Samples
[edit]The main problem with this section is editors keep adding content that is either;
- Entirely unsourced. It sounds like there is a sample in the track to them, so that's proof enough.
- Sourced to forum or some other user-generated website. These are not reliable sources and effectively no better than the above.
- Sourced to something that verifies that the song exists, but verifies nothing about it containing a sample of Africa.

Sourcing
[edit]Hi, I tried to add the following info to the 'popular culture' section:
- The song was featured on the last episode of season ten of Family Guy. Bonnie and Joe are about to divorce when Peter learns that the song was playing in the strip club where they first met; he and Lois conspire to get them together in the same club with the song playing, which succeeds in rekindling their love.
..but it was deleted as 'unsourced'. Just wondering what source would be appropriate for this? Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.21.174.98 (talk • contribs) 05:47, October 15, 2017 (UTC)
- See WP:Reliable sources. --Elisfkc (talk) 15:35, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Also please consider what significance to the article subject this has. What does it demonstrate/explain to the reader that isn't already in the article? Africa is a well-known song that has been played and mentioned thousands of times across many occasions/places/media. Wikipedia cannot list every appearance or mention of the song anywhere, nor should it. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 20:50, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- I've edited on Wikipedia before, so I'm aware of what 'reliable sources' are, but that doesn't really answer my question: what kind of an acceptable source is going to mention that Africa was played on an episode of Family Guy? Can I just link to YouTube, for example? (I also wonder why it wasn't just tagged with 'citation needed', rather than somewhat imperiously deleted?) As for whether it's worth noting, I would've thought it being the focus of an episode of a pretty massive TV series would fit the bill; otherwise what's the point of a 'popular culture' section in the first place? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.21.174.98 (talk) 05:37, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
Flute solo in Toto version?

I'm fairly certain there's a flute solo after the second verse, but in the personnel, it does not show any mention of a flute being played, nor does the article itself. So, is there a flute solo, or is that just a synthesizer. If you play the song and listen carefully during the mid-section of the song when the vocals go away for a few, you'll know what I am talking about. 72.204.52.173 (talk) 17:38, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
