Hadiza Aliyu also known as Hadiza Gabon (born 1 June 1989),[1] is a Nigerian professional Actress and filmmaker, she acts in both Hausa and English movies. Hadiza serves as an ambassador for MTN Nigeria and Indomie noodles company, Hadiza was named best actress at 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards, she has also won the 2nd Kannywood/MTN Awards in the year 2014. She presently serves as the founder of HAG Foundation.[citation needed]

Early life and family

Born in Libreville, Republic of Gabon,[2] Hadiza Aliyu is the daughter of Malam Aliyu who is an elder statesman. On her father's side, Hadiza is of Gabonese descent, and on her mother's side, she is of Fulani ancestry from Adamawa State, Nigeria.[3] Hadiza Aliyu attended primary and secondary schools in her birth country[4] where she wrote her A-Level examination with an aspiration to become a lawyer and later chose Law as her favourite degree course. She started her university year as a student, but had to drop out of school due to some issues that trailed her studies. Her education was halted then and that gave her the opportunity to attend a diploma programme in French Language and later became a French-language teacher in a private school.[citation needed]

Hadiza Aliyu joined Kannywood not too long after she arrived in from Gabon to Adamawa State, Nigeria. She moved from Adamawa to Kaduna upon developing interest to join kannywood film industry with her cousin. She had a chance of encounter with Ali Nuhu and sought his assistance to launch her as an actress.[5] Hadiza made her debut in 2009, where she was cast in Artabu, she got break in to kannywood film industry as one of the leading female stars with the help and guidance of Ali Nuhu and later Aminu Shariff.[6]

Hadiza decided to joined Nollywood in 2017, following the footsteps of Ali Nuhu, Sani Musa Danja, Yakubu Muhammed, Maryam Booth and Rahama Sadau.[7] She was featured in her first Nollywood movie beside Mike Ezuruonye, Mike Angel and Emmanuella in film titled Lagos Real Fake Life.[8][9]

Honors and awards

Hadiza Aliyu received several awards and honors including 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards and 2nd Kannywood/MTN Awards in 2014. In recognition of her distinguished career as an actress, Hadiza was awarded an honor in 2013 by the former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. She was also awarded by African Hollywood Awards as Best Actress[11]

Brand Ambassador

In December 2018, Hadiza Aliyu was unveiled by NASCON Allied Plc, a subsidiary of the Dangote Group as Dangote Classic Seasoning's brand ambassador during the official launch of the seasoning product in Kano[20][21][22]

Charitable activities

In 2016, Hadiza founded a charitable organization called HAG Foundation[23] Aimed at improving the lives of ordinary people by way of providing help in the educational and healthcare sectors as well as food security. She became one of the first actress in the history of Kannywood to have offered such a humanitarian help.[citation needed]

In March 2016, she visited an internally displaced persons camps in Kano State where she donated food items, textile materials and other tangible items needed by the camp's inhabitants displaced by the northern Nigerian violence.[24]
