2006 talk from Ignatians article
[The following is from a talk page on Ignations. The Ignatians page has a redirect to here.]
Here are my thoughts on what to add:
- Improved history - original founders, notable alumni, past moderators, etc.
- Images - Higher resolution Ignatian I, gray cardigans
- Off-campus service - service info/external links
- Recruitment info(?)
--Kid moxie 22:42, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Several Ignatians have agreed that Jib-Jib epitomizes what it means to be an Ignatian so please let him stay. Jib-Jib is a good man and his story needs to be told. Thanks.
While I agree that Jib-Jib might be a nice story, please try to keep the content of Wikipedia as accurate (i.e. base on reality) as possible --157.127.124.141 16:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
USNWR Comparison to UCB etc.
Whoever added http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/compare/items+11649+1264+1312+1315+1328 saying it means Loyola Marymount outranks the other schools was in error. They were in different normalized categories. It's comparing apples and oranges, where the apples are normalized to Harvard, and the oranges are normalized to Trinity University. If anyone disagrees with this, please discuss here. 128.220.160.6 (talk) 06:05, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
New Logo, etc
I found a copy of the seal in a larger resolution and colored it in manually. Also added the stationary logo at the bottom. I want our wiki page to look good. haha It's not perfect, but it's better than before. I also added color blocks and a USA flag in the location section of the info box and the motto in English thing. Just a couple of finishing touches. :)
I just added a new version of the seal. The new version more accurately represents the official colors and is much sharper. Mishigaki (talk) 05:40, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Endowment
Just wondering where the $500 million came from. Most of what I have seen has been around $250-$270 million, unless the endowment doubled in size within six months, which would be very impressive.
71.135.126.235 06:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Where are your sources for this $250-70 number you've "seen around." Per the website the total clocks in at $380 millions. http://www.lmu.edu/Page37688.aspx Admit32
NPOV
I'm with Danny -- What are you talking about? I'm so confused! I'm surprised LMU would be ranked below UCR. 70.231.231.161 (talk) 01:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
HUH? Danny
Wealthy and beautiful? True, I suppose, in the same way that spoiled and blonde would be. I think that statement needs some quantification.
I was wondering how LMU would rank academically in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University survey (do a google search for "best universities"). San Diego State is at number 301 out of 500 world universities. Does anyone know how much lower the Loyola Marymount campus would be than UC Riverside or Santa Cruz (both # 101 of 500)? If someone really knows please reply to my query. Thanks. Vivaldi4Stagioni 08:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Layout
Just a suggestion: This page has alot of good info; however, it could be organized a bit better. Have you thought about creating a full article for the athletics section. Take a look at how the Boston College article is organized...it's really good, & I've been using it as something of a model for my work on the SCU page. SCUMATT 05:23, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Layout suggestion
I agree SCUMatt that a better layout would help streamline things. But I would suggest giving the Campus Ministries section it's own section, no? It seems to take the bulk of LMU's entry yet isn't entirely relevant for most surfers imo.
Campus Ministry
I created a new article for LMU, Campus Ministry. Does anyone have an issue with this? I do think it helps shorten LMU's very long article and gives those who want to learn more about campus ministry a convenient link.
Notable alumi edits tonight
A couple of red wikilinks showed up tonight. The most suspicious is one annotated with The Fro Doob which only shows up in Wikipedia entries on this name and mirrors of Wikipedia. The name appears to belong to a law firm but the The Fro Doob sets the hackles off. The other entry for Tom Leach should also be confirmed.
On other articles I follow for other projects, red wikilinks are not allowed unless the link is really well known. These two are obscure to me and could be self or complimentary edits. Ronbo76 06:08, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
St. Ignatius Loyola
Well, it turns out that ST. Ignatius Loyola founded this wonderful, outstanding business university. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.82.33.97 (talk) 23:49, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Broken Link
The link in the page summary up top that should link to the page of the 5 Marymount (collegiate) institutions (if such a page exists) instead links to the page of a college prep school in New York. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raliugar (talk • contribs) 01:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Loyolanlogo.jpg
Image:Loyolanlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Student-related information polluting this article, specifically the Greek section
It looks like some administrator at LMU has taken it upon themselves to remind the world of LMU's Greek Life policies. This does not belong in the Wikipedia article.
Example:
There are non-registered and un-recognized groups that exist on campus and are NOT affiliated with LMU or any of its departments. Any group that claims it is a part of LMU has no validity unless registered through Student Leadership & Development. More information can be found at www.lmu.edu/greeklife
Cite your policies all you want, but no matter how hard you try you cant deny the existence of other Greek organizations at your university. Stating otherwise is outright lying, and the truth needs to be told. —Preceding unsigned comment added by M07tex09 (talk • contribs) 02:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Misrepresentation of Facts
In regards to the Campus Greek life section, LMU outright misrepresents facts about the presence of other Greek organizations on campus. Though they may not be recognized, these organizations still contribute in a big way to campus life. Any misrepresentation by LMU should be condemned, as people searching Wikipedia should gain a thorough understanding of the school community. I consider this a major violation of trust of a major university. M07tex09 (talk) 02:14, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Let's be very clear here. First, Loyola Marymount University does not edit this article; Wikipedians do. Second, Wikipedia is not a forum or a complaint department for potentially libelous statements that are contradict the neutral point of view. It sounds like you have a bias towards this university and should not edit it or take out your bias on it. ----moreno oso (talk) 02:33, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Point well taken—however, editors could also be at the college. The college leaders may, or may not, know about concerns. 68.123.157.117 (talk) 00:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Adding Section About Univeristy Library to Academics
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The claims were not referenced. |
Obviously, I have a COI when it comes to this page. So may I humbly suggest that the following (or something near abouts with external citations) be added to the "Academics" section by someone without COI.
William H. Hannon Library
The William H. Hannon Library opened in 2010 and is the main library at the Westchester campus, serving the research needs of the LMU students, faculty, and staff. As of 2018, its collections included 582,406 print monographs, 686,285 e-books, 105,877 bound periodicals, 53,941 e-periodicals, 337 databases, and 5,544 linear feet of archives and manuscripts[1]. The 120,000 square-foot building is LEED Gold certified and contains 580 individual reading stations, 33 group-study rooms accommodating, various collaborative study spaces, two library instruction classrooms, the Terrence L. Mahan, S.J. Gallery, the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation Information Commons, a Faculty Innovation Center, the Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation Faculty Lounge, and the Von der Ahe Family Suite[2]. The library is staffed by 26 professional librarians and approximately 25 library staff. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.242.198.48 (talk) 16:05, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
Beyond its general collections, the library's special collections holdings emphasize English literature of the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries, as well as other areas such as Jesuit history, which includes some of the earliest histories of California, and book collections of Californio families such as the del Valles. Manuscript holdings are especially strong in documenting the history of the Los Angeles’ urban development, with the Fritz Burns and Daniel Freeman papers; of important Roman Catholic families in Los Angeles, such as the Workmans and Dockweilers; and of the entertainment industry of Los Angeles, including, for example, the papers of Hollywood producers Arthur P. Jacobs and Samuel Z. Arkoff.[3]

- Your edit request could not be reviewed because the claims made therein are not referenced. When proposing edit requests it is important to highlight in the text, through the use of ref tags and references, which specific sources are doing the referencing for each claim. The point of these references is to allow the reviewer and readers to check that the material is sourced; that point will be lost if the references are not clearly placed. In the collapsed section below titled Request edit examples, I have illustrated two: The first shows how the edit request was submitted; the second shows how requests should be submitted in the future.
Request edit examples

In the example above there are no references provided for the stated claims. Your edit request similarly does not provide references for the claims you are proposing. The links between material and their source references must be clearly made, as shown in the next example below:
In the example above the links between the provided references and their claim statements are perfectly clear. |
Kindly reformulate your edit request so that it aligns more with the second example above, and feel free to re-submit that edit request at your earliest convenience. Regards, Spintendo 20:00, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Also, we need sources independent of the University. We cannot rely on what the library puts out on its website for information about same. Further, much of this content violates WP:UNDUE and WP:PEACOCK. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:07, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- We don't necessarily need independent sources for information that is not controversial. And most of these claims don't appear to be controversial. (Whether they merit inclusion at all is a different discussion.) ElKevbo (talk) 20:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- But the problem here is that we have librarians using Wikipedia as a promotional mechanism. I've encountered the same behavior at other collegiate libraries. I've always drawn the line at independent sourcing so we let media coverage limit the amount of dreck we publish here. Otherwise, Wikipedia will favor corporate interests' self-publishing (like schools) and punish private interests' (like hobbyists). Chris Troutman (talk) 20:28, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- I understand the concern but the general principle of "we cannot use self-published sources at all" is one that the broader Wikipedia community has rejected. In this specific instance, we might not want to include all of the information that has been proposed but surely it's appropriate and useful to include a paragraph about the library and its collections in an article about a university.
- What specific material in the proposed addition do you find objectionable? ElKevbo (talk) 20:36, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Added citations. It's worth noting that institutional data on LMU's wesbite is already cited in other parts of this article. Universities are required to publish this data on their websites and, if falsified, can be in jeopardy of losing their accreditation. I agree with Elkevbo that not all of this info might be necessary per WP:UNDUE but I thought I would err on the side of too much rather than too little. Again, my apologies for not doing this right: I'm (obviously) still a pretty inexperienced editor. Johnxlibris (talk) 20:21, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

LMU location
The University is formally located in Westchester, CA, not "near Playa del Rey". Yes, it's close, for sure, but we can be more specific. Janicelp```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Janicelp (talk • contribs) 21:35, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
