Bundelkhand Expressway is an 296 km long, 4-lane wide (expandable to 6) access controlled expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It will connect Gonda village on NH-35 in Chitrakoot district with Agra–Lucknow Expressway at Kudrail village in Etawah district.[1]

It is proposed to be developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) with a total project value of 14,716 crores (including the land acquisition cost).[2] The project was launched on April 2017 by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.[3]

Route

Bundelkhand Expressway will connect Kudrail village on Agra–Lucknow Expressway in Etawah district with Gonda village on NH-35 in Chitrakoot district. It will pass through 7 districts of Uttar Pradesh i.e. (from north to south) Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda and Chitrakoot.

Construction

The construction work of 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway is divided into 6 packages and awarded to 4 different contractors. Total 4 Railway-over-bridges (ROB), 14 major bridges, 268 minor bridges, 18 flyovers, 6 Toll Plazas, 7 Ramp Plazas and 214 underpasses will be constructed on this expressway.[4] Its construction cost is around 7,766 crores (excluding the cost of Land). Status updates

  • Mar 2017: Yogi Adityanath of BJP became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on 19 March 2017.
  • Apr 2017: CM of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath announces plan to build Bundelkhand Expressway.[9]
  • Aug 2017: Plan announced to connect upcoming Bundelkhand Expressway to Agra–Lucknow Expressway via Bateshwar.[10]
  • Nov 2017: Work related to route survey is started, which will be followed by preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR).[11]
  • Jun 2018: UP Government due to lack of funds requests Central Government to build Bundelkhand Expressway.[12]
  • Nov 2018: UP Government release ₹640 crores for land acquisition. [13]
  • Dec 2018: Land acquisition started. The plan is to complete land acquisition in 2 months. Construction work to start after 80% of the required land is acquired.[14]
  • Feb 2019: Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared, 27% of required land has been acquired.[15]
  • May 2019: 60% of required land has been acquired.[16] Bidding Process to start after Lok Sabha Model Code of Conduct.
  • Jun 2019: 79% of required land has been acquired.[17]
  • July 2019: ₹1,150 crore budget booster for Bundelkhand Expressway.[18]
  • Aug 2019: 90% of required land has been acquired. Construction work to start in October 2019.[19]
  • Oct 2019: Construction work of Expressway is divided into 6 packages. The Government of UP shortlisted 4 private firms for developing the expressway.[20]
  • Jan 2020: The construction work of all 6 packages started by contractors. Pace of construction work going slow in Mahoba district.[21]
  • Feb 2020: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of expressway on 29 February 2020.[22] 95% land is acquired, 2% of soil work completed.[23]
  • Apr 2020: Road construction work which was halted due to Covid-19, resumes in 3 out of 6 packages.[24]
  • Jun 2020: Expressway will pass through 182 villages across 7 districts. 3,483 out of 3,654 Hectares (95.32%) of required land has been acquired till 15 June.[25]
  • Aug 2020: As on 22 August 2020, 14% of construction work completed ahead of schedule.[26]
  • May 2021: 90% of earthwork and 60% of construction work completed. 581 structures completed out of a total of 818 as of 31 May 2021.[27][28]
  • Jun 2021: 92% of earthwork and 65% of construction work completed. 608 structures completed out of a total of 818 as of 28 Jun 2021.[29]
