In September of 2019, the bid was announced with Peru confirming to joint the bid a few days later after it was announced. As of 2023, the bid is not officially placed.

History

Proposal

The joint bid was proposed in September of 2019 by Ecuadorian president, Lenín Moreno via Twitter, announcing Ecuador's intention to host the tournament.[2]A few days later, Colombian President, Iván Duque agreed with Ecuador for the bid[3]. Martín Vizcarra of Peru was rumored to also agreed when the two met each other earlier in Leticia.[4][5] The proposal, however, would face tough competition, with already confirmed bids from neighboring Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay along with others. None of the three ever hosted a World Cup or any other large event of this size, only Colombia, has gone close to hosting the 1986 FIFA World Cup but withdrew due to economic problems. Another problem is that all countries are within the Andes, where visiting teams would face problems due to the altitude, a problem that has happened with Bolivia in the past. In November 2019, the bid was announced with the confirmation of Peru.[6]

As of 2023, coming to a closing for the World Cup bid schedule, none of the countries have had any update on their intention to bid but still remains open. None of the countries were able to make an international stage in international FIFA hosting. Colombia was supposed to host the 1986 FIFA World Cup but was withdrawn due to economic instability, a situation with most Latin American countries, especially with the Uruguay–Argentina–Chile–Paraguay bid. None of the countries ever had experiance of hosting a tournament of this size. Despite them not having experience, it is still a possibility for the bid to enter the competition, with possibly entries of Panama, Bolivia, or Venezuela.
