Picture
Can we not find a better pic of him instead of a bad quality picture of him as a character in a film from 13 years ago?
Sexuality
Yeah he's bi, but do we have to phrase it as "openly" bisexual... makes it sound like its some nasty addiction or something, he's just bisexual, not "openly bisexual", imagine if we had on some other profiles that someone was "openly heterosexual".
- I believe that exact statement (openly heterosexual) has previously appeared on the Tom Cruise page. The globetrotter 21:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Where is the documentation that Alan Cumming is a descendant of Utah Governor Alfred Cumming (1802-1873)? On the contrary, Alan's father was Alex Cumming, a forester at nearby Aberfeldy, Scotland, who lived in Dunkeld and worked on the Atholl Estate. Alan the actor and gay atheist grew up here, and it is believed his father's father and grandfather were Scots.

Would you care to defend your inclusion of Antonio Banderas, Michael? There are probably hundreds of actors in the Spy Kids movies. Why list this one? If someone is interested in who else had a role, they will go to the articles on the movies and (hopefully) see a more complete, more interesting list. Tuf-Kat
- What are you talking about? Mike
This:
- see also: Antonio Banderas (in all Spy Kids sequals)
which is improperly formatted and spelled wrong, nor does it have a reasonably logical connection to an article on Alan Cumming. You re-added it after I deleted it, and you re-added it after Goatasaur's re-removed it. Tuf-Kat
I would also like to ask why you keep re-editing the Spy Kids wiki to Spy Kids 1. It's really getting annoying. -- goatasaur
Shouldn't the movies be listed in chronological order rather than reverse chronological order? I know that IMDB does it backwards, but I don't know why we emulate it. -- Someone else 02:38 Mar 30, 2003 (UTC)
- yup. there's a Manual of Style thing about it somewhere.... and somewhere on my user page there's a link to a handy script that reverses a list automatically :-) -- Tarquin 12:15 Mar 31, 2003 (UTC)
'High Life' link
The reference to 'The High Life' leads to a page about something that has nothing to do with the sitcom Cumming was in. I guess that either there needs to be some disambiguation added to the target, which allows it to serve for both the sitcom and its current reference, or the link needs to be altered (for example, to point to IMDb's entry for the show: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108803/).
Metrosexual
What is 'metrosexual' supposed to say about Alan Cumming? Yes, I know what it means. I'm not sure that the person who put it in knows what it means, and if they do, I'm not sure why it would go in the opening sentence.
I mean, does the David Beckham entry note that he's a "metrosexual" in the opening paragraph (even though he clearly is, by any commonly accepted definition)?
---Alan Cumming is not metrosexual. Metrosexuals are straights who dress well and take care of their skin. Alan Cumming is bisexual, and has mentioned as much in numerous interviews, and on his website.
I am going to put some stuff in about his sexual relationships, cos at the moment the text reads like he just constantly shags whoever he can get hold of, which is not (entirely) true. ---Dave
- "...which is not (entirely) true." Ha ha! --DavidShankBone 17:47, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Scottish-American
I fail to see why Alan Cumming is categorised as a Scottish-American. As far as I am aware or can find out, he is not a naturalised American which makes him simply Scottish. Can anyone justify his inclusion in this category?(Nfras 05:03, 30 November 2005 (UTC))
Oh god, he's doing too much!
This is driving me mad, everywhere I turn, there's another film, or a book, or an award (damn, Alan has won an award for virtually every role he's done) a quick documentary he shot in Africa, or another play. I cannot write this article fast enough to keep up with him! I've nominated the article at the Article Creation and Improvement Drive: there isn't enough time in the day for me to write this. *wikistresses* Dev920 23:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Alan Cumming has been in a LOT of things. I see that Wiki only lists his films in the table at the end of the page. Go to his website, and you will see all of his work. Recently, he was even featured in the History Channel documentary, The Naturalized, which shows him becoming a citizen. Why not make a list of his of all his other work instead of just writing them in random. It doesn't show much of him when you do it that way. Not even his awards are mentioned. Come on, give him the credit he deserves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.136.154.72 (talk) 23:35, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
picture
There are several pictures with the article but not one as part of the info box (i.e. right up at the top). Can we find a good picture (not too much makeup, we want to be able to recognize him) that we can put there? RJFJR 23:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
The photos can be used for Nightcrawler and Cabaret as they cannot be replaced for those articles due to being fictional characters. They cannot be used for Alan Cumming as a freer picture (i.e. one of him on set or in rehearsals in costume) can be found. It doesn't matter how difficult that is, it is the fact that it could that is important here. (Quentin X 09:18, 7 April 2007 (UTC))
It doesn't matter how you feel about this, it is the fact that you make up rules by yourself. Please don't. --218.176.124.35 14:51, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've put up a free image and asked a member of WP:LGBT to get a good photo of him next time he sees him. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 15:32, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Flag Icon
I humbly think it should be the Scottish flag and not the Union Jack in his info box, as is the custom on other bios on Wikipedia for those from different home nations of the UK. Thus: , not . I cannot find a manual of style on this at present, but have noticed it to be common practice. I'm not making a nationalist statement here. Khirad 04:29, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
so....if someone is from the Republic of Texas (which used to be a country and still reserves the right to secede and threatens to secede) their flag should be the texas flag and not the U.S. flag? 75.1.48.21 (talk) 08:28, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Actually Flagicons are deprecated on biographies, they are removed as a course of clean-up. -- Banjeboi 08:31, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Just to add to the Scottish debate. I think the St.Andrews Cross (saltire) flag of Scotland would be favoured by Alan Cumming himself as he has declared his support for the pro independence Scottish National Party (SNP) for the 2011 Scottish Parliament Elections
Mental breakdown?
"In 1985, he married Hilary Lyon. However, they divorced in 1993" [Then suddenly, out of the blue --] "following his mental breakdown" -- "His mental breakdown" is mentioned nowhere else in the article. Is this vandalism or just crap editing or what? If the latter, could we please add a line or two on this elsewhere in the article. (And, you know, a cite - Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Sources .) - 201.37.229.117 (talk) 20:26, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- It may be either "crap contributing" or it could be vandalism. I am not sure either if your comment above is "crap contributing" or just rude. In the future be polite and be bold. Hyacinth (talk) 05:46, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- Actually my "crap editing", as you put it, was a result of the fact that the source I found (one of the ones I used in Early Life) failed to mention anything other than the fact that he had a mental breakdown while doing Hamlet and the strain this put on their relationship led to its breakup. My apologies that I don't have Alan immediately to hand to ask him the details. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 19:47, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Love of Almonds
It is a well known fact that Alan has an extreme love of the Almond nut. It is almost a fetish for him he loves almonds so much. I think this documented fact should be included in the article. 72.255.25.51 (talk) 21:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Reliable source for this? -- Banjeboi 02:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Alan Cumming is an intactivist? wow! not many celebs have the BALLS to stand up to the Jews and Muslims who cut off part of their kids' genitals for "god"! AMEN Alan! 75.1.48.21 (talk) 08:26, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, thanks for displaying your racism for all to see. AC was talking about routine 'medical/social' circumcision, nothing to do with race or religion... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.37.130 (talk) 09:57, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of content by unregistered user Lakina01
An unregistered user by the name of Lakina01 has taken it upon themselves to delete content on this page that although I think is well-intentioned, is affecting the entry negatively. They have deleted the fact in the lead that Cumming is Scottish, has deleted early TV work (which I would be happy to verify and source), details on a sketch troupe Cummings was active, deleted Cabaret information, and properly sourced details of WDYTYA as it regarded to his father. I reverted the edits because I honestly thought they were vandalism as they were what seemed to be destructive. Could someone with rights protect the page from unregistered users?
