Ana Khouri (born March 5, 1981) is a Brazilian, New-York based jewelry designer and sculptor, committed to using only ethically sourced materials.[1] Her jewelry designs are known amongst celebrities like Madonna, Giovanna Battaglia, Anna Della Russo, Bianca Brandolini, Bar Refaeli, Isabelli Fontana, and Jennifer Lawrence.[2][3][4] Her jewelry making approach is anatomic forms that establish a close connection with the wearer and help them shine.[5] Khouri is inspired by a variety of different styles including Art Nouveau, Art Deco,Contemporary Art, Brazilian '50s and '60s design, Ethnic Silhouettes and Tribal Adornment[6] and is best known for lavish headpieces on celebrities like Alicia Keys and models like Isabeli Fontana.[7]

She is the winner of the 2017 ANDAM Accessory Award.[8][9] She is a member of CFDA and the second contemporary jeweler to garner distinction at Phillips, after Lauren Adriana.[10][11]

Early Life and Education

Ana Khouri was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil[8] and spent her childhood between Sao Paolo and New York. She moved back to New York in 2012. Her father is an engineer.[12]

She studied sculpture at art school and holds a degree in Fine Arts. Khouri studied gemology from the Gemological Institute of America and also studied at Parsons School of Design in New York.[13] She has also completed a course in jewelry design from London's Central Saint Martins.[6][14][15]

Career

Khouri trained as a painter and sculptor before becoming a jewelry designer. Her path to jewelry was an unexpected result when she was finding out new ways to display a student art project and created sculptures, which hung off the bodies of naked art models. The sculptures diverted her to jewelry design.[12] She is one of the early adopters of the ear cuff trend and has also experimented with earrings which extend up and into the ear. Khouri launched her jewelry brand in 2002.[13]

Khouri shows her new work once a year in the City of Lights during the Haute Couture and High Jewelry presentations in July. She has been presenting jewelry collections in Paris since 2014.[12][16]

Her first solo exhibition was held at Phillips, 450 Park Avenue which was open for two days.[9][17][18]

Khouri has worked in collaboration with fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez, contributing pieces to compliment his Spring/Summer '16 collection, and again for Fall/Winter '16.[19][20]
