The result of the discussion was: Textbook WP:NFCC#1 violation, a free version is available: File:Middle of the Road US single back sleeve.png. No prejudice to restoration if the article is significantly expanded to explicitly discuss this image in-depth -FASTILY 08:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- File:Middle of the Road UK single cover.jpeg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Rlendog (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Uploaded File:Pretenders-middle-of-the-road-sire-US.jpg as free to use in 2016, but I haven't tagged the UK cover/sleeve as replaceable or PRODded it. Now I wonder, despite the band being English-American, whether the UK cover is contextually significant and irreplaceable, especially with the US sleeve ineligible for copyright. George Ho (talk) 05:34, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- Keep - The UK version provides a lot more contextual significance than the US cover. Rlendog (talk) 14:27, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- I know the US front cover shows only the band's name. I was planning on using the back cover of the US single as free to use but ineligible for Commons transfer. Depending on the discussion results, that would have replaced either the US front cover (if UK cover is kept) or the UK one (if deleted). --George Ho (talk) 15:13, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

This non-free image is used decoratively in a section of The Aristocats. Despite the claim of "facilitating critical commentary" in the purpose, there is no critical commentary about the image, nor is the image needed to understand anything in that section. - File:Pro-Ukraine protests in Yerevan.webp (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Archives908 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).
There are other free images showing the protests, failed WP:NFCCP#1 219.78.190.39 (talk) 16:54, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Strong Keep - And none which show the ongoing protests from Armenia. The image is minimally used (one article). No other valid reason for its removal. Archives908 (talk) 16:59, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Delete - The image is one of several images in a gallery. The image's removal would not detract from an understanding of the article and its current use is without significant sourced commentary about the image and so fails WP:NFCC#8. With all the free images already there in the article, it fails WP:NFCC#1 as there is nothing in the article that requires an image of the protests in Armenia. -- Whpq (talk) 17:19, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Under normal circumstances I would agree, however, these are on-going protests of a current event which is significant in it of itself. For instance, it is intriguing to see these protests unfold in Russia's "traditional" allies. The image demonstrates the truly global nature of these protests, and cements the fact that they are not just occurring in far-away Western capitals, but also in post-Soviet states. I believe for the reasons mentioned above that the image does maintain significance. Archives908 (talk) 19:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Delete - The issue isn't whether the photo adds contextual understanding of the protests occurring around the world. Rather whether omitting the photo would harm such contextual understanding. Sure, there are protests in Armenia. However, almost every person can already grasp what protests are like around the world and envision protests without non-free images. The protests against the invasion is no exception IMO. Furthermore, a protest in Armenia is (almost) no different from other protests in other countries, despite different languages (and whatever?). Another issue is the image being replaceable. I appreciate the uploader's stance, but I think what the uploader said can also apply to any other free image taken from many countries. BTW, how do Armenians in the home country understand "free content"? George Ho (talk) 20:14, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- The thing is, protests occurring in Russia's "traditional allies" is an interesting phenomena worth highlighting. I agree with you that readers can grasp what protests are generally like around the world. But, that wasn't the point I was trying to make. If you look at the gallery, Armenia is the only country listed which is considered a "Russian ally". The other images, (namely Latvia, Poland, UK, US, and Canada) are of protests from countries which wouldn't classify themselves as a Russian strategic ally. It is almost expected that protests occur within these nations. However, the fact that protests are occurring in the post-soviet space (especially in Armenia), is unique. It demonstrates to readers that these protests are not just occurring in far-flung western capitals, but are also occurring within Russia's traditional "sphere of influence". For that reason, this image does hold merit. There are 4 images of protests from the United States alone, which may be seen as giving WP:UNDUE weight to protests in western nations. I hope you can see the bigger picture here of why this is of value. Regards, Archives908 (talk) 05:47, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- Per WP:NFGALLERY, a non-free image in a gallery "is usually unacceptable" unless exception is "well-justified" and "alternate forms of presentation" are made. In this case, unfortunately, the image is crowded among other photos (most of them free) and presented in smaller sizes. A reader would have difficulties seeing the image clearly and have to see the image in full size to further know what the image actually shows, not just image captions. However, even with the caption, the image shows just protests with a flag in a different language. In other words, I've not yet seen an exception being "well-justified".
I appreciate your efforts to compare
Russia's traditional 'sphere of influence'
with other countries and to avoid potential bias toward western countries. However, I don't know whether trying to avoid potential bias can and should be the article's main goal and also save the image from failing NFCC. From what I see, the article subject is the protests against the invasion, right? Most of the article details protests in Russia; protests in other countries are presented in the basic list format.) There's not enough commentary to support the image you uploaded. (see WP:NFC#CS.) BTW, I wonder whether you know people located in Armenia. That way, they can upload photos in Flickr as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA if they're familiar with it. Right? George Ho (talk) 07:38, 26 February 2022 (UTC)- Thanks George Ho for your constructive feedback! Archives908 (talk) 00:58, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Archives908: You state:
these are on-going protests of a current event
. As an ongoing event, even if a free image does not currently exist, one could be made so it does not staidfy WP:NFCC#1. You also go on to stateprotests occurring in Russia's "traditional allies" is an interesting phenomena worth highlighting
, but that can be done via text and does not need an image to convey that, so it does also does not meet WP:NFCC#1. -- Whpq (talk) 19:01, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
