors keep adding content that is either;
- Entirely unsourced. It sounds like there is a sample in the track to them, so that's proof enough.
- Sourced to forum or some other user-generated website. These are not reliable sources and effectively no better than the above.
- Sourced to something that verifies that the song exists, but verifies nothing about it containing a sample of Africa.

Sourcing
Hi, I tried to add the following info to the 'popular culture' section:
- The song was featured on the last episode of season ten of Family Guy. Bonnie and Joe are about to divorce when Peter learns that the song was playing in the strip club where they first met; he and Lois conspire to get them together in the same club with the song playing, which succeeds in rekindling their love.
..but it was deleted as 'unsourced'. Just wondering what source would be appropriate for this? Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.21.174.98 (talk • contribs) 05:47, October 15, 2017 (UTC)
- See WP:Reliable sources. --Elisfkc (talk) 15:35, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Also please consider what significance to the article subject this has. What does it demonstrate/explain to the reader that isn't already in the article? Africa is a well-known song that has been played and mentioned thousands of times across many occasions/places/media. Wikipedia cannot list every appearance or mention of the song anywhere, nor should it. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 20:50, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- I've edited on Wikipedia before, so I'm aware of what 'reliable sources' are, but that doesn't really answer my question: what kind of an acceptable source is going to mention that Africa was played on an episode of Family Guy? Can I just link to YouTube, for example? (I also wonder why it wasn't just tagged with 'citation needed', rather than somewhat imperiously deleted?) As for whether it's worth noting, I would've thought it being the focus of an episode of a pretty massive TV series would fit the bill; otherwise what's the point of a 'popular culture' section in the first place? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.21.174.98 (talk) 05:37, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

Any info on why this is suddenly becoming popular again the last month or two? Was it covered or referenced somewhere?--Metallurgist (talk) 05:12, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- See Toto (band); New greatest hit album and tour. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:39, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Metallurgist: It also recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, plus there's the Weezer cover. — pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 22:33, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- The Weezer cover was a month and a half after this question was asked, so that's not it.
- Promotional efforts for the greatest hits album (2 months before this was asked) and forthcoming tour make sense. - SummerPhDv2.0 01:56, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Weezer
It looks like the Weezer cover has been added and deleted twice from this article. The last time it was sourced with an NPR and a CBS News story! Since it's charting in Billboard, it definitely seems notable for mention on this page, especially given it's unusual social media campaign to get it made. What threshold are the deletors using for notability and sourcing? Hoof Hearted (talk) 15:56, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- Also someone took away the infobox I added. Does anyone object to me putting it back? — pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 22:32, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- The Weezer cover does not merit a separate section, nor is it necessary to create a separate infobox for the version. It sounds exactly like the original and this version is no more unique than tens of other artists and formations. It has barely made it to the Billboard all important Hot 100. In any case, further relevant information, if any, can always be added in the Covers section, where the performance of Weezer is already adequately acknowledged. If more information is needed, please add it there in a lengthier paragraph. Or else, this will become an open invitation to add a handful of other charting versions with their own infoboxes and we will never finish. Leave the hit alone without diluting its impact by inclusion of ordinary covers that have been churned over many years by so many artists and acts. werldwayd (talk) 14:51, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
