Do you think the article is DYKable? --Ghirla -трёп- 10:23, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I am busy at the moment. Could you devise some blurb yourself? Thanks, Ghirla -трёп- 12:27, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for nominating the article and all the hard work with DYK. One request: I would have liked to have know the article had been nominated prior to receiving notiification that it was already appearing in DYK. If you had done so, the article would have been put through a rigorous second draft to make sure it was correct in every way and I could have had some input in the wording of the extracted fact. Thanks again.--Fuhghettaboutit 19:30, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Did You Know

Just a quick question, how often is DYK updated? It's obviously more than once a day, but I don't know exactly how often. Based on how logn my article was up, looks liek 3 times a day, but I'm not sure. Thanks for putting my article on the front page, BTW. --Wizardman 06:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:Horsfieldstarsius.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Horsfieldstarsius.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I'm quite pleased that one of my pictures has been chosen for the main page. However, the description template template used on Commons doesn't exist here on en:, therefore the description doesn't appear at all. As I'm a simple user, I cannot fix it. Could you please see to it? Jastrow (Λέγετε) 19:11, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi GeeJo, thank you for nominating this article I started Dec. 5 for the DYK column! I want to let you know that the detail you suggested extracting for the blurb (that it was named for abundant wild rice) has been changed since your nomination, as it appears somewhat likely to have been named instead for Henry Rice. (At last edit, I left the wording a bit equivocal in the article.) There's also been a bit added about burial mounds along the creek, if Henry Rice isn't interesting enough for DYK. Thanks for your efforts, and thanks again for noticing and nominating the article. Malepheasant 04:34, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Speedy Delete article "L-5 Sentinel"

Wow - you're quick! In the time that it took for me to finish typing in all the information that I could, you had flagged this article for speedy deletion.... I didn't remove the flag (as you are the one who put it there). What's the proper procedure here?

BTW - I'm not crabbing at you or accusing you of causing any trouble or anything. I'm just a newbie that types slow (and had 2 kids to deal with) trying to help out and figure out what to do and how to do it....

Thanks for the notification

Thanks for the notification that a fact from one of my articles was on Did you know on December 10th, just one thing on DYK it says that 122 people were killed in the fighting, well that was only in the street fighting, the final death toll was 198 because 76 Iraqi army soldiers were executed and their bodies were found weeks later. I sumed up the death toll in the article soo people don't understand it wrong. Thanks again.

Order of nominations to DYK

Hello, GeeJo. Thanks for your hard working making nominations to "Did you know...". I am sure many many people appreciate their new articles being recognized there. Could you possibly try to add your nominations in chronological order? There are perhaps dozens of new nominations by yourself and others being added to earlier dates, which can result in some unfairness. For example today some of your new noms were added to 10 December? I think if you look you'll find that the list of Candidates is all out of whack. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Please reply here (on your talk page not mine). Best wishes.Susanlesch 21:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your reply (but on my talk page). Yes this was in part my error. The instructions do indeed say list by date of creation. I was baffled today and a few other days by what wound up in DYK on the Main Page and when it got there, but thanks anyway, the order in the list of Candidates was not the problem. Best wishes.Susanlesch 21:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for Editing Image:17a-matses-woman.jpg

Thanks for editing this image by cropping the watermark. Unfortunately, User:Descendall deleted a similar image without the same courtesy and thoughtfulness you used. In fact, User:Descendall went on to delete the listing for the MATSES indigenous organization via an AfD and even attacked the founder of MATSES by submitting an AfD for his page. It's wonderful to have someone like yourself preserve images rather than destroy them. Thank you! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Matses (talkcontribs).

  • Incidentally, although Matses refers to the founder of MATSES In the third person, he has acknowledged elsewhere that he is Dan James Pantone - so it is the deletion of his own article to which he is apparently objecting. Guy (Help!) 11:55, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Activism at OWU

Hi GeeJo,

An article that was recently featured for a DYK (that you nominated) has been nominated for a GAR. I support the GAR for the POV that I've seen in the article (or more accurately on the OWU mainpage) that is replicated on this article has POV. The person who approved the GA status of the article is accusing me of implicitly insulting you for my comments that this article. Basically that persons reasoning is "you nominated a page for DYK. It was approved. Prior to your nominating it, I was critical of it's sister page's POV. Thus, my expressing concerns about this articles POV, that you nominated, I am attacking you." As far as I am concerned, it is a ridiculous argument... but I think the person is simply engaging in ad hominem attacks. (Attack me rather than address the criticism.) I would love your input on the GAR as a result. Please see the criticisms that I've identified and outlined on the OWU talk page. thanks. Balloonman 03:14, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Misunderstandings

Yes it is mainly about evolution so far. But if you look on the talk page, it will be drastsically expanded and renamed, probably in not too long. This is just sort of a stub that was removed while we work on two much longer drafts in sandbox forms. Eventually all 3 will be merged, with probably material added from the Creation-evolution controversy article as well. I am not sure we will have enough room even all in one article, to be honest. So, more is coming. --Filll 20:36, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

April fools main page

Hi GeeJo - I've been working to develop guidelines for the April Fools Main Page (AFMP) project. My discussion with Lar about this led me to you. The main page is composed of fixed text and changeable text. EXTERNAL to the main page (and every other wikipedia page) are the fixed text navigation window, search window, toolbox window, and copyright window. Posters to AFMP 2006 and AFMP 2007 suggested changing the text external to the main page as well. The AFMP project should include guidance on how to get approval and cooperation to change these, even if approval for such a change is very remote. I located those responsible for the changeable sections of the mainpage. Could you please let me know who has approval over the fixed text sections of the main page and who has approval over the sections external to the main page. Thanks.-- Jreferee 21:18, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

Campbell's Soup Can Fair Use

I am continuing to revise Campbell's Soup Cans. You may recall your objection [1] [2]. Let me know if I have gotten these close enough for you to clean them up as you had discussed. TonyTheTiger 17:36, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

I am considering FAC2 on Campbell's Soup Cans. Before I do so I was hoping to get an informal opinion from people who previously objected on fair use grounds. I have revised all image pages and captions and would like your opinion on my fair image usage before renominating my article. Please respond at my talk page. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Ylva Johansson Sweden.gov.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ylva Johansson Sweden.gov.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sorting within category

Hello GeeJo,

if you upload any images to Commons and add them to a category like Porn stars, please don't forget to add the proper sorting extensions. This means: Don't just add [[Category:Porn stars]], add [[Category:Porn stars|Scott, Hillary]] (or whatever the person's name is). Regards --Rosenzweig 20:34, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, please DO NOT upload duplicate pictures. Image:Randy Spears, April 2006.JPG is a duplicate of Image:Randy Spears DSC 0009 cropped.JPG, uploaded in April 2006, and Image:Mike Horner, October 2006.JPG is a duplicate of Image:Mike Horner DSC 0004 cropped.JPG, uploaded in October 2006. Please have a look at which pictures are already there, use those and don't upload them again. This will save both you and others a lot of work. --Rosenzweig 21:02, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
