The Invisible Man is an upcoming 2020 American science fiction horror film written and directed by Leigh Whannell. It is modern adaptation of the novel of the same name by H. G. Wells and the 1933 film adaptation of the same name. The film stars Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge and Harriet Dyer.

Premise

After her abusive ex-boyfriend commits suicide, naive widow Cecilia begins to rebuild her life for the better. However, her sense of reality is put into question when she begins to suspect her former boyfriend is not actually dead as she had thought.

Cast

Production

Development of a new Invisible Man film began as early as 2007, when David S. Goyer was hired to write the screenplay.[1] Goyer remained attached to the project as late as 2011 with little to no development on the film announced.[2]

In February 2016, the project was redeveloped to be a part of Universal's shared cinematic universe, intended to consist of their classic monsters. Johnny Depp was cast as the titular role in the film, with Ed Solomon writing the screenplay.[3] However, once The Mummy was released with mixed critical reception and box office returns that were deemed by the studio as less-than-expected, changes were made to the Dark Universe to focus on individual story-telling and less connection from film to film.

In January 2019, Blumhouse Productions was announced to be co-producing the project. Leigh Whannell was hired to write and direct, with Depp no longer involved with the film.[4] In March, Elisabeth Moss entered early negotiations to star as one of the main characters,[5] with official casting the following month.[6] Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge, and Harriet Dyer later joined the cast,[7][8][9] with Oliver Jackson-Cohen cast in the title role.[10]

Filming began on July 16, 2019 at Sydney, Australia.[11]

Release

The film is due to release on March 13, 2020.[12]
