Welcome!

Hello, Just H, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  - CrazyRussian talk/email 14:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How is this place run?

Let's see: everything we write must be from a reputable source like a book or a government website or some such; we must maintain neutral point of view in everything we write, anyone can edit any page other than George W. Bush, which is our most precious article, and use for of these things (~) to sign your name. You already know that, I think. Anything else? There are almost 1000 administrators who can delete, block users, and protect pages. If you need help figuring something out, ask - {{helpme}} - or ask me. See ya. - CrazyRussian talk/email 14:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was one earlier. Read Wikipedia:Administrators - CrazyRussian talk/email 14:43, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The short answer is that Wikipedia, like many wikis, is run by consensus. :-) Kim Bruning 15:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We call them cabals. They tend to balance each other out though. Apparently the structure is common enough that it shows up on organisation culture surveys. Kim Bruning 10:50, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your support on my recent Request for Adminship. The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns raised by the opposing !voters before running again. If you have any feedback for me, please don't hesitate to leave it at my talk page. Thanks!

The Halo's RfA

Fair use image use

Please do not add fair use tagged images to templates as you did here and here. Per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, the use of fair use tagged images on templates is proscribed. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 16:32, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for voting

File:In-the-dark.jpg

Thank you for voting in my RfA which at 51/20/6 unfortunately did not achieve consensus. In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. It was extremely humbling to see the large number of support votes, and the number of oppose votes and comments will help me to become stronger. I hope to run again for adminship soon. Thank you all once more. Wikiwoohoo 19:52, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's very hard to say. You are just beginning, and have much potential. Keep it up, and once you have 3000-4000+ edits, I suggest you have another edit review, or even try out. RFA is a serious business, and many have strict guidelines. bibliomaniac15 02:05, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It depends. Generally 3000+ is encouraged, although if you have top, high quality edits such as User:Opabinia regalis, who passed RFA with about 2000+ edits, it is possible. bibliomaniac15 05:22, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Thank you for your stub submission. You may wish to note that it is preferable to use a stub template from Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types instead of using simply {{stub}}, if you can.

Thanks! --Vox Causa 23:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Before getting into a revert war, you might want to check out the talk page (and the archives) as to why the Senate Historical Office phrase is in there. It was a compromise that was implemented after a very long argument erupted on the talk page over Mr. Obama's race...I, for one, am not keen on revisiting the issue... Gzkn 07:39, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree with you, I think you'll find a lot of other editors who would not...:) I actually think the whole sentence is rather unnecessary, but eh, I can live with the compromise. Gzkn 07:48, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the argument was about whether it was okay to say "he is the fifth African American Senator in U.S. history and the only African American presently serving in the U.S. Senate" without qualifying with an "according to..." Some objected to this wording because it lacked a qualifying "according to...". The "according to the senate historical office" bit was the compromise that was reached, and the consensus at the talk page indicated it was fine (as opposed to the bare "he is..." version). See the lengthy discussions here. I'm afraid that your edit will just open up a can of worms once more. I'm not going to revert again, but I urge you to reconsider your change and discuss it at the talk page first. Gzkn 08:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If I can jump in... I came over here to say something similar as Gzkn did - I had not seen this exchange here earlier. I did reinstate the consensus wording, and added a note to Talk. I think the whole thing is overblown and unnecessary, but I know how hard it is to reach consensus on anything on wiki, and I want to respect that, especially after I finally took the time to slog through the archives and saw what led to this. So I am more than willing to go along with it - at worst it's a little redundant since the historical office part is in the note, but that's not so serious - at least there was agreement that this was an accurate neutral statement. Honestly, I'm a lot more concerned about the virulent vandalism this page experiences - which your edit was certainly not - than I am about the precise wording of Obama's ethnicity. It's not exactly as if it were in doubt - it's all laid out in the article, he himself describes his background quite clearly - and I have no idea why there is so much fuss here about it. Yup, sometimes it's hard to fathom. Tvoz 16:52, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good enough, IMO, might as well let it be. BTW, i'd like to hook onto an article that I could make into an FA, but I don't know where to start or look. I was wondering if you had any ideas. Just H 19:23, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Regarding FA, here are some places to look:
Have fun, hope this helps :) Quarl (talk) 2006-12-14 19:47Z

Thank You!

Thank you for your input at my RFA, which successfully closed at 58/2/0. I will think about the 10 questions and answers I had, and I hope that I will use the tools constructively and for the benefit of Wikipedia. If you ever need any help, don't be afraid to drop me a line. I'm here to help afterall! ‎Template:Emot -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 00:17, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh! Thanks for catching that. I guess I'm human after all. ^_^ S h a r k f a c e 2 1 7 03:48, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't even remember how I got that. Ask User:Nishkid64. He talked me through it. S h a r k f a c e 2 1 7 03:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not in the band The Shiny Diamonds

In fact, I have never even met them before. I currently live in Paris and they live in Vancouver (my home town). I heard their music for the first time today on their myspace page. I created The Shiny Diamonds controversy page because I firmly believe that it can meet all wikipedia policies and guidelines. It has been covered by CBC Radio One, the Washington Post, and by City News International. My main motivation for getting this one article to stay alive is that I believe that wikipedia should not become the sum of SOME human knowledge. I recently learned that I'm an inclusionist. Because I'm a still learning the proper ways to create articles on Wikipedia, I have probably screwed it all up. I could really use some help from someone like you. Thank you for your help so far.
