Edureeta (English: Flowing Against) is a 1977 Telugu drama film, produced by Sakhamuri Ramachandra Rao under the Indira Movies banner[3] and directed by V. Madhusudhan Rao.[4] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Vanisri in the lead roles[5] and music composed by Satyam.[6] The film is a remake of the Bengali movie Amanush (1975).[7]
Plot
The story begins in a remote village, Bobbarlanka, adjoining the river Godavari. Inspector Ananda Rao (Jaggayya) is newly posted in that village. After entering the village he comes across various characters. A diabolic person Bhushaiah (Satyanarayana), the president of Bobbarlanka who behaves as a dictator. A kind-hearted person Dharmaiah (Kanta Rao) working as a doctor and his sister Radha (Vanisri), a school teacher. Anand Rao is particularly fascinated by seeing a person, Madhu (N. T. Rama Rao), a drunkard who always lies in a cauldron of misery. Actually, Madhu belongs to a Zamindari family who lost everything and the entire village rewards him as inhuman beast including his love interest Radha. At present, he has a boat for his livelihood, two henchmen Abbulu (Saradhi) & Subbulu (Balakrishna) and a village girl Manga (Jayasudha), who is affectionate towards him. Madhu always stands against the atrocities of Bhushaiah. Once Bhushiaah gives a false complaint against Madhu and Anand Rao "feels his ears" against him without going into the merits of the case. He harshly acts on him and even whips him at the police station. However, he comes to know the story of Madhu through Dr. Dharmaiah. Madhu’s grandfather (Mukkamala) is the Zamindar of the village and Bhushiah used to work as his Diwan. Madhu completes his studies and comes back to the village. He loves Radha and everyone is expecting their marriage. Madhu starts making social service at the village and decides to construct a barrage to protect the village from floods. He asks his grandfather for money for it, but he denies coming into words of Bhushaiah. Next day the money is stolen from their house. Bhushaiah cleverly throws the blame on Madhu and he is sentenced. Bhushaiah also sets another blame that Madhu had made a village girl pregnant; before he could prove his innocence, Bhushaiah kills her and creates it as suicide, which Radha also believes and starts hating Madhu. After completing his prison sentence, Madhu returns to his village when he finds his grandfather is killed by Bhushaiah, created it as natural death and grabbed his entire property. Thereon, Anand Rao embarks on a mission to reform Madhu. Both of them become good friends, Anand Rao takes a promise from Madhu that he will never drink and gets him a contract for building a dam in an adjoining village. A determined Madhu, with his two sidekicks, completes the job commendably. He even wins back the confidence of Radha, whom he saves from drunken streamer operators one night. But the ice is finally broken when the village is endangered by raging flood waters that threaten to breach the dam. All villagers persuade Madhu to take the mantle of saving the village, but he spurns them, blaming them for his misery. Finally, on request by Radha, he relents and saves the dam and the village from havoc. Finally, his honor is restored, as is his love interest. Bhushaiah is arrested for his wrongdoings and the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Madhu & Radha.
