{{unblock|1=My username is intended to be catchy and humorous. It is neither profane nor obscene, though I grant that those are highly subjective attributes. Nor does it attack another, though I have on occasion unintentially stepped on my cat's tail. I am not trying to impersonate another, do not edit under any other names, and am not aware of anyone else using a similar moniker. I use a nickname only to preserve a degree of anonymity. Regarding my intentions on Wikipedia, I would hope that my contributions to numerous articles make those clear (e.g. Blowout preventer, Roller screw and Helical band actuator.) I enjoy Wikipedia as a resource and try and contribute constuctively where I believe I have a degree of expertise. I do not believe my username violates Wiki policy, blatantly or otherwise, thus the validity of the block is not clear to me. I respectfully request that my account be unblocked. I chose my username from a nickname given to me years ago by a friend as a term of endearment. Prior to yesterday it had never been accused of being capable of causing offense. I find the categorical comparison below by Toddst1 between my username and "child-molestor" to be an unnecessary and inappropriate use of hyperbole. The other comparisons are also exaggerations, which leads me to believe my username is simply being targeted by an administrator exhibiting an excess of zeal. Inclined to grant unblock. Despite my fondness for cats, I do not immediately see how "Catsquisher" is a blatant violation of the username policy. Would appreciate a third opinion. Considering the user's positive contributions, at the very least I think the block should be "reduced" to a {{Uw-ublock}}, allowing the user to be unblocked to file for a username change. I strongly support the user filing a name change. The user is clearly a good contributor and should be allowed to continue editing under a more constructive name. I should have used {{Uw-ublock}} in the first place and have changed it. My apologies for that.

Regarding the appropriateness of the name, do you think dog-eviscerator or pet-maimer would be apropriate? I think these and Catsquisher are in the category of child-molestor or cross-burner and easily "offend other contributors, making harmonious editing difficult". I just saw this and thought - this reminds me of the kinds of (arguably) trivial and downright silly PC things that the Wall Street Journal op-ed people write about at least twice a month. (Sadly, society keeps giving them new material) Anyway, I didn't really read "catsquisher" as "cat squisher" - I just thought it was kind of odd. Anyway, who's to say that it doesn't mean it in the way of "I gave my significant other a good squeeze?" (no offense intended to.. anyone who might take offense for some reason..)

Need more info on your name

I don't believe any explanation will save it from appearing offensive on the surface: editors who interact with each other in the normal course of Wikipedia editing shouldn't have to go searching for an explanation/justification for why a user has chosen an offensive username. Since you won't answer the question, I have to assume you're really not very interested in editing wikipedia. Don't be lecturing us about "good faith" when you've got a username that immediately calls to mind images of cats being stomped on. Hi Catsquisher. Excellent work on Fly system! It needs some tweaks here and there, but overall it's been greatly improved.

You seem to be an especially insightful and objective editor and those qualities are needed in every far corner of Wikipedia. I would like to invite you into one of those corners now and ask for any insights and comments you might offer in this discussion thread about dance terminology. It's possible that I'm being too rigorous, but the ambiguous language used in many dance articles strikes me as problematic. @Radiphus: Please try to remain calm and assume good faith. It looks to me like you are the one engaged in an edit war. You have now reverted changes twice in 24 hours. @Radiphus: Per the red link reference you provided: "Good red links help Wikipedia—they encourage new contributors in useful directions, and remind us that Wikipedia is far from finished." There is nothing in that article that proscribes a red linked image from remaining, quite the contrary. So why would you keep deleting it? —Catsquisher (talk) 18:28, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

@Radiphus: and Catsquisher, I generally agree with Radiphus on this issue, regarding not adding red-linked files to articles (several editors and bots work on the large backlog at Category:Articles with missing files). Catsquisher is trying to work on getting this file and other patent drawings like it restored to Commons and I support that effort. I put a link to the file on Talk:Blowout preventer -- it should be restored to the article when it is restored on Commons or Wikipedia. (I hope that restoration happens.) Thanks to Catsquisher for bringing this important issue up at COMMONS:Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#Please_restore_files_uploaded_by_Catsquisher and COMMONS:Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Reproductions_of_patent_text_and_illustrations. - tucoxn\^talk 16:16, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

@Tucoxn:Thanks for pointing that out. I had contacted numerous users involved in the previous debate (which resulted in the changes to the templates), but they did not chime in this time.
