Peer Review

[edit]

I nominated the University of Texas at Dallas for a peer review. Hopefully we will get some good constructive comments on our page. Here is the UTD peer review page. Keep up the good work. Gig em! ;-) Oldag07 (talk) 04:48, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking forward to see the comments. Hook 'Em Horns!:) Stan9999 (talk) 16:25, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fellow Texas Tech editor Wordbuilder put up a short review. One really good, but highly sought after Aggie editor Karanacs told me she would take a crack at it sometime. Things seem to be going well. Oldag07 (talk) 04:45, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like we are making headway with the edit. Whoosh! :)Stan9999 (talk) 13:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once goal we could shoot for is good article or even better featured article status. BTW, notice which universities are featured articles and which ones are'nt. Gig em! ;-)23:46, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Hmmmmm, I see Texas A&M and Texas Tech but no UT Austin, oh well....Hook 'em Horns!:)Stan9999 (talk) 01:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just created a test page for a notable people section for the UTD page in my sandbox. Like it? Dislike it? I hope to polish it enough to make it public in a few days. Oldag07 (talk) 15:28, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! Go for it.Stan9999 (talk) 22:29, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't feel comfortable posting it until after my finals. Wednesday for me. Oldag07 (talk) 04:02, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We had a late, last minute review. Wikipedia:Peer review/University of Texas at Dallas/archive1 He has some good stuff. Oldag07 (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really am going on my wikibreak until August 16th. Best of luck with everything. It has been fun working with you. Oldag07 (talk) 09:16, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will be glad to take another look, but it will take me a few days. Please note that you posted your comment on an archived talk page - in the future, please make sure to use current talk pages (I saw your post in my watchlist, but I might have missed it otherwise). Thanks! Sorry about posting in the archive, I was looking for the last post on the subject and forgot to return to the current talk page.Stan9999 (talk) 19:28, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a big deal - I figured it was something like that. I caught it, but knew not everyone watches talk archives. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:38, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got a new Wikipedia:Peer review/University of Texas at Dallas/archive2 so I will be working on those items for a bit. I will probably ask you to take another look in a month or so if you have time and don't mind.Stan9999 (talk) 03:27, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have read the first half of the article and can make some comments at the PR if you want. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 12:15, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Article nomination

[edit]

I am going to nominate it. I gave it a through reading. Copyediting is not my strong suit. While the peer reviews that the page undergoes have been great, really, it isn't until a page is nominated as a featured article candidate that the real criticism comes. It probably needs more polish, but honestly, I have banged my head long enough on it. If it doesn't pass, we should get some good feedback, and we will know where to go from there. Here is a link to the nomination page.

Tips for going through these:

  • People personally involved with the page shouldn't vote, but we can address the concerns from the page with comments
  • Definitely place the nomination page on your watchlist
  • Do not WP:CANVAS for votes. Something I have been accused of doing in the past.
  • Don't take criticism personally.
  • It isn't the end of the world if it doesn't pass. At worst, we should get some great feedback. At best, our (well mostly your) efforts should be rewarded.

Oldag07 (talk) 22:56, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good.00:19, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
I just feel good that the page is looking better.Stan9999 (talk) 02:46, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They archived the nomination. It was a bit precocious to nominate it this time, but we got some good feedback. We do need a good copyedit. I guess I could do a more through job then what I did last time. I was surprised how many comments we got against the "The" part of "The University of Texas at Dallas". Oh well. Oldag07 (talk) 04:10, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Oldag07, It was very good as it really improved the article. I think the article looks much better now. I asked Wordbuilder if he might help but he has not responded so I don't think he wants to. Can you archive the talk page except for my last post about the photo?Stan9999 (talk) 04:20, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:UT_Dallas_Love_Jack.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 01:41, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Making Amends

[edit]

I hope you don't think that I'm trying to bug you or anything, but parking really is an issue at UTD and while I read your son goes here, unless you do you really don't know how bad it gets, and I wasn't making an unreferenced rant. We're circling the lots and showing up late to class trying to find a spot and it's getting frustrating.

I've been going to UTD for 8years now and they haven't done much of anything to help the parking situation at UTD and semester by semester it's getting worse. Also, I wasn't just randomly making up a figure when I said the school spent $17000+ on those trees.

That being said, out of respect, I won't edit the page again.

Ironsheik84 (talk) 22:52, 24 February 2011 (UTC)ironshiek84[reply]

Hi Ironsheik84, Sorry, I shouldn't have used the word rant. You were making a valid, good faith edit to the article. Wikipedia requires the article be neutral, unbiased and citing a source for the information. Thanks for bring up the parking issue. I did expanded the wording.Stan9999 (talk) 03:14, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, and thanks for all the work you put into the page.

UT Dallas Seal

[edit]

Hi Stan9999, my name is Czarina. I work for the Office of Communications at UT Dallas.

May I get your help in removing the University Seal from the UT Dallas wiki page? The trademarked seal is reserved for official University correspondence and diplomas only, as outlined here: www.utdallas.edu/brand/logos/seal.

Many thanks for your ongoing support for UT Dallas! Czarina727 (talk) 22:22, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Czarina, Please note the following articles concerning fair use for encyclopedic purposes. "Many images of logos are used on Wikipedia and long standing consensus is that it is acceptable for Wikipedia to use logos belonging to others for encyclopedic purposes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Logos
"Use of the logo in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy, logo guidelines, and fair use under United States copyright law . This is a logo of an organization, item, or event, and is protected by copyright. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, of logos for certain uses involving identification and critical commentary may qualify as fair use under United States copyright law." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:University_of_Texas_at_Dallas_Seal.svg
BTW, I would appreciate any and all help on the UTD article.Stan9999 (talk) 03:40, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Stan,
You're quite right about Wikipedia's guidelines for fair use of logos. However, the University seal--not to be confused with or used in place of our logo--is restricted only to official documents; it is reserved for use by the Office of the President of the University. So we wouldn't want visitors to be confused about the page content's source.
We can use the official UT Dallas logo instead: www.utdallas.edu/brand/logos/utdallaslogo. It is the preferred visual representation of the University.
I'm happy to make the logo change on the wiki article. What I'm really asking is for your agreement not to cancel it and revert back to the University seal. Your understanding and cooperation would be much appreciated! Czarina727 (talk) 15:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Czarina,
In order to avoid any conflict I will change it to the logo. However, I note other schools in the UT System market the seal and it is not just restricted to official documents. Note: UT Austin http://www.universitycoop.com/ePOS/store=108&item_number=56702&form=shared3/gm/detail.html&design=108 Stan9999 (talk) 17:05, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Founders Building-1964.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Founders Building-1964.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Founders Building, University of Texas at Dallas (1964).jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Founders Building, University of Texas at Dallas (1964).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
