This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Yosoemon (talk | contribs) at 01:00, 1 April 2021 (Vandalism on Honda Aircraft Company Page). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Friendly talk page watchers are appreciated. They may respond to questions on or edits to this page, especially when I am unable to respond quickly or when an additional response to an edit, question or comment would be helpful.

Please put comments or questions on new subjects at the very bottom of the page, use a new section heading, refer to the exact title of an article and sign your message with four tildes. That will help me to see that there is something new on the page and will point me to the right article and person to be concerned with. This will allow me to reply faster. Thank you. New messages, questions, comments: Put at very bottom of page, see text of this section

Please put new messages at the very bottom of the page. Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 08:39, 13 December 2012 (UTC) To clarify, the new item should not be below this message and not below the repeated message after my introductory paragraphs but at the very bottom of the page after every other item on the page. It will help me to understand what you are talking about to add a section heading, identify the article you are concerned with (if your question or comment refers to a specific article), using a link, probably putting the article title in the heading, and sign your edit with four tildes (~~~~) so I know to whom to reply. Keep an eye on this page because I may just reply here if the answer is simple and does not seem to be time sensitive. When I notice an out of order question or comment, I will move it to the bottom of the page and provide a heading if there is none already. Donner60 (talk) 22:32, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User Talk page policies and guidelines

Help:Introduction to talk pages. • Help:Using talk pages. • Excerpts Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#User talk pages: While the purpose of article talk pages is to discuss the content of articles, the purpose of user talk pages is to draw the attention or discuss the edits of a user. Wikipedia is not a social networking site, and all discussion should ultimately be directed solely toward the improvement of the encyclopedia.

Users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred. They may also remove some content in archiving. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. This specifically includes both registered and unregistered users.

There are certain types of notices that users may not remove from their own talk pages, such as declined unblock requests and speedy deletion tags. See Wikipedia:User pages#Removal of comments, notices, and warnings for full details.

User talk pages are subject to the general user page guidelines on handling inappropriate content—see Wikipedia:User pages#Handling inappropriate content.

  • Personal talk page cleanup: On your own user talk page, you may archive threads at your discretion. Simply deleting others' comments on your talk page is permitted, but most editors prefer archiving.

From the section Editing comments, Other's comments in Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines:

  • Fixing format errors that render material difficult to read. In this case, restrict the edits to formatting changes only and preserve the content as much as possible. Examples include fixing indentation levels, removing bullets from discussions that are not consensus polls or requests for comment (RfC), fixing list markup, using <nowiki> and other technical markup to fix code samples, and providing wikilinks if it helps in better navigation.
  • Fixing layout errors: This could include moving a new comment from the top of a page to the bottom, adding a header to a comment not having one, repairing accidental damage by one party to another's comments, correcting unclosed markup tags that mess up the entire page's formatting, accurately replacing HTML table code with a wikitable, etc.
  • Sectioning: If a thread has developed new subjects, it may be desirable to split it into separate discussions with their own headings or subheadings. When a topic is split into two topics, rather than sub-sectioned, it is often useful for there to be a link from the new topic to the original and vice versa. A common way of doing this is noting the change at the [then-]end of the original thread, and adding an unobtrusive note under the new heading, e.g., :<small>This topic was split off from [[#FOOBAR]], above.</small>. Some reformatting may be necessary to maintain the sense of the discussion to date and to preserve attribution. It is essential that splitting does not inadvertently alter the meaning of any comments. very long discussions may also be divided into sub-sections.

Note that it is proper to use <nowiki> and other technical markup to fix code samples. ...............................

Please put messages, questions or comments at the very bottom of the page, i.e. after every other item on the page. If you put them here (immediately before or after this paragraph), I may either not see them or at least not see them very promptly. That will delay any reply from me to you. Please add a section heading, identify the article you are concerned with, and use a link, (if your question or comment refers to a specific article), probably putting the article name in the heading, and sign your edit with four tildes (~~~~) so I know to whom to reply.

Often I will reply on your talk page and may note or summarize that reply on this page. If you do not get a reply on your talk page, check back here. I may put brief replies here, especially if they do not seem urgent. Keep an eye on this page because I may just reply here, especially if the answer seems simple and does not seem to be time sensitive. If you have a user name, I will try to remember to ping you if I just leave a return message here. As far as I know, IP addresses cannot be pinged. When I notice a question or comment that was not placed at the bottom of the page, I will move it to the bottom of the page and provide a heading if there is not already a heading. Donner60 (talk) 22:32, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you put a question or comment on this page but not at the bottom of the page despite the above request, and you can not find it if you check back, I have moved it to the bottom of the page in a new section with an appropriate heading if there was none. If your edit was disruptive, vandalism, uncivil, nonsensical or abusive, and you do not find the edit on this page, it is because I have deleted it. In most such cases, I will also put another warning on your talk page, but will not otherwise reply to it. (I will reply, however, if you then leave a civil and reasonable followup with a legitimate question or comment and some reference or reasonable explanation.) Donner60 (talk) 11:17, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I occasionally get one of these notices. I fix the link or bracket, then delete the message, as the messages state is permissible, instead of further cluttering up these pages. Donner60 (talk) 05:13, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jadon

Hello , I am Vijender Singh Jadon from India. I saw wrong information about my family on Wikipedia and I tried to change it but it got reverted back by you. Jadon's have their kingdom in Karauli...there lives a Royal family to whom you must seek information they have all the authenticitic proof which supports my facts. Vijender Singh Jadon (talk) 04:13, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A person adding content to an article based on personal knowledge or experience is are not a reliable source. The editors and readers do not know who that person is and whether they are telling the truth. Wikipedia cannot take user's word for types of edits which could be joke edits, vandalism, invasions of privacy or simply mistakes. It is especially important to avoid this in biographies of living persons. The edits must have citations. Wikipedia guideline pages also point this out. I have added six quotations from these pages to your talk page and a list of helpful Wikipedia policy and guideline pages. Donner60 (talk) 06:50, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bully

Bully Maguire should me mentioned in the article as it kinda defines the movie overall, especially the iconic dancing scene.

Your edit included "considered to be one of the most famous scenes in film history." Such a claim needs to be backed up by citations not just the assertion of an anonymous user. It is easily questionable as just your personal opinion. Wikipedia:Verifiability; Wikipedia:Citing sources; Help:Footnotes. Donner60 (talk) 05:01, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Eskimo

Hey Donner, I made a change to the Eskimo wiki page to update the etymology section, clarifying that the term was considered offensive to most Alaskan natives, this is included in at least 2 of the sources already provided in the article, I was just clarifying that although the etymological origins of the term have been discredited, the term is still considered offensive. The wording in the section is a little confusing because it makes sound as if the term is not considered offensive. I hope that clarifies things. https://www.uaf.edu/anlc/resources/inuit_or_eskimo.php — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaisyTheSadboi (talkcontribs) 04:04, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Even without your edit, the article contains the following text - with citations - "Regardless, the term still carries a derogatory connotation for many Inuit and Yupik." So your edit, which is added to the sentence before, which defines the term, is unnecessary in any event. If not, I would recommend repeating the references after the first sentence as well to avoid controversy. That seems redundant, however.

A Ballad About Greenwood 04:08, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

I just discovered that my adult autistic daughter has been editing Wikipedia articles. She makes lists from IMDb of animated series and movies with their release dates and memorizes them. When she sees a discrepancy of release dates between IMDb and Wikipedia, she tries to change Wikipedia; or if Wikipedia only has the month and year of release, she tries to add the day. She's tried to make a few edits of content besides dates also. The page User:SummerPhDv2.0/KIDSTVDATES describes her pretty well. I'm glad she's not the only one, but I'm sorry it has become a problem. I've spoken to her about it and she says she won't do it again. Sparkmadley (talk) 06:04, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sparkmadley:. Thanks. I worked on a program for autistic children for some years so I understand. Donner60 (talk) 23:49, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Max Benson

Hi those are all correct edits. Patrick McGrew has been special Ed director since 2013. Please reverse https://www.davisenterprise.com/news/local/school-board-hires-two-principals-special-education-director/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by SpunkersOnTheBeat (talkcontribs) 00:34, 27 January 2021 (UTC) SpunkersOnTheBeat[reply]

The 7 year old reference that you added simply says McGrew was appointed head 5 years earlier; the other recent references do not name McGrew as one of the responsible parties and he should not be included unless he played a part in the 2018 tragedy. I added some helpful Wikipedia guideline and policy pages to your talk page. Although I reverted your additional edit(s), I left no further "warning" messages. This is well over one month old. Your edit has also been reverted by another editor. A brief explanation as well as template explanations were put on your talk page at the time. You provided no references for the changes that you made; no verification of your assertions. Your personal assertion is not a reliable source. It is your responsibility to add references for verification of such serious changes or additions to the article. Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:No original research. A list of links to Wikipedia pages that can be helpful in referencing and learning other format and policy guidelines was left on your talk page. It's A Sin

I don't see what the fuss is about. I corrected a typo: the word 'similarly' was misspelled. Your message implies I need to justify it. Seriously? The two-panel comparison shows the edit clearly. I've never had this kind of feedback and I've edited many articles (and donated annually) since Wikipedia first appeared. This seems heavy-handed. In addition, your instructions on how to add information here are quite sketchy. 08:44, 2 February 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 52.119.113.97 (talk)

I have struck the above message on your talk page because it was a mistake. I see you have re-entered the correct edit. I am not sure why I made this mistake but suspect I was trying to click on an error in the previous (or next?) article that had come up in the feed and somehow misclicked it. I have experience a slight delay in the Huggle feed on a very few occasions and perhaps that happened here. In any event, I am sorry for the mistake. No problem. Wikipedia guidelines and policies are easy enough to learn but are not necessarily obvious to new users. Delta Air Lines Flight 841

In December 2020, I tried to edit this page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Air_Lines_Flight_841, to correct the spelling and home town of a person in the article. The article mentions "Jayme Mays of Macon, Georgia". She is my Aunt. My mother was her sister. Her name has an unusual spelling and it is often misspelled. The correct spelling is "Jamye". Her hometown is Pell City, Alabama. It is not Macon, Georgia. My parents were listed as her emergency contacts at the time of the incident, and they lived in Macon, Georgia (where I was born 3 months before the hijacking described in the article). My Aunt is still alive and lives in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been trying to get the Wikipedia article updated on her behalf. She would like her legacy properly documented. I am attaching a few photos of documents that she sent me yesterday. One is a letter from the Delta President. Another is a letter from the pilot during the incident (even the pilot misspelled her name and in a way that is different from the Wikipedia misspelling). The other photo is the customer service award she received from Delta. My Aunt Jamye was originally overlooked for the service award when others received it in 1972. She was given the award in 1979. Her name is spelled correctly on the award. Please correct the spelling of her name and her home town, or allow me to make those edits.

You can also see from the letter from the pilot that Jamye Mays was held at gunpoint "at all times". That is considerably longer and much more serious than having a hijacker having "cocked his pistol at a stewardess". That fact should be corrected too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meyerjp3 (talkcontribs) 02:02, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have also attached a photo of the flight crew, which includes my Aunt Jamye (4th from left in white sweater). However, I believe that the Associated Press owns the copyright to the photo. Any idea how to get them to release the copyright? I believe it will expire soon because the photo will be over 50 years old in 2022.

Thank you for the information. I left this message on your talk page. "I have just come back online after more than a week off. I have noted your messages on my talk page and since some technical issues concerning copyright are noted, I will reply after taking a little time to review the guidelines rather than answer off the top of my head. Sorry for the delay." I will also go back now and strike my original message because you were in good faith. Donner60 (talk) 01:35, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I added the following to your talk page: The citations, or in effect the references or proof, supporting your changes appear valid but are in unusual form. I suggest that you make the changes and put in the edit summary that the references are provided as photos on the talk page. I would also add a footnote to the article stating that references for this information is from Delta official documents and awards which are shown on the talk page. Then put an item on the talk page where you give the explanation and add the photos as proof. It would be good to find a citation, such as a newspaper article that can be found online, although perhaps the age of the incident would make that more difficult. I cannot guarantee that someone else might come along and ask for a more traditional citation but I think you will avoid further issues by adding the notes that I suggest.
As for the copyright of the picture, I think you will need to get the AP to release the copyright if they in fact have it copyrighted. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. The following is from page 3 of https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ15a.pdf, a government circular on the duration of copyrights. The photo, if copyrighted, would have been created during the period that is the subject of the following paragraph, making the total copyright period 95 years.
"Works originally copyrighted between January 1, 1964, and December 31, 1977. Congress amended the copyright law on June 26, 1992, to automatically renew the copyright in these works and to make renewal registration for them optional. Their copyright term is still divided between a 28-year origi-nal term and a 67-year renewal term, but a renewal registra-tion is not required to secure the renewal copyright. The renewal vests on behalf of the appropriate renewal claimant upon renewal registration or, if there is no renewal registra-tion, on December 31 of the 28th year. For details about the benefits of making a renewal registration, see Circular 15, Renewal of Copyright."
I hope this helps and will allow you to make the changes without issues. Donner60 (talk) 07:59, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking Help

Hello! User Magnolia677 has targeted me and my good faith edit’s. He has continued to revert, delete & in my eyes Vandalize articles that I have had anything to do with. (See, Gary Busey, New Fairfield, CT, Joyce Randolph) Instead of helping the community he has put his own feelings first & decided to attack me passive aggressively through his editing power. I have reached out on his talk to end this by offering him WikiLove to no avail. Hoping you can help. Sincerely Yours, Elvisisalive95 (talk) 19:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have just signed back in after several days offline. I see that the matter has progressed with the intervention of an experienced user. It appears to be concluded. If it had not been, I would have suggested you take your problem to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents or Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring. Before doing that, you would need to think about whether your own editing constitutes edit warring or other unacceptable editing that mya have been pointed out to you. In that case, review the relevant Wikipedia guideline pages first. Donner60 (talk) 01:30, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WrestleMania 17

Hi. I added a remark on the WrestleMania 17 site mentioning the fact that it is widely regarded as one of the greatest WWE events of all time. That is backed by pretty much every PPV site in wrestling -infact it is considered number 1 by pretty much everybody. I thought the wording was fair and appropriate. Craig 66830 (talk) 04:38, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Without a citation of reliable, verifiable, third party sources, it is personal opinion and original research. The reader must be given a way to verify the statement. Otherwise, it could simply be the statement of an anonymous fan who wishes to hype it for some reason. (It happens - frequently.) See Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners; Wikipedia:Verifiability, Help:Getting started; Wikipedia:Introduction; Wikipedia:Simplified ruleset; Wikipedia:Simplified Manual of Style; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources; Wikipedia:Citing sources and Help:Footnotes. I hope you can add one, or better yet at least two, sources to support your edit. Donner60 (talk) 04:46, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

True Justice Episode 9 Season 1 Synposis

Hey dude you deleted my description of episode 9 of Season One of the Steven Seagal TV show True Justice despite the fact that it was accurate. Have you seen the episode in question? What about it was factually inaccurate, and if you did not like my style then perhaps it would be more productive to try and change or update my description rather than taking the easy way out and deleting it. Would love to chat more, and if you has seen the show would love to have you on my podcast The Multicultural Greaser to discuss it.

Vandalism on Honda Aircraft Company Page

Hello, You recently marked an edit of mine on the Honda Aircraft Company page as disruptive. I'd like to ask that you please revisit the page in question, and especially look at the recent edits by user Vegnoveg. As you will see, this user inserted the company Harlow Aerospace into the page, despite the fact that this company appears nowhere in the sources. They have made similar edits to other aircraft related pages that were reverted. As another user had reverted Vegnoveg's edits only to have them changed back, I decided to remove the offending section in question. I'm open to suggestions on better approaches, but I'm not quite sure why you'd mark my change as disruptive, as I was not the user vandalizing the page. Thank you.
